Хотя и недавно писал тебе, но и на письмо твое от 15 апреля отвечаю, видя из письма твоего, что ты нездоров. Милосердый Господь да дарует тебе терпение, которое является в душе тогда, когда мы отдаем себя воле Божией и благодарим Бога за скорбь, посланную во очищение грехов наших. Прекрасно сказал святой мученик Тивуртий о земной жизни (Четьи-Минеи, 22 ноября): «Мнится быти и несть». Точно! она будто и пред глазами и в руках, а все ускользает. О будущей жизни Тивуртий сказал: «Мнится не быти, и есть». Точно, когда здесь живем, то представляется, что и всегда здесь останемся жить; будущая жизнь представляется несуществующею. Но нет! не видать, как наступит, и наступит непременно. Блаженны те, которых Бог приготовляет к вечности болезнями и другими скорбями, которые из среды скорбей своих исповедаются Богу. Достойное по делом нашим приемлем! Помяни нас, Господи, во Царствии Твоем!
У меня болят руки и ноги, особливо очень болит правая нога; очень болит голова, но главная боль в левом боку, по всей нижней части груди и ребер, даже с левого плеча, паче же около сердца. В этом месте по временам чувствую боль, как бы от язвы копием, отчего прихожу в крайнее изнеможение и чувствую себя как бы умирающим Спаси Господи за извещение о кончине Шереметева Господь посетил его тяжкою болезнию. Полезно слышать о смерти знакомых, такими известиями своя смерть напоминается.
Как внезапно, без особенной видимой причины, самые свежие кровь и плоть зачинают в себе и из себя зародыш смерти! Этот зародыш начинает развиваться и вдруг разовьется в неизлечимую болезнь, которая укладывает человека во гроб.

Blessed are those whom God prepares for eternity with sickness and other sorrows, who confess to God from among their sorrows. What is worthy in our work is acceptable! Remember us, Lord, in Your Kingdom!
My arms and legs hurt, especially my right leg hurts; the head hurts very much, but the main pain is in the left side, along the entire lower part of the chest and ribs, even from the left shoulder, especially near the heart.
