The Three Bears

The Three Bears (Три медве́дя) is a Russian folk tale. This is our own short retelling for the course «Аэро́бика ру́сского языка́»; the Russian lesson page with the sounds, the actions and the grammar is The Three Bears/Russian.

Here is a forest. In the forest there is a house. In the house there are three bears.

The big bear is Richard. The middle bear is Natasha. The little bear is Scuffles.

On the table there are three cups. There is porridge in them. – The big cup is mine! – The middle one is mine! – The little one is mine!

Three chairs: a big chair, a middle chair, a little chair. – Mine! – Mine! – Mine!

Three beds: a big one, a middle one, a little one. – Mine! – Mine! – Mine!

The bears go off to the forest. Nobody is in the house.

Who's there? – Slinky! Slinky goes into the house.

The big porridge – no! The middle one – no! The little porridge – yes! Yum, yum! No more porridge!

The big chair – no! The middle one – no! The little chair – yes! Slinky is on the chair. Bang! No more chair!

The big bed – no! The middle one – no! The little bed – yes! Slinky is on the bed. Slinky is asleep.

The bears come into the house. – Who ate my porridge? – Who ate my porridge? – Who ate my porridge?! No more porridge!

– Who sat on my chair? – Who sat on my chair? – Who sat on my chair?! No more chair!

– Who slept in my bed? – Who slept in my bed? – Who slept in my bed?! There she is! Slinky!

Slinky – out of the window! Slinky – off to the forest. – Oh! Where is Slinky? – In the forest.

– My porridge! My chair! My bed! My window! – Oh, Scuffles.

In the folk tale the bears are Mikhail Ivanovich, Nastasya Petrovna and little Mishutka, and the girl is Masha; the big bear asks «Who was eating from my cup?», «Who sat on my chair?», «Who lay on my bed?». Our lines are shorter so that a beginner can read them on День 29 – and the word «my» changes its shape three times in Russian: мой, моя́, моё.
