Write Russian
Learn to write the letters by hand – one lesson at a time
👀👂 Смотри́те · Watch Natasha read handwriting
Natasha reads the handwritten letters of a Russian copybook.
❓ Заче́м писа́ть от руки́? · Why write by hand?
- Russians write in cursive. Children learn joined-up handwriting at school, and notes, cards and forms are written that way.
- You need to read it too. Handwritten letters often look different from printed ones.
- It helps you remember. Writing a word by hand helps you remember how it looks and how it is spelt.
👀 Осторо́жно! · Careful – these look like English letters
т looks like m
и looks like u
д looks like g
п looks like n
✍️ Как мы у́чимся писа́ть · How the course teaches writing
- In the lesson (День) you meet the new letters in «Бу́квы дня» and read the day's words.
- On the writing page (День – Пи́шем) you watch each letter being written, listen to Natasha, and then write it.
- Print the sheets. Trace the grey letters, then write on your own. Every letter has its sheet, and the last sheet has the words of the lesson – the letters are joined, as Russians write.
- Go back to the lesson and read the words again.
