Say every word aloud and show it – the gesture is under the picture. The movement falls on the loud syllable: ТРА́К-тор – you drive on ТРАК; мо-ТО́Р – you turn the key on ТОР; МА́-стер – fists up on МА.

- ДИЕ́ТА (diet), В (into) and НЕ have letters you don't know yet. Today they are picture words, like ТУТ yesterday.
- Two new letters. They look English. They are not!
- Р is never p. It says r – a rolled r: р-р-р! 🐯 РОТ is not pot – it is rot (mouth).
- С is never k. It is always s, as in sun. СОК = sok, СТАРТ = start.
- Small letters look the same, only smaller: р с.
- Now you know eight letters: А К М О Т Е Р С. Read today's words: РОТ, ТОРТ, СОК, КРЕМ, СТАРТ, ТРА́КТОР, МОТО́Р, МА́СТЕР – all of them! 🎉

Now read it! 📖 You know the letters of almost every word here – not yet the names, «рычи́т» and «все». 🌱 The seed of the day: «Кот рычи́т» – The cat growls or the cat is growling. One word, «рычи́т», does both – no is, no -ing. (Scuffles read Р as English P – you never will.)

- Put a biscuit or a glass of juice on the table, a little far away. Point at your mouth: Тут рот. Point at the food: Там сок. Hand to your mouth: Сок – в рот?! Shake your head: Р-р-р! 😄
- Say Старт! and run on the spot like Slinky. 🚀
- Be the teacher: say рот, торт, сок, крем, старт, тра́ктор, мото́р, ма́стер – a friend (or your cat) does the action. No friend? Do it yourself.

On День 1 you rolled Р inside words. Today Р has its own letter – find it in three places:
- At the start: growl first, then open into the word: р-р-р… рот!
- In the middle: тор-р-рт, стар-р-рт, тр-р-ра́ктор.
- At the end – English speakers swallow it there (mas-tuh), Russians never do: мото́р-р, ма́стер-р, теа́тр-р.
- 30 seconds, every day. The tongue is a muscle – this is aerobics. 🐯
Tomorrow morning put a biscuit on the table 🍪. Point at your mouth: «Тут рот», point at the biscuit: «там торт». Hand to your mouth: «Торт – в рот?!» Shake your head and growl: «Р-р-р!» Then wave your arm: «Старт!» – and walk away from the biscuit. 😄
That is the first minute of День 4. You already know it – so День 4 starts with a win.

- Word → gesture. Say a word – your friend (or your cat) shows the gesture. No friend? Say it, then show it yourself.
- Yesterday comes back. Mix in four words from День 2: кто ✊ · там 🔭 · ма́ма 👶 · кака́о ☕. Careful – РОТ and ТУТ: the mouth is on your face, «тут» is the table next to you!

The cat listens – and goes on eating. Said about someone who hears you scold them and carries on just the same. The English say: In one ear and out the other.
Natasha is on a diet, and the cats too. Slinky listens. Scuffles growls «Р-р-р!» with Natasha all lesson long – no cake, no cream! – and at the end she is eating the cream. 😼 Natasha says the proverb at the end of the video. It rhymes: слу́шает – ку́шает. - Р = r-r-r, never p: торт, рот. РОТ is not pot!
- С = s, never k: сок, старт.
- «Кот рычи́т» = The cat growls / is growling. One word – no is, no -ing.
- В, НЕ, ДИЕ́ТА – picture words for now: you know them before their letters.

ударе́ние – stress – shows the syllable you say louder and longer, just like in English: LUN-dun (London), TEL-ih-fohn (telephone).
ЛО́НДОН – the stress is on the first syllable, as in English. But Russians say a real, round о: LON-d’n, not LUN-dun. The second о comes after the stress, so it is short and weak (like the a in sofa).
ТЕЛЕФО́Н – not like the English TEL-ih-fohn: the stress is on the last syllable: ti-li-FON (е without stress sounds like a short и). That is why we mark the stress.
🎯 Why does о sound like а?
СОК sounds almost like English sock. Picture a sock full of orange juice! 🧦🧃
Tourists in Russia read РЕСТОРА́Н as "pectopah". It is restaurant. You will read it right after День 4. 😄
🔬 Почему́ так · Why this way
- A win in the first minute – yesterday's homework. Remembering yesterday's words without looking is one of the best-proven tools – 50 classroom experiments: Agarwal · Nunes · Blunt 2021.
- 15 minutes a day, not one long lesson. Short daily sessions beat one long one: 35 min × 6 days scored 83 vs 70 for one 3.5-hour lesson. Study with adults – Stoltzfus · Sukseemuang 2018; gaps of 1–4 days work best – Rogers · Nakata · Chiu 2025.
- Р and С get a day of their own. They look English but sound different. English speakers learning Russian kept misreading exactly these letters, and a warning did not fix it – only a lot of reading practice did. Study with adults – Showalter 2020. So today the cat makes exactly that mistake – and you read many words with Р and С.
- Watch the mouth. Seeing the teacher's mouth helps you say a new sound better than listening alone. That is why Р has a mouth clip. Study with adults – Hazan et al. 2004.
- Say it and show it. A word said with a matching gesture, made by the learner, stays in memory far longer than a word only heard. Study with adults – Macedonia · Knösche 2011 (Max Planck Institute, Leipzig).
- The action on the loud syllable. A hand beat on the stressed syllable helps adults pronounce new words. Studies with adults – Prieto's group, Barcelona.
- Words come back. метро́ and теа́тр (День 1), кот, кто, ма́ма, кака́о (День 2) are in today's reading rows. A word met four times over several days is remembered far better than four times in a row (84 % vs 63 %, Wegener et al. 2023).
- The proverb: heard in the story, explained in Part 2. Natasha says it once at the end of the video, where the story shows it; its explanation sits in Part 2, outside the core lesson – extras inside the core lower learning of the main thing (Mayer, seductive details). Heard today, read on День 10 – an idiom learned with its picture and story is remembered better than with a bare translation (Boers 2001).
- The cat makes the mistakes. Nobody corrects the student. The student laughs, growls and is never the one who is wrong.
