To do this, we put wooden sleepers soaked in a special resin onto the ground. Then we fix the iron rails on which the wheels of the locomotive will run. I think now you understand where the word "railway" comes from. - Yes! - Now we'll start building the locomotive! The structure that forms the backbone of any locomotive is a frame. This rides on an assembly of four, six or eight wheels which is known as a bogie. - A bogie! - We set the crew compartment and the boiler at the top of the frame. There is a firebox in the boiler where coal or wood is burned, causing the water in the boiler to boil and produce steam. The hot steam expands and flows into the cylinder where it drives the pistons, which in turn moves a special metal arm called the crank together with the large driver wheels. There's a chimney on top of the boiler to carry the smoke away from the firebox. The locomotive also needs a whistle to signal, and a headlight to light up the road in the dark. Buffers are attached to the front and back of the frame as well. They have springs that help to ease the impact if the locomotive is facing some obstacle or when the wagons being hauled bump up against. - There is a special wagon right behind the locomotive called a tender. - Does it have coal? - Yes, the tender carries a supply of coal and water. - Oh, a nail! - This is a coupler. Let's attach one more wagon to the locomotive so that it can carry useful goods. - Wow! Everything's ready! - Hurray! We've built a locomotive! - Yes, we've built a steam locomotive! - Let's go! Choo-Choo, Woo-Woo... Another child's voice: - Choo-Choo, Woo-Woo... Child's voice: - Wow! How many different devices! Another child's voice: - Oh no! A tree's fallen on the railway track! How can the locomotive run?! - There's a special device at the front of the locomotive called a pilot. Look how it helps the locomotive to clear the path. |Конструктор! - Ребята, сегодня мы соберём из конструктора паровоз! - Ура! Паровозик! - Чтобы наш паровоз мог ездить, построим для него вначале железнодорожный путь. Для этого на землю положим деревянные, пропитанные специальной смолой, шпалы. На них закрепим железные рельсы, по которым будут катиться колёса паровоза. Думаю, теперь вам понятно, откуда взялось название "железная дорога"? - Да! - А теперь построим паровоз! Основа любого паровоза - это рама, или ещё её называют экипаж. - Экипаж. На раме устанавливается будка для машиниста и котёл. Внутри котла находится топка, где горят уголь или дрова. От их тепла в котле закипает вода и образуется пар. Разогретый пар расширяется и поступает в блок цилиндров. Там он толкает поршень, который, в свою очередь, приводит в движение специальные металлические рычаги - дышла, а вместе с ними - большие, движущие колёса. Наверху котла располагается дымовая труба. Через неё дым из топки выходит наружу. Ещё паровозу нужен свисток - для того, чтобы сигналить, и фонарь – чтобы в темноте освещать дорогу. Также на раму спереди и сзади крепится по два буфера. В них есть пружины, которые помогают смягчать удар, если паровоз сталкивается с каким-нибудь препятствием на пути или когда на него наталкиваются вагоны. - Сразу за паровозом следует особый вагон - тендер. - Он что, с углём? - Да, тендер везёт запас угля и воды. - О, гвоздик! - Это сцепное устройство. А теперь давайте прицепим к паровозу ещё один вагон, чтобы он мог возить полезные грузы. - Ух ты! Всё готово! - Ура! Мы собрали паровоз! - Да, мы собрали ПАРОВОЗ. - Поехали! Чух-чух, ту-ту... - Чух-чух, ту-ту... - О, сколько разных приборов! - Ой, на железную дорогу упало дерево. Как же паровоз поедет? - У паровоза впереди есть специальная решётка - путеочиститель. Смотрите, как он помогает паровозу освобождать путь. - Ну что, хороший у нас получился паровоз? - Да!, очень! - Пока, паровозик!
