ошиба́ться, смея́ться, учи́ться – all with -ся. After a vowel it is -сь, after a consonant -ся:

🌱 The seed of the day: why the cat makes the mistakes. Fear stops learning: Natasha has seen many students who were afraid of mistakes. When the cat is wrong, the student corrects the cat – and laughs. The student is never the one who is wrong.

ОШИБА́ТЬСЯ sounds «а-шы-ба́-цца».
- Ш is always hard – after it, И sounds like «ы»: оши́бка «ашы́пка», маши́на «машы́на».
- О before the stress sounds «а»: «ашыба́цца». Б before К sounds «п»: оши́бка «ашы́пка».

- Ко́шка ошиба́ется. One person is the cat 🐈 and says a sentence with one mistake: «Я живу́ в Ло́ндон!» The others say «Мя́у!» and put it right: «В Ло́ндоне!» Then the next one is the cat.
- Пра́вильно – непра́вильно. One says a sentence – the others show 👍 «Пра́вильно!» or 🤦 «Оши́бка!» – and laugh together.
- Смех. Laugh the Russian way: «Ха-ха!» «Хи-хи!» «Хо-хо!» – and say who laughs: «Он смеётся. Она́ смеётся. Мы смеёмся!» 😂
Remembering a word with the whole body works better than reading it again.
We learn from our mistakes.
«у́чатся» – people learn: the они́-form without они́. A mistake is the start of a lesson, not the end. 🤸 Gesture: hand to your forehead 🤦 – then thumbs up 👍.

- ошиба́ться, смея́ться, учи́ться – -ся verbs: after a vowel -сь (ошиба́юсь), after a consonant -ся (ошиба́ется).
- смея́ться над + instrumental – laugh at · смея́ться вме́сте – laugh together.
- На оши́бках у́чатся – они́-form, no они́ = people in general.
ударе́ние – stress – shows the syllable you say louder and longer, just like in English: LUN-dun (London), TEL-ih-fohn (telephone).
ЛО́НДОН – the stress is on the first syllable, as in English. But Russians say a real, round о: LON-d’n, not LUN-dun. The second о comes after the stress, so it is short and weak (like the a in sofa).
ТЕЛЕФО́Н – not like the English TEL-ih-fohn: the stress is on the last syllable: ti-li-FON (е without stress sounds like a short и). That is why we mark the stress.
🎯 Why does о sound like а?
English «to make a mistake» is one Russian verb: ошиба́ться. And «To err is human» – «Челове́ку сво́йственно ошиба́ться». Scuffles adds: «…а ко́шке – ещё бо́льше!» – and a cat even more! 😹

- Humour is a «safe house». Laughing together lowers tension and makes students try – Pomerantz · Bell 2011. Enjoyment and anxiety are two different things, and the teacher can move both – Dewaele · MacIntyre 2014.
- Natasha's eighth rule: the cat makes the mistakes – the student corrects the cat and is never the one who is wrong (День 7: all eight rules).
- A mistake noticed is remembered. When a learner sees the difference between the wrong and the right form, the right form stays – Schmidt 1990, the noticing hypothesis.
