«Мне помога́ют же́сты.» 👐 · «Мне помога́ет ко́шка.» 😾 · «Мне помога́ют посло́вицы.» 🦉
Вы э́то уже́ уме́ете – э́то ва́ша пе́рвая побе́да сего́дня. ✅ · You can already do it – your first win today.
- Не чита́йте пока́ – слу́шайте и счита́йте на па́льцах. · Don’t read yet – listen and count on your fingers. Which rule does Scuffles write? 🤔
- пра́вило – count on your fingers ☝️✌️ · страх – hands over your face 😱 · ра́дость – arms up, a big smile 🙌 · никто́ – shake your head, palms out 🙅.
Скажи́те ка́ждое сло́во вслух и покажи́те его́. · Say every word aloud and show it. Tap a word or its picture – the dictionary opens.
Страх меша́ет, ра́дость помога́ет. · Fear gets in the way, joy helps. 😱 ➜ 😄
👂 Снача́ла слу́шайте. · Listen first. 🙅 on every «никто́».
– 30 seconds
никто́ не… – nobody: «Никто́ не ошиба́ется.» · ничего́ не… – nothing: «Я ничего́ не зна́ю.» – Russian needs both words!
помога́ть + dative: «Мне помога́ет ко́шка.» «Вам помога́ют же́сты?» «Учи́тель помога́ет ученику́.»
One thing helps → помога́ет · many things help → помога́ют.
🌱 The seed of the day: Natasha's eight painless rules. She has seen many students who were afraid. So every lesson is built against fear: a win in the first minute, the same parts every day, nobody forced, guess-then-tap, one new thing, body first, grammar later – and the cat makes the mistakes. All eight are in Part 2.
Скажи́те ка́ждую строку́ вслух – и покажи́те. · Say every line aloud – and show it.
Никто́ не обя́зан говори́ть. 🙅
Все ошиба́ются – и э́то хорошо́. 🤦👍
Мне помога́ют же́сты. 👐
Снача́ла ра́дость – пото́м грамма́тика! 😄
- Which two rules help you most? «Мне помога́ет пра́вило … и пра́вило …»
- Count the eight rules on your fingers – in Russian: «Оди́н – побе́да! Два – пять часте́й!…»
- Говори́ть – не обяза́тельно. · Speaking is optional – listening and doing count too.
Мо́жете без ви́део? · Can you do it without the video? – Молоде́ц! ✔
Угада́йте – пото́м нажми́те. · Guess, then tap. A wrong tap is not a mistake – it is a guess. 😊
Хорошо́! Молоде́ц! · Two small things left – two minutes.
ПРА́ВИЛО · СТРАХ · РА́ДОСТЬ · ГРАММА́ТИКА – the Russian Р is rolled.
- The tip of your tongue taps just behind your top teeth – like a little motor: тр-тр-тр 🏍️.
- Start with «тр» and «др»: трава́, друг – then alone: рад, Россия.
- Clap on the loud syllable: ПРА́-ви-ло 👏 · РА́-дость 👏 · страх 👏. 30 секу́нд ка́ждый день. · 30 seconds every day.
За́втра вспо́мните одну́ строку́ из ка́ждого дня – День 1–7 – и посчита́йте на па́льцах. · Tomorrow remember one line from each day, День 1–7 – and count them on your fingers:
«Вста́ньте!» ☝️ · «Слу́шайте!» ✌️ · «Пятна́дцать мину́т!» · «На оши́бках у́чатся!» · «Ударе́ние – руко́й!» · «Ти́ше е́дешь…» · «Никто́ не обя́зан говори́ть!» – семь!
Э́то пе́рвая мину́та Дня 8 – дня повторе́ния. · That is the first minute of День 8 – the review day.
Мо́жно зако́нчить здесь – до за́втра! · You may stop here – see you tomorrow: День 8 · Что помогло́? ▶
★ Во́семь пра́вил без бо́ли · The eight painless rules – Natasha's rules from her own teaching, checked against research. Every lesson follows all eight.
| пра́вило · rule | where you met it | |
|---|---|---|
| 1 🏆 | Побе́да в пе́рвую мину́ту A win in the first minute |
the warm-up = yesterday’s homework – every day |
| 2 🖐️ | Всегда́ те же пять часте́й The same five parts every time |
listen → do → tap → your turn → the text, folded |
| 3 🙅 | Никто́ не обя́зан говори́ть Nobody is forced to speak |
«Ва́ша о́чередь» is optional – listening counts (День 2) |
| 4 🤔 | Угада́йте – пото́м нажми́те Guess, then tap – never a «test» |
every quiz: a wrong tap is a guess, no marks |
| 5 ☝️ | Одно́ но́вое в уро́к One new thing per lesson |
★ one rule in 30 seconds |
| 6 🤸 | Снача́ла те́ло, пото́м голова́ The body does the grammar first |
gestures on the stress (День 5), things put in and on things (Курс 3), the ring on the fingers |
| 7 ⏳ | Грамма́тика – пото́м Grammar words only at the rule moment |
«прича́стие» only after «чита́ющий кот» (Курс 4 · День 2) |
| 8 😾 | Ко́шка ошиба́ется The cat makes the mistakes |
Scuffles – every day (День 4) |
- Во́семь па́льцев. Count the rules on your fingers and say each in three words: «Оди́н – побе́да!» «Два – пять часте́й!» … «Во́семь – ко́шка!» 😾
- Страх и́ли ра́дость? One names a lesson moment – the others show 😱 or 😄: «Контро́льная!» 😱 · «Ска́зка!» 😄 · «Ко́шка ошиба́ется!» 😄 · «Учи́тель поправля́ет при всех!» 😱
- Никто́ не… Ask and answer: «Кто никогда́ не ошиба́ется?» – «Никто́!» 🙅 «Что ты не зна́ешь?» – «Я ничего́ не зна́ю!» 😄
Remembering a word with the whole body works better than reading it again.
It is no shame not to know – it is a shame not to learn.
Rules 3 and 4 in one sentence: not knowing is normal, guessing is welcome. 🤸 Gesture: a shrug 🤷 on the first half – then open a book 📖 on the second.
- Keep the eight rules where you plan – check every lesson against them before you teach it. · Проверя́йте ка́ждый уро́к по восьми́ пра́вилам.
- Fear is the enemy – no marks, no red crosses, no student corrected in front of the others.
- Joy first: a song, a joke, the cat – then the rule.
- 🌍 На ва́шем языке́: translate the eight rules – one short line each. That is the first page of your teacher's notebook.
Прочита́йте ка́ждую строку́ вслух, ме́дленно. · Read every line aloud, slowly. Tap a word to check. ✋
✋ Today's words: ПРА́ВИЛО · СТРАХ · РА́ДОСТЬ · НИКТО́
У Ната́ши во́семь пра́вил.
Никто́ не обя́зан говори́ть.
Все ошиба́ются – но ошиба́ется ко́шка.
Страх меша́ет, ра́дость помога́ет.
А вам что помога́ет? 😄
страх – fear · стра́шно – it's scary · стра́шный – frightening
ра́дость – joy · ра́достный – joyful (Курс 3) · ра́доваться – to be glad
Just look and smile – you don't have to learn these now. 😊
Scuffles, what are you writing? – The rules of my school! Rule one: «Nobody makes mistakes!» – said without «не» (Scuffles's mistake). – In Russian: «Никто́ не ошиба́ется.» Никто́ always goes with «не». – But that's not true, Scuffles! Everybody makes mistakes. You too! – All right. Rule one: «The cat makes the mistakes – and the students laugh!» – Now that's a rule! It's our rule number eight. – Miaow!
- никто́ не… – nobody · ничего́ не… – nothing: Russian needs both words.
- помога́ть + dative: мне, вам, ученику́.
- One thing → помога́ет · many → помога́ют.
- ★ The eight rules – in Part 2.
ЛО́НДОН – the stress is on the first syllable, as in English. But Russians say a real, round о: LON-d’n, not LUN-dun. The second о comes after the stress, so it is short and weak (like the a in sofa).
ТЕЛЕФО́Н – not like the English TEL-ih-fohn: the stress is on the last syllable: ti-li-FON (е without stress sounds like a short и). That is why we mark the stress.
🎯 Why does о sound like а?
English: «Nobody knows» – one negative. Russian: «Никто́ не зна́ет» – two. And «I don't know nothing» is bad English – but «Я ничего́ не зна́ю» is perfect Russian! 😄
🔬 Почему́ так · Why this way
- Fear costs learning. More anxiety in language lessons goes with lower results: Botes · Dewaele · Greiff 2020. Joy and fear are two different things – the teacher can move both: Dewaele · MacIntyre 2014.
- Guessing first helps. Trying an answer before you know it – even wrongly – makes the right answer stay: Kornell · Hays · Bjork 2009, the pretesting effect.
- One new thing. Working memory holds only about four new things at once: Cowan 2001.
- Nobody forced to speak. A time of only listening is normal: Krashen 1982. And a win in the first minute is retrieval practice: Agarwal · Nunes · Blunt 2021.
