День 13 из 40: Лети́т? Плывёт?
📚 Слова́ дня · Words of the day: 5 – лете́ть, лета́ть, плыть, пла́вать, самолёт. (Old friends: пти́ца, ры́ба.)
🗣️ Глаго́лы дня · Verbs of the day: лете́ть ➡️ / лета́ть 🔄 · плыть ➡️ / пла́вать 🔄 – in the air and in the water
⏱ Part 1 = 15 minutes – everybody finishes it. Part 2 = more, only if you want. · 🗺️ All days
Your homework from День 12: run a few steps and say:
«Я бегу́! ➡️ Ка́ждое у́тро я бе́гаю.» 🔄 – or «Я не бе́гаю – я хожу́!» 😄
You remembered it – that is your first win today. ✅
- Tap and listen. Arms out like wings – «лети́т!» Hands together like a fish – «плывёт!»
- Two more pairs. Natasha's question is the same: ➡️ one way, now – or 🔄 often, round and round?
Say every word aloud and show it – the gesture is under the picture. Tap a word or its picture – the dictionary opens.
🕊️ In the air:
🐟 In the water:
👂 Listen first. Wings or fins – and ➡️ or 🔄?
- Ната́ша: Ры́бки пла́вают в аква́риуме. 🔄🐟 Смотри́! Ры́бка плывёт к еде́! ➡️
- Ри́чард: Пти́ца лети́т! ➡️🕊️ И самолёт лети́т в Москву́. ✈️ 📒
- Ната́ша: Пти́цы лета́ют, ры́бы пла́вают. 🔄
Ска́ффлз: (on top of the tank, nose to the glass) Ры́бки летя́т!
- Ната́ша: Нет, Ска́ффлз! Ры́бки не лета́ют. Ры́бки пла́вают!
Ска́ффлз: (paws out like wings, she jumps off the sofa) А я лечу́! … (on the floor) Я лежу́. 😹 –
Сли́нки: (watching the fish, very still) Мя́у.
🌱 The seed of the day: «Пти́цы лета́ют, ры́бы пла́вают» – this is what they can do, always: 🔄. «Пти́ца лети́т» – this bird, now, that way: ➡️. And: я лечу́ – т → ч only for «я» (like хожу́).
Say every line aloud: arms like wings, hands like a fish.
Пти́ца лети́т. ➡️ Пти́цы лета́ют. 🔄
Ры́бка плывёт. ➡️ Ры́бки пла́вают. 🔄
Самолёт лети́т в Москву́. ✈️
Я лечу́! … Я лежу́. 😹
- Be a bird: «Я лечу́!» ➡️ Be a fish: «Я плыву́!» ➡️
- Can you swim? «Я пла́ваю.» 🔄 – or «Я не пла́ваю.»
- Look out of the window: what flies? «Пти́ца лети́т.» «Самолёт лети́т.»
- Speaking is optional – listening and doing count too.
Can you say it without looking? – Молоде́ц! Go to the tap quiz.
Guess, then tap. Air or water? ➡️ or 🔄? 😊
Хорошо́! Молоде́ц! Two small things left – two minutes.
лете́ть – soft Л: the tip of the tongue behind the top teeth, the tongue flat and high, a smile. 😊 пла́вать – hard Л: the tongue low at the back, like a deep English l in ball. 🏐
- Say: ле – ла · ли – лы · then лете́ть – пла́вать.
- The letter after Л decides: Е, И, Я, Ё, Ю, Ь → soft · А, О, У, Ы → hard.
- 30 seconds, every day. This is aerobics for the tongue.
Tomorrow morning, look out of the window (or at a picture) and say what flies or swims:
«Пти́ца лети́т. ➡️ Пти́цы лета́ют. 🔄» – and about you: «Я пла́ваю.» or «Я не пла́ваю.»
That is the first minute of День 14. You already know it – so День 14 starts with a win.
- Bird or fish? One person says «Пти́ца!» – everybody flaps and says «лечу́!». «Ры́ба!» – everybody swims and says «плыву́!». Faster and faster. 🕊️🐟
- ➡️ or 🔄? Fly across the room in a line – «лечу́!». Fly in circles – «лета́ю!».
- Who can do what? «Пти́цы лета́ют. Ры́бы пла́вают. Ко́шки…?» – «Ко́шки не лета́ют!» 😹
A fish looks for deeper water, and a person for a better place.
Everybody looks for the best place for themselves. 🐟 🤸 Gesture: hands like a fish going down deep… then shade your eyes with your hand and look far away.
Read every line aloud, slowly. Every word is one you know. Tap a word to check. ✋
плыть, пла́вать · плове́ц – a swimmer 🏊
Just look and smile – you don't have to learn these now. 😊
Ры́бки пла́вают в аква́риуме. Смотри́! Ры́бка плывёт к еде́! – Пти́ца лети́т! И самолёт лети́т в Москву́. – Пти́цы лета́ют, ры́бы пла́вают. – Ры́бки летя́т! – Нет, Ска́ффлз! Ры́бки не лета́ют. Ры́бки пла́вают! – А я лечу́! … Я лежу́. – Мя́у.
The fish are swimming in the tank. Look! A fish is swimming to the food! – A bird is flying! And a plane is flying to Moscow. – Birds fly, fish swim. – The fish are flying! (Scuffles's mistake) – No, Scuffles! Fish don't fly. Fish swim! – And I'm flying! … I'm lying down. – Miaow.
- лете́ть ➡️ / лета́ть 🔄 – in the air · плыть ➡️ / пла́вать 🔄 – in the water (also boats: «Кора́бль плывёт»)
- лете́ть: я лечу́, ты лети́шь, он лети́т… они́ летя́т (т → ч for «я») · лета́ть: я лета́ю…
- плыть: я плыву́, ты плывёшь, он плывёт… · пла́вать: я пла́ваю…
- «Пти́цы лета́ют», «Я пла́ваю» – what you can do = 🔄
ЛО́НДОН – the stress is on the first syllable, as in English. But Russians say a real, round о: LON-d’n, not LUN-dun. The second о comes after the stress, so it is short and weak (like the a in sofa).
ТЕЛЕФО́Н – not like the English TEL-ih-fohn: the stress is on the last syllable: ti-li-FON (е without stress sounds like a short и). That is why we mark the stress.
🎯 Why does о sound like а?
English swim is only for people and fish. Russian плыть is also for boats and ships: «Кора́бль плывёт» – the ship «swims». 🚢 And a plane is a «self-flyer» – самолёт! ✈️
🔬 Почему́ так · Why this way
- Two pairs, one picture each. Air and water are easy to tell apart, so two pairs on one day do not get mixed up; ➡️ / 🔄 is the same question again.
- The family's own things. The tropical fish tank is Natasha and Richard's real home – real things are easier to remember than textbook pictures.
- Wings and fins. Each verb has its own gesture: Macedonia · Knösche 2011.
- The cat makes the mistakes. Scuffles thinks fish fly – and then tries to fly herself. The student laughs and is never the one who is wrong.
