День 34 из 40: Е́сли пойдёт дождь…
📚 Слова́ дня · Words of the day: 3 – е́сли, дождь, зо́нтик.
💬 Long sentence of the day: Е́сли пойдёт дождь, я возьму́ зо́нтик. – «е́сли» + the future
⏱ Part 1 = 15 minutes – everybody finishes it. Part 2 = more, only if you want. · 🗺️ All days
Your homework from День 33: look out of the window – «Идёт дождь.» 🌧️ or «Дождя́ нет.» ☀️ And: «Почему́? – Потому́ что…» 🤷👉
You remembered it – that is your first win today. ✅
- Tap and listen. Show it: е́сли – a hand weighs something, tilts left and right ⚖️ · дождь – fingers fall like rain 🌧️ · зо́нтик – open an umbrella over your head ☂️
- After е́сли Russians speak about the future in the future: пойдёт, возьму́, бу́ду.
Say every word aloud and show it – the gesture is under the picture. Tap a picture – the dictionary opens.
Е́сли бу́дет со́лнце, мы пойдём гуля́ть. ☀️
👂 Listen first. Rain with your fingers, an umbrella over your head.
🌱 The seed of the day: «Е́сли пойдёт дождь…» – the future after е́сли. And a cat sleeps in any weather. 😹
Say every line aloud with the gestures. 🌧️☂️☀️
Е́сли пойдёт дождь, возьми́ зо́нтик! ☂️
Е́сли пойдёт дождь, я возьму́ зо́нтик. 🌧️
Е́сли бу́дет со́лнце, мы пойдём гуля́ть. ☀️
Е́сли пойдёт дождь, я бу́ду спать. 😴
- What will you do tomorrow? «Е́сли пойдёт дождь, я…» 🌧️ – «Е́сли бу́дет со́лнце, я…» ☀️
- Tell somebody at home: «Е́сли пойдёт дождь, возьми́ зо́нтик!» ☂️
- Speaking is optional – listening and doing count too.
Can you say it without looking? – Молоде́ц! Go to the tap quiz.
Guess, then tap. After е́сли – the future. ⏩
Хорошо́! Молоде́ц! Two small things left – two minutes.
дождь – at the end of a word Ж and Д go quiet: Ж → Ш, Д → Т. You say «дошть». 🤫 Many Russians even say «дощ».
- The same in нож – «нош», сад – «сат», хлеб – «хлеп».
- But in дожди́ (rains) you hear Ж again: «дажди́».
- 30 seconds, every day. This is aerobics for the tongue.
Tomorrow: что́бы – «in order to». Say where you go tomorrow: «За́втра я иду́ в магази́н.» 🛒 And once: «Е́сли пойдёт дождь, я возьму́ зо́нтик.» ☂️
That is the first minute of День 35. You already know it – so День 35 starts with a win.
You may stop here – see you tomorrow: День 35 · Иду́, что́бы купи́ть ▶
- Weather. The leader shows the weather: fingers fall 🌧️ – «Е́сли пойдёт дождь…» – the next finishes: «…я возьму́ зо́нтик!» · a big circle ☀️ – «Е́сли бу́дет со́лнце…» – «…мы пойдём гуля́ть!»
- A chain of «е́сли». «Е́сли пойдёт дождь, я бу́ду до́ма.» – «Е́сли я бу́ду до́ма, я бу́ду чита́ть.» – «Е́сли я бу́ду чита́ть, я бу́ду спать!» 😴 Who can make the longest chain?
- Cat logic. Everybody answers like Scuffles: «Е́сли пойдёт дождь, я бу́ду спать. Е́сли бу́дет со́лнце – я то́же бу́ду спать!» 😹
If you like sledging, you must like pulling the sledge too.
There is a hidden «е́сли» inside: «Е́сли лю́бишь ката́ться…». Every fun thing has its work. 🛷 «вози́ть» – a motion verb from День 14! 🤸 Gesture: slide down a hill with your hand… then pull a heavy sledge back up.
Read every line aloud, slowly. Every word is one you know. Tap a word to check. ✋
🙌 Today's words: Е́СЛИ · ДОЖДЬ · ЗО́НТИК
Ри́чард идёт в магази́н.
Е́сли пойдёт дождь, он возьмёт зо́нтик. ☂️
Е́сли бу́дет со́лнце, он пойдёт в парк. ☀️
А Ска́ффлз? Ска́ффлз бу́дет спать. 😴
зо́нтик = зонт + -ик – a small, dear umbrella ☂️
Just look and smile – you don't have to learn these now. 😊
Ри́чард, е́сли пойдёт дождь, возьми́ зо́нтик! – Хорошо́. Е́сли пойдёт дождь, я возьму́ зо́нтик. – А е́сли бу́дет пойдёт дождь, я бу́ду спать! – Не «бу́дет пойдёт» – про́сто «пойдёт». Е́сли пойдёт дождь, я бу́ду спать. – Е́сли пойдёт дождь, я бу́ду спать. А е́сли бу́дет со́лнце… я то́же бу́ду спать!
Richard, if it rains, take an umbrella! – All right. If it rains, I'll take an umbrella. – And if it will rains, I'll sleep! (Scuffles's mistake: «бу́дет пойдёт») – Not «will rains» – just «rains». If it rains, I'll sleep. – If it rains, I'll sleep. And if it is sunny… I'll sleep too!
- е́сли – if
- е́сли + the future: е́сли пойдёт дождь, я возьму́ зо́нтик
- never «бу́дет пойдёт» – a ✅ verb is already the future
- бу́дет – the future of «is»: е́сли бу́дет со́лнце
- ДОЖДЬ sounds «дошть»
ЛО́НДОН – the stress is on the first syllable, as in English. But Russians say a real, round о: LON-d’n, not LUN-dun. The second о comes after the stress, so it is short and weak (like the a in sofa).
ТЕЛЕФО́Н – not like the English TEL-ih-fohn: the stress is on the last syllable: ti-li-FON (е without stress sounds like a short и). That is why we mark the stress.
🎯 Why does о sound like а?
English says «If it rains tomorrow» – the now-form for the future. Russian is more logical: «Е́сли за́втра пойдёт дождь» – the future for the future. ⏩ Watch out for this one: English speakers often say «е́сли идёт дождь за́втра». 🙂
🔬 Почему́ так · Why this way
- One new word, two known halves. Е́сли joins two sentences the student can already make (the future from Курс 2) – one new thing at a time (Krashen 1985, i + 1).
- The English trap, named. «If it rains» → «е́сли пойдёт» is a known transfer mistake; seeing the two side by side helps the student notice it (Schmidt 1990, the noticing hypothesis).
- Real plans. «What will you do if it rains tomorrow?» – the student talks about their own day (Rogers · Kuiper · Kirker 1977, the self-reference effect).
- The cat makes the mistakes. Scuffles says «бу́дет пойдёт» – the student laughs and is never the one who is wrong.
