День 37 из 40: Я зна́ю, что…
📚 Слова́ дня · Words of the day: 2 – знать (я зна́ю), ду́мать (я ду́маю). And old friends: что, где, когда́.
💬 Long sentence of the day: Я зна́ю, где сыр. · Я ду́маю, что Ска́ффлз зна́ет. – a question word in the middle
⏱ Part 1 = 15 minutes – everybody finishes it. Part 2 = more, only if you want. · 🗺️ All days
Your homework from День 36: «Я зна́ю.» and «Я ду́маю.» 🤔 And: «Э́то ко́шка, кото́рая съе́ла сыр!» 😹
You remembered it – that is your first win today. ✅
- Tap and listen. Show it: я зна́ю – tap your head 👆 · я ду́маю – a finger on your chin, eyes up 🤔
- After «я зна́ю, …» and «я ду́маю, …» comes a whole sentence – with что, где, когда́ or почему́ in the middle.
Say every word aloud and show it – the gesture is under the picture. Tap a picture – the dictionary opens.
❓ Когда́ ты спишь? → Я зна́ю, когда́ ты спишь. 😼
👂 Listen first. Tap your head on «зна́ю», a finger on your chin on «ду́маю».
🌱 The seed of the day: «Я зна́ю, где…», «Я ду́маю, что…» – now you can say what you know and think. And Scuffles knows too much! 😹
Say every line aloud with the gestures. 👆🤔
Я зна́ю, где сыр. 💡🧀
Я зна́ю, когда́ ты спишь. 😼
Я ду́маю, что Ска́ффлз зна́ет. 🤔
Я не зна́ю, почему́ сы́ра нет! 🤷
- «Я зна́ю, где…» – say where something is at home: «Я зна́ю, где мои́ очки́.» 👓
- «Я ду́маю, что…» – what do you think about tomorrow? «Я ду́маю, что за́втра пойдёт дождь.» 🌧️
- «Я не зна́ю, почему́…» 🤷
- Speaking is optional – listening and doing count too.
Can you say it without looking? – Молоде́ц! Go to the tap quiz.
Guess, then tap. Which word goes in the middle? 🤔
Хорошо́! Молоде́ц! Two small things left – two minutes.
Где сыр? – a question: the voice goes up on «где» ↗️ and down at the end.
Я зна́ю, где сыр. – not a question: the voice goes down at the end ↘️, calm, like a full stop.
- Say both with your hand: up ↗️ for the question, down ↘️ for «я зна́ю».
- The same pair: Когда́ ты спишь? ↗️ – Я зна́ю, когда́ ты спишь. ↘️
- 30 seconds, every day. This is aerobics for the tongue.
Tomorrow: бы – wishes and dreams. Think of one thing you want: «Я хочу́…» ✨ And once: «Я зна́ю, где…» 💡
That is the first minute of День 38. You already know it – so День 38 starts with a win.
You may stop here – see you tomorrow: День 38 · Е́сли бы у меня́ была́ ры́ба… ▶
- I know where! One hides a small thing (cheese, a pen…). The others ask: «Ты зна́ешь, где ру́чка?» – the one who hid it taps their head 👆: «Да, я зна́ю, где ру́чка!» – and the others look for it.
- Question or not? The leader says a sentence with the hand up ↗️ or down ↘️ – the others say «вопро́с!» (question) or «не вопро́с!»
- I think that… Everybody guesses about the others: «Я ду́маю, что Ри́чард лю́бит сыр.» – «Пра́вда!» or «Непра́вда!» 😄
You never know where you will find and where you will lose.
Life is full of surprises. 🎁 «где» in the middle – twice! 🤸 Gesture: find something on the floor with a happy face… then pat your empty pockets with a sad face.
Read every line aloud, slowly. Every word is one you know. Tap a word to check. ✋
🙌 Today's words: ЗНАТЬ · ДУ́МАТЬ · ГДЕ · КОГДА́
Ната́ша не зна́ет, где сыр.
Ри́чард ду́мает, что Ска́ффлз зна́ет. 🤔
Ска́ффлз зна́ет, где сыр, и зна́ет, когда́ все спят. 😼
Я ду́маю, что за́втра Ри́чард пойдёт в магази́н, что́бы купи́ть сыр! 🛒
ду́мать – ду́мка (a little thought) · поду́мать ✅ (to think a little: «Я поду́маю!»)
Just look and smile – you don't have to learn these now. 😊
Ри́чард, ты зна́ешь, где сыр? – Я ду́маю, что Ска́ффлз зна́ет, где сыр. – Я зна́ю, что где сыр! – Не «что где» – одно́ сло́во: «Я зна́ю, где сыр.» – Я зна́ю, где сыр. Он в холоди́льнике. И я зна́ю, когда́ ты спишь! – Ой! Я ду́маю, что за́втра не бу́дет сы́ра!
Richard, do you know where the cheese is? – I think that Scuffles knows where the cheese is. – I know that where the cheese is! (Scuffles's mistake) – Not «that where» – one word: «I know where the cheese is.» – I know where the cheese is. It's in the fridge. And I know when you sleep! – Oh! I think there will be no cheese tomorrow!
- я зна́ю, ты зна́ешь – знать · я ду́маю, ты ду́маешь – ду́мать
- зна́ю / ду́маю + , что / где / когда́ / почему́ + a sentence
- что in the middle = «that»
- no question mark – the voice goes down ↘️
ЛО́НДОН – the stress is on the first syllable, as in English. But Russians say a real, round о: LON-d’n, not LUN-dun. The second о comes after the stress, so it is short and weak (like the a in sofa).
ТЕЛЕФО́Н – not like the English TEL-ih-fohn: the stress is on the last syllable: ti-li-FON (е without stress sounds like a short и). That is why we mark the stress.
🎯 Why does о sound like а?
English can drop «that»: «I think ∅ Scuffles knows.» Russian can't drop что in writing: «Я ду́маю, что Ска́ффлз зна́ет.» And English changes the word order: «Where is the cheese?» → «I know where the cheese is.» Russian keeps the order: «Где сыр?» → «Я зна́ю, где сыр.» Easier! 😊
🔬 Почему́ так · Why this way
- Questions the student already knows. Где? Когда́? Почему́? from Курс 1 now go into the middle – old words in a new place (Ausubel 1968, meaningful learning).
- The voice is grammar too. Up for a question, down for «я зна́ю, где…» – with the hand, so the student feels it (Macedonia 2019, gestures and memory).
- A real game. Hiding a thing and saying «Я зна́ю, где…» – the sentence has a real use (Ellis 2003, task-based learning).
- The cat makes the mistakes. Scuffles says «что где» – the student laughs and is never the one who is wrong.
