You remembered it – that is your first win today. ✅
- Tap and listen. Show it: кото́рый – point back at the word you just said 👈 («that one!»), then go on with your hand ➡️.
- кото́рый joins two sentences about the same cat, person or thing.
👂 Listen first. Point back 👈 on every «
★ The rule of the day: кото́рый looks back. 30 seconds.
Э́то ко́шка. + Ко́шка спит. → Э́то ко́шка, кото́рая спит. 🩷
Э́то молоко́. + Молоко́ стои́т на столе́. → Э́то молоко́, кото́рое стои́т на столе́. 🥛
кото́рый looks back 👈 at the word before it and takes its form: он → кото́рый · она́ → кото́рая · оно́ → кото́рое · они́ → кото́рые – the same endings as ра́достный / ая / ое / ые (День 30)! Comma before it. ✍️
🌱 The seed of the day: «Ко́шка, кото́рая съе́ла сыр» – now you can say who did it! 😹
Say every line aloud – point back 👈 on «кото́рый».
Э́то кот, кото́рый съел сыр. 🐈
Э́то ко́шка, кото́рая съе́ла сыр. 🐈⬛
Э́то ры́бки, кото́рые пла́вают. 🐟
Сли́нки – ко́шка, кото́рая спит. 😴
- Show something at home and say: «Э́то кни́га, кото́рая лежи́т на столе́.» 📕 · «Э́то ла́мпа, кото́рая стои́т…» – position verbs from День 2!
- Who is who at home? «Мой брат – челове́к, кото́рый лю́бит футбо́л.» ⚽
- Speaking is optional – listening and doing count too.
Can you say it without looking? – Молоде́ц! Go to the tap quiz.
Guess, then tap. Look back 👈 – he, she, it or they?
Хорошо́! Молоде́ц! Two small things left – two minutes.
кото́рый – the end is -ЫЙ. Smile a little, pull your tongue back – «ы-ы-ы» – then a short «й». 😁
- Say: кото́р-ы-й – кото́рый. And the first О sounds like А: «катóрый».
- The same Ы: сыр, ры́ба, ты.
- 30 seconds, every day. This is aerobics for the tongue.
Tomorrow: «Я зна́ю, что…» Say two words you know: «Я зна́ю.» and «Я ду́маю.» 🤔 And once: «Э́то ко́шка, кото́рая съе́ла сыр!» 😹
That is the first minute of День 37. You already know it – so День 37 starts with a win.
- Who is it? The leader describes a person in the room with кото́рый – the others guess: «Э́то челове́к, кото́рый пьёт чай.» – «Ри́чард!» ☕ · «Э́то ко́шка, кото́рая спит.» – «Сли́нки!»
- Point back. Say a sentence and point back 👈 on кото́рый: blue hand for кото́рый, pink for кото́рая, green for кото́рые.
- The longest sentence. Add one more «кото́рый» each time: «Э́то сыр.» – «Э́то сыр, кото́рый лежа́л на столе́.» – «Э́то ко́шка, кото́рая съе́ла сыр, кото́рый лежа́л на столе́!» 😹
It is not the dog that barks that bites, but the one that is quiet.
Be careful with quiet people! 🐕 Two «кото́рая» – because соба́ка is «she». 🤸 Gesture: bark «гав-гав!» with your hand as a mouth… then a quiet hand – and a sudden «bite».
Read every line aloud, slowly. Every word is one you know. Tap a word to check. ✋
🙌 Today's word: КОТО́РЫЙ · КОТО́РАЯ · КОТО́РОЕ · КОТО́РЫЕ
Э́то сыр, кото́рый лежа́л на столе́. 🧀
Э́то ко́шка, кото́рая съе́ла сыр. 😹
Э́то Ри́чард, кото́рый не нашёл сыр. 😱
Э́то Ната́ша, кото́рая идёт в магази́н, что́бы купи́ть сыр. 🛒
The same four endings everywhere: ра́достный / ая / ое / ые · но́вый / ая / ое / ые · кото́рый / ая / ое / ые
Just look and smile – you don't have to learn these now. 😊
Э́то кот, кото́рый съел сыр? – Нет! Э́то ко́шка, кото́рая съе́ла сыр – Ска́ффлз! – Да! Я ко́шка, кото́рый съел сыр! – Ты – ко́шка, кото́рая съе́ла сыр. Ко́шка – она́, зна́чит «кото́рая». – Хорошо́. Я ко́шка, кото́рая съе́ла сыр… и кото́рая хо́чет ещё! – А Сли́нки – ко́шка, кото́рая спит.
Is this the cat who ate the cheese? – No! This is the she-cat who ate the cheese – Scuffles! – Yes! I'm the cat who (he) ate (he) the cheese! (Scuffles's mistake) – You are the cat who (she) ate (she) the cheese. A кошка is «she», so «кото́рая». – All right. I'm the cat who ate the cheese… and who wants more! – And Slinky is the cat who is sleeping.
- ★ кото́рый – who, which, that
- it looks back 👈: кот → кото́рый · ко́шка → кото́рая · молоко́ → кото́рое · ры́бки → кото́рые
- the same endings as ра́достный (День 30)
- comma before кото́рый
- Кото́рый час? – What time is it?
ЛО́НДОН – the stress is on the first syllable, as in English. But Russians say a real, round о: LON-d’n, not LUN-dun. The second о comes after the stress, so it is short and weak (like the a in sofa).
ТЕЛЕФО́Н – not like the English TEL-ih-fohn: the stress is on the last syllable: ti-li-FON (е without stress sounds like a short и). That is why we mark the stress.
🎯 Why does о sound like а?
English has a nursery rhyme built on «that»: «This is the house that Jack built. This is the malt that lay in the house that Jack built…» Russian children know it too, with кото́рый: «Дом, кото́рый постро́ил Джек». Try to make your own chain – like in the gesture game! 🏠
🔬 Почему́ так · Why this way
- One rule, already known endings. кото́рый / -ая / -ое / -ые has the endings of ра́достный from День 30 – new grammar is built on something the student already has (Ausubel 1968, meaningful learning).
- Two sentences → one. The student first says the two short sentences (homework), then joins them – they see how the long sentence is made (sentence combining, Saddler 2012).
- Natasha's gender colours. Blue, pink, green for кото́рый / кото́рая / кото́рые – the form is seen, not only heard.
- The cat makes the mistakes. Scuffles says «ко́шка, кото́рый» – the student laughs and is never the one who is wrong.
кото́рый – кото́рая · кото́рое · кото́рые (no picture)
