• Full names and jobs: «учи́тельница Ната́лья Бра́ун», «жи́тель Ло́ндона Ри́чард Бра́ун» – not «Ната́ша».
  
• Dates and numbers: «7 ноября́ 2026 го́да», «40 дней».
  
• Who says it: «Как сообща́ет …», «По слова́м …» – the reporter does not say «я».
  
• The book forms of Group 1 (purple): откры́т, рассчи́тан (👇✅ short forms, День 4), подозрева́емая (〰️ a participle used as a noun – the suspect).
  
• No «приве́т», «кру́то», jokes or feelings. 😐

Hi, guys! The cheese is gone! Cool, eh? It wasn't me! (Scuffles's mistake: home style in the news) – Scuffles! In the news they don't say «hi, guys» and «cool». The news is a serious style. – As the cat Scuffles reports, the cheese was very tasty. – The cat has confessed! Slinky is watching TV.

💡 Пра́вило · Rule

• News style: full names + jobs · dates and numbers · «Как сообща́ет…», «По слова́м…» · no «я», no jokes.
• Book forms come back: откры́т, рассчи́тан (День 4), подозрева́емая (День 2).
• The voice goes down at the end ↘️.

ударе́ние⁠ – stress – shows the syllable you say louder and longer, just like in English: LUN-dun (London), TEL-ih-fohn (telephone).

ЛО́НДОН⁠ – the stress is on the first syllable, as in English. But Russians say a real, round о: LON-d’n, not LUN-dun. The second о comes after the stress, so it is short and weak (like the a in sofa).
ТЕЛЕФО́Н⁠ – not like the English TEL-ih-fohn: the stress is on the last syllable: ti-li-FON (е without stress sounds like a short и). That is why we mark the stress.

The sign is only a help for learners. Russian books don't print it, and you don't write it.
🎯 Why does о sound like а?

Russian news is famous for long nouns: «приня́тие реше́ния» (the taking of a decision) instead of «реши́ли» (they decided). English news does the same – «the implementation of measures». Learn to see the verb hiding inside the noun – and the news gets easy. 😉

🔬 Почему́ так · Why this way

• Yesterday's homework first. Remembering without looking is one of the best-proven tools: Agarwal · Nunes · Blunt 2021.
• Style is part of meaning. Knowing which word fits which person and place (sociolinguistic competence) is one of the main parts of real language skill (Canale · Swain 1980).
• True news about us. The news items are true (the course opened on 7 Nov 2026; the cheese story is the running joke of the course) – real content makes the text worth reading.

• The cat makes the mistakes. Scuffles says it wrong – the student laughs and is never the one who is wrong.
