День 26 из 40: Ната́лья – Ната́ша – Ната́шенька
📚 Слова́ дня · Words of the day: 3 – и́мя, о́тчество, фами́лия.
🗣️ Глаго́л дня · Verb of the day: звать – «Как вас зову́т?» 🙇 · «Как тебя́ зову́т?» 👋
⏱ Part 1 = 15 minutes – everybody finishes it. Part 2 = more, only if you want. · 🗺️ All days
Your homework from День 25: Natasha's name three ways:
«Ната́лья» 🙇 · «Ната́ша» 👋 · «Ната́шенька» ❤️
You remembered it – that is your first win today. Yesterday – three hellos. Today – three (and more!) names.
- Tap and listen. Then do it: Ната́лья – a little bow 🙇 · Ната́ша – a wave 👋 · Ната́шенька – both hands on your heart ❤️.
- One person – many names. The name you choose says how close you are.
Say every word aloud and show it – the gesture is under the picture. Tap a word or its picture – the dictionary opens. 🔊 = listen.
о́тчество – the father's name (Ива́нович, Ива́новна): a thumb back over your shoulder – «from my father» 👴
👂 Listen first. Bow, wave or hand on heart on every name.
Ска́ффлз (from the kitchen): Ната́шка!
🎭 One name – many styles
🙇 Ната́лья – full, official (a passport, a letter) · with о́тчество – very polite: «Ната́лья + father's name»
👋 Ната́ша – everyday: friends, family, colleagues
❤️ Ната́шенька, Ната́шечка – loving (-еньк-, -ечк-, Курс 3) · 😠 Ната́шка – rude, or between children
The same with many names: Алекса́ндр – Са́ша – Са́шенька · Ива́н – Ва́ня – Ва́нечка · Мари́я – Ма́ша – Ма́шенька (День 1!)
на «вы» – polite, with the full name or name + о́тчество · на «ты» – with Ната́ша, Са́ша. «Дава́йте перейдём на "ты"!» – let's switch to ты.
🌱 The seed of the day: the form of a name is a style too – and it changes with вы and ты (День 19!).
Say every line aloud – bow, wave, hand on heart.
Как вас зову́т? – Ната́лья. 🙇
Как тебя́ зову́т? – Ната́ша. 👋
Ната́шенька, дай сы́ру! ❤️🧀
Дава́йте перейдём на «ты»! 🤝
- Introduce yourself two ways: «Меня́ зову́т … – официа́льно.» and «Мо́жно про́сто …» (just …).
- Does your name have a Russian form? Мари́я → Ма́ша, Алекса́ндр → Са́ша, Еле́на → Ле́на… or does it stay like Ри́чард?
- Speaking is optional – listening and doing count too.
Can you say it without looking? – Молоде́ц! Go to the tap quiz.
Guess, then tap. Which style? A wrong tap is a guess. 😊
Хорошо́! Молоде́ц! Two small things left – two minutes.
НАТА́ЛЬЯ sounds «ната́л-йа»: the soft sign gives a little Й (День 10).
- Ната́лья «ната́л-йа» · Илья́ «ил-йа́» · семья́ «сим-йа́».
- Ната́шенька – the stress stays on ТА́: на-ТА́-шень-ка – the endings are quiet.
- Clap on the loud syllable: на-ТА́-лья 👏 · на-ТА́-ша 👏 · на-ТА́-шень-ка 👏. 30 seconds, every day.
Tomorrow morning sit up straight like a newsreader 📺 and say in a serious voice: «До́брый ве́чер. В эфи́ре – но́вости.» 🎙️
That is the first minute of День 27. You already know it – so День 27 starts with a win.
- Name ladder. One says a full name – the others go down the ladder: «Алекса́ндр!» – «Са́ша!» – «Са́шенька!» ❤️ · «Ива́н!» – «Ва́ня!» – «Ва́нечка!»
- Вы or ты? One plays a person (a teacher, a little boy, a granny, a friend). The others ask «Как вас / тебя́ зову́т?» – the right one!
- Pet names for pets. Make loving forms for your animals: Сли́нки → Сли́нечка, Ска́ффлз → Ска́ффлзик 😄 – what does your cat or dog get?
It's not the name that makes the person beautiful – it's the person who makes the name.
What you do matters more than what you are called. 🤸 Gesture: point at a name card – shake your head – then point at the person and smile.
Read the little dialogues aloud – in the right voice. 🎭 ✋
🙌 Today's words: И́МЯ · О́ТЧЕСТВО · ФАМИ́ЛИЯ
🙇 – Как вас зову́т? – Мари́я Ива́новна. Я ва́ша учи́тельница.
👋 – Как тебя́ зову́т? – Ма́ша. А тебя́? – Ва́ня.
❤️ – Ма́шенька, иди́ обе́дать! – Иду́, ма́ма!
🤝 – Дава́йте перейдём на «ты»! – Дава́й!
оте́ц – a father · о́тчество – the father's name · оте́чество – the fatherland
Just look and smile – you don't have to learn these now. 😊
Ната́шка! Дай сы́ру! – «Ната́шка» – э́то гру́бо, Ска́ффлз! Ната́ша и́ли Ната́шенька. – Ната́шенька, дай сы́ру! – Ну, лиса́ из ба́сни! – А Ри́чард – Ри́чардик! – Ри́чард – и всё. Англи́йские имена́ не меня́ются. Сли́нки – Сли́нечка? – Мя́у!
«Ната́шка»! Give me cheese! (Scuffles's mistake: a rude form of the name) – «Ната́шка» is rude, Scuffles! Natasha or Natashenka. – Dear Natashenka, give me some cheese! – Well, the fox from the fable! – And Richard is «Ри́чардик»! – Richard – and that's all. English names don't change. Slinky – «Сли́нечка»? – Miaow!
- Full name 🙇 (Ната́лья) · everyday 👋 (Ната́ша) · loving ❤️ (Ната́шенька) · rude 😠 (Ната́шка).
- и́мя + о́тчество – very polite, with вы: Мари́я Ива́новна.
- о́тчество: Ива́н → Ива́нович (he) · Ива́новна (she).
- «Дава́йте перейдём на "ты"!»
ЛО́НДОН – the stress is on the first syllable, as in English. But Russians say a real, round о: LON-d’n, not LUN-dun. The second о comes after the stress, so it is short and weak (like the a in sofa).
ТЕЛЕФО́Н – not like the English TEL-ih-fohn: the stress is on the last syllable: ti-li-FON (е without stress sounds like a short и). That is why we mark the stress.
🎯 Why does о sound like а?
English has nicknames too – Elizabeth → Liz, Beth, Betty – but Russian has many for each name, each with its own feeling. And the о́тчество (Ива́нович) is like the old English «Johnson» = John's son – only Russians still use it every day. 🙇
🔬 Почему́ так · Why this way
- Yesterday's homework first. Remembering without looking is one of the best-proven tools: Agarwal · Nunes · Blunt 2021.
- Style is part of meaning. Knowing which word fits which person and place (sociolinguistic competence) is one of the main parts of real language skill (Canale · Swain 1980).
- The body does the word. A gesture on every form ties the form to a movement: Macedonia · Knösche 2011.
- The cat makes the mistakes. Scuffles says it wrong – the student laughs and is never the one who is wrong.
