  • Ри́чард: А Сли́нки? Что она́ де́лает?
  • Сли́нки: Хр-р-р… 😴 – Ната́ша: Сли́нки ничего́ не де́лает. Она́ спит!
  • Ска́ффлз: А я то́же ничего́ не де́лает!
  • Ната́ша: Нет, Ска́ффлз! Я ничего́ не де́лаю. – Ска́ффлз: Р-р-р… Я де́лаю. 😾

🌱 The seed of the day: он -ет · я -ю · вы -ете – the same three ends as yesterday's зна́ет, зна́ю, зна́ете. Just hear it and point. The rule comes on День 4.

🔁 Повторя́йте · Repeat

Say every line aloud, with the gestures. Point on он 👉, я 👆, вы 🫵.

Что он де́лает? 🤷
Он чита́ет. 📖 Я чита́ю. Вы чита́ете?
Она́ рабо́тает. 💻 Я рабо́таю. Вы рабо́таете?
Что вы де́лаете? – Я чита́ю!
Сли́нки ничего́ не де́лает. Она́ спит. 😴

🗣️ Ва́ша о́чередь! · Your turn!

  • Speaking is optional – listening and doing count too.

Can you say it without looking? – Молоде́ц! Go to the tap quiz.

✔ Прове́рьте себя́ · Check yourself

Guess, then tap. A wrong tap is not a mistake – it is a guess. 😊

1 📰 Richard has a newspaper. Ри́чард …

ЧИТА́ЕТ
РАБО́ТАЕТ
ЗНА́ЮТ

2 💻 Natasha at her laptop: «Я …»

РАБО́ТАЕТ
РАБО́ТАЮ
РАБО́ТАЕТЕ

3 🫵 You ask a neighbour: «Что вы …?»

ДЕ́ЛАЮ
ДЕ́ЛАЕТ
ДЕ́ЛАЕТЕ

4 😴 Slinky sleeps. Она́ ничего́ не …

ДЕ́ЛАЕТ
ДЕ́ЛАЮ
ЧИТА́Ю

5 😾 Scuffles says «Я де́лает». How is it right?

Я ДЕ́ЛАЮ
Я ДЕ́ЛАЕТЕ
Я ДЕ́ЛАТЬ

Хорошо́! Молоде́ц! Two small things left – two minutes.

🔊 Звук дня · Sound of the day: the soft Ч

Ч is always soft – like ch in cheese, with a smile.

  • чи- – чи-та́ть – чита́ю. Smile on ЧИ, then open the mouth on ТА.
  • And что – Russians say што: «Што он де́лает?» 😄 Only this little word.
  • 30 seconds, every day. This is aerobics for the tongue.
🏠 Дома́шняя рабо́та · Homework – one small thing

Tomorrow morning, with a book or a newspaper in your hands, say: «Я чита́ю.» 📖 Point at someone: «Он рабо́тает.» And ask the mirror: «Что вы де́лаете?»
That is the first minute of День 3. You already know it – so День 3 starts with a win.

✔ Часть 1 гото́ва! Part 1 done.
You may stop here – see you tomorrow: День 3 · Мы чита́ем, они́ чита́ют ▶
Часть 2 · Е́сли хоти́те · +25 мину́тPart 2 – only if you want more. Nothing here is needed for tomorrow.
🤸 Жестова́я игра́ · Gesture game
  1. Gesture → word. Make a gesture – say the word: 🤲 де́лать · 📖 чита́ть · 💻 рабо́тать · 🤔 знать.
  2. «Что он де́лает?» Somebody makes a gesture – you say what he does: «Он чита́ет!» «Он рабо́тает!» Then swap.
  3. Faster and faster. 📖 «Я чита́ю» → 👉 «Он чита́ет» → 🫵 «Вы чита́ете?» – then the same with рабо́тать and де́лать.

Remembering a word from the gesture works better than reading it again.

🦉 Посло́вица дня · proverb of the day · 👂 listen and read
Де́лу вре́мя – поте́хе час.

Time for work – an hour for fun. – First the work, then the play.
де́ло (work, business) comes from today's де́лать. 🤸 Gesture: busy hands on «де́лу вре́мя», then clap and smile on «поте́хе час».

📖 Чита́йте са́ми · Read alone – guess, then tap

Ната́ша рабо́тает. Я то́же рабо́таю.
Вы чита́ете? – Да, я чита́ю кни́гу.

🔗 Одно́ сло́во – мно́го слов · one word – many words

📖 Текст уро́ка · The text – open it only after you can say it without reading

And Natasha is working. – Yes, I am working. And you? What are you doing? – I am reading! – And Slinky? What is she doing? – Zzz… – Slinky is doing nothing. She is asleep! – And me too, he does nothing! (Scuffles's mistake) – No, Scuffles! I do nothing. – Grrr… I do.

💡 Пра́вило · Rule
  • Что он де́лает? – what is he doing? Что вы де́лаете? – what are you doing?
  • The verb changes its end with the person: он де́лает · я де́лаю · вы де́лаете.
  • чита́ть and рабо́тать do the same: чита́ет, чита́ю, чита́ете.
  • не goes before the verb: Он не рабо́тает. Ничего́ не де́лает.
  • The rule for all six persons comes on День 4.
ударе́ние – словарь ударе́ние – stress – shows the syllable you say louder and longer, just like in English: LUN-dun (London), TEL-ih-fohn (telephone).

ЛО́НДОН – словарь ЛО́НДОН – the stress is on the first syllable, as in English. But Russians say a real, round о: LON-d’n, not LUN-dun. The second о comes after the stress, so it is short and weak (like the a in sofa).
ТЕЛЕФО́Н – словарь ТЕЛЕФО́Н – not like the English TEL-ih-fohn: the stress is on the last syllable: ti-li-FON (е without stress sounds like a short и). That is why we mark the stress.

The sign is only a help for learners. Russian books don't print it, and you don't write it.
🎯 Why does о sound like а?
😄 Для тех, кто говори́т по-англи́йски · For English speakers

English has two: he reads and he is reading. Russian has one: он чита́ет. Less to learn! 😌
And «Сли́нки ничего́ не де́лает» has two «no» words: nothing + not. In Russian two «no»s don't cancel – they say «really nothing». 😴

🔬 Почему́ так · Why this way

  • A win in the first minute. The warm-up is yesterday's homework – remembering without looking is one of the best-proven tools: Agarwal · Nunes · Blunt 2021.
  • он → я → вы again, with new verbs. The same three ends with three new verbs: the student hears the pattern before anybody names it. The ★ rule comes on День 4, after 3–4 meetings.
  • Three new words, not more. One new thing at a time keeps working memory free (Sweller, cognitive load).
  • Say it and show it. A word said with a gesture stays in memory far longer: Macedonia · Knösche 2011.
  • The cat makes the mistakes. Scuffles says «я де́лает», Natasha corrects the cat – the student laughs and is never the one who is wrong.
