День 5 из 40: Куда́ кладём?
📚 Слова́ дня · Words of the day: 2 – класть, положи́ть. (Old friends: лежа́ть, стол, кни́га, сыр.)
🗣️ Глаго́лы дня · Verbs of the day: класть 〰️ → положи́ть ✅ → лежа́ть 📍 – now we move a thing, not ourselves
⏱ Part 1 = 15 minutes – everybody finishes it. Part 2 = more, only if you want. · 🗺️ All days
Your homework from День 4: last night and this morning –
«Я ложу́сь спать… Легла́ / Лёг!» 😴 – «Я встаю́… Вста́ла / Встал!» 🧍
You remembered it – that is your first win today. ✅
- Tap and listen. Then do it with a book: put it down slowly 〰️ – it touches the table ✅ – it lies there 📍.
- День 3 and 4: you moved. Today you move a thing.
Say every word aloud and show it – the gesture is under the picture. Tap a word or its picture – the dictionary opens.
👂 Listen first. Put a book or a phone down with every line: 〰️ – ✅ – 📍
(Where is the cheese?)
🌱 The seed of the day: куда́? – на стол (the thing is moving) · где? – на столе́ (the thing is there). The question decides the ending. And: «я ложу́» is a mistake – even many Russians make it! Say кладу́. ✅
Say every line aloud and do it with a book: 〰️ – ✅ – 📍
Я кладу́ кни́гу на стол. 〰️
Я положи́ла (he: положи́л) кни́гу на стол. ✅
Кни́га лежи́т на столе́. 📍
Куда́? – На стол. Где? – На столе́. 👉
Не «ложу́» – а «кладу́»! 😄
- Put your phone down: «Я кладу́ телефо́н на стол… Положи́л(а)! Телефо́н лежи́т на столе́.»
- Ask someone (or the cat): «Куда́ ты кладёшь кни́гу?» – «На стол.»
- Where are your keys? «Ключи́ лежа́т на столе́.» (or в су́мке – in the bag)
- Speaking is optional – listening and doing count too.
Can you say it without looking? – Молоде́ц! Go to the tap quiz.
Guess, then tap. 〰️ moving, ✅ done, 📍 there – and куда́ or где? 😊
Хорошо́! Молоде́ц! Two small things left – two minutes.
положи́ть – only И is loud. The two О have no stress, so they sound like a short «а»: «па-ла-жы́ть». (And Ж is hard, День 1: «жы».)
- Clap on the loud syllable: па-ла-ЖЫ́ть 👏
- The same in положи́л: «па-ла-жы́л».
- 30 seconds, every day. This is aerobics for the tongue.
Tomorrow morning, put your phone or your keys on the table with the three:
«Я кладу́ телефо́н на стол… Положи́л(а)! Телефо́н лежи́т на столе́.»
That is the first minute of День 6. You already know it – so День 6 starts with a win.
- Куда́? – Где? One person puts things down and asks «Куда́ я кладу́ кни́гу?» – the others: «На стол!». Then «Где кни́га?» – «На столе́!» 👉
- Hide the keys. Somebody hides the keys. The others ask: «Где ключи́? На столе́? На дива́не? В су́мке?» – «Нет!» / «Да! Ключи́ лежа́т в су́мке!» 🔑
- Scuffles's mistake. Somebody says «Я ложу́…» – everybody shouts «Кладу́!» 😄
Remembering a word with the whole body works better than reading it again.
Don't put things carelessly – don't lead a thief into sin.
Put your things away safely. «клади́» – today's verb, the command for «ты». 🤸 Gesture: put your phone down carelessly… then quickly into your pocket!
Read every line aloud, slowly. Every word is one you know. Tap a word to check. ✋
🙌 Today's words: КЛАСТЬ · ПОЛОЖИ́ТЬ
Ната́ша кладёт кни́гу на стол. Положи́ла.
Кни́га лежи́т на столе́. Телефо́н то́же лежи́т на столе́.
Ска́ффлз кладёт сыр… в рот! 😋
Где сыр? – Сы́ра нет! 😄
класть – клад-: клад – a treasure: something put in the ground 💰 (the proverb of Курс 2, День 13!) · закла́дка – a bookmark: what you put in a book
Just look and smile – you don't have to learn these now. 😊
Я кладу́ кни́гу на стол… Положи́ла! Кни́га лежи́т на столе́. – Куда́ я кладу́ телефо́н? – На стол! Положи́л! Телефо́н лежи́т на столе́. – Я ложу́ сыр на стол! – Ска́ффлз! «Ложу́» – нет тако́го сло́ва! Я кладу́, ты кладёшь! – Хорошо́… Я кладу́ сыр… в рот! – Мя́у!
I am putting the book on the table… I've put it! The book is lying on the table. – Where am I putting the phone? – On the table! I've put it! The phone is lying on the table. – I'm «ложу́»-ing the cheese on the table! (Scuffles's mistake) – Scuffles! «Ложу́» – there is no such word! I put – «кладу́», you put – «кладёшь»! – All right… I'm putting the cheese… in my mouth! – Miaow!
- 〰️ класть – ✅ положи́ть – 📍 лежа́ть – something is put to lie (a book, a phone, cheese, keys).
- класть: я кладу́, ты кладёшь, он кладёт, мы кладём, вы кладёте, они́ кладу́т · клал, кла́ла · Клади́!
- положи́ть (pf): положи́л, положи́ла · future я положу́, ты поло́жишь · Положи́!
- Куда́? – на стол (moving) · Где? – на столе́ (there)
- ❌ «я ложу́» – ✔ я кладу́. (✔ «я ложу́сь» – I lie down, День 4.)
ЛО́НДОН – the stress is on the first syllable, as in English. But Russians say a real, round о: LON-d’n, not LUN-dun. The second о comes after the stress, so it is short and weak (like the a in sofa).
ТЕЛЕФО́Н – not like the English TEL-ih-fohn: the stress is on the last syllable: ti-li-FON (е without stress sounds like a short и). That is why we mark the stress.
🎯 Why does о sound like а?
English has one verb – put – for everything. Russian asks: how will the thing be after you put it? Lying – класть / положи́ть. Standing – ста́вить (tomorrow). Hanging – ве́шать (tomorrow). So a Russian «puts a cup to stand» and «puts a book to lie». 📖☕
🔬 Почему́ так · Why this way
- A win in the first minute. Last night's and this morning's sentences are the warm-up – remembered from real life: Agarwal · Nunes · Blunt 2021.
- From the subject to the object. День 3–4: «I sit down, I lie down». Today the same three gestures, but the hand moves a thing – Natasha's logic: «of a subject» → «of an object».
- One question, one ending. куда́? → на стол, где? → на столе́: the ending is tied to the question, not to a table of cases.
- A common mistake made funny. «я ложу́» is said by many Russians too. Scuffles says it – the student laughs and will not forget «кладу́».
