День 4 из 40: Ложу́сь – лёг – лежу́
📚 Слова́ дня · Words of the day: 4 – ложи́ться, лечь, встава́ть, встать.
🗣️ Глаго́лы дня · Verbs of the day: ложи́ться 〰️ → лечь ✅ → лежа́ть 📍 · встава́ть 〰️ → встать ✅ → стоя́ть 📍
⏱ Part 1 = 15 minutes – everybody finishes it. Part 2 = more, only if you want. · 🗺️ All days
Your homework from День 3: sit down on a chair with Natasha's three – and the gestures:
«Я сажу́сь… 〰️ – Я се́л(а)! ✅ – Я сижу́. 📍»
You remembered it – that is your first win today. Today there are two more threes. ✅
- Tap and listen. Then do it on a sofa – or just put your head on your hands: going down 〰️ – there! ✅ – lying 📍.
- «Встаём!» is an old friend from Курс 1 – today it gets its three too.
Say every word aloud and show it. Two threes – the same gestures as yesterday: 〰️ a long slow line · ✅ a stamp · 📍 hands still.
🛌 Lie down:
🧍 Get up:
👂 Listen first. Lie down (or head on your hands) and get up with every line.
- Ната́ша: Ве́чер. Я ложу́сь спать… 〰️ Легла́! ✅ Я лежу́. 📍 😴
- Ри́чард: Я ложу́сь… Лёг! Лежу́. 📒
- ⏰ Ната́ша: У́тро! Я встаю́… 〰️ Вста́ла! ✅ Я стою́. 📍 – Ри́чард, встава́й!
- Ри́чард: Я встаю́… встаю́… (he does not move) 😄
Ска́ффлз: (she jumps on the pillow) Я лёг!
- Ната́ша: Ска́ффлз, ты не лёг – ты легла́! Ты ко́шка!
Ска́ффлз: Я легла́… и лежу́. И не встаю́! 😾 –
Сли́нки: (already up, by her bowl) Мя́у!
🌱 The seed of the day: he лёг, she легла́, they легли́ – the past of Курс 2 in Natasha's colours. «лёг» has no -л: it is a short, strong word. ✅
Say every line aloud and do it: 〰️ – ✅ – 📍
Я ложу́сь… 〰️ Легла́! (he: Лёг!) ✅ Я лежу́. 📍
Я встаю́… 〰️ Вста́ла! (he: Встал!) ✅ Я стою́. 📍
Ри́чард, встава́й! – Я встаю́, встаю́… 😄
Ска́ффлз легла́ и лежи́т. Она́ не встаёт! 😾
- Put your head on your hands: «Я ложу́сь… Легла́ / Лёг! Лежу́.» – then up: «Я встаю́… Вста́л(а)! Стою́.»
- Tell about your family in the morning: «Ма́ма вста́ла. Па́па ещё лежи́т.»
- Wake somebody up: «Встава́й!» 🫳 or politely: «Встава́йте!» 🫵
- Speaking is optional – listening and doing count too.
Can you say it without looking? – Молоде́ц! Go to the tap quiz.
Guess, then tap. 〰️ moving, ✅ done, 📍 there – and he or she? 😊
Хорошо́! Молоде́ц! Two small things left – two minutes.
лёг, встаёт – the two dots of Ё tell you: here is the loud syllable! Ё is always stressed. 💪
- Say it with a stamp: лёг! ✅ – встаёт!
- In books Ё often loses its dots (лег, встает) – but it still sounds «ё».
- 30 seconds, every day. This is aerobics for the tongue.
Tonight in bed say: «Я ложу́сь спать… Легла́ / Лёг!» 😴 – tomorrow morning: «Я встаю́… Вста́ла / Встал!» 🧍
Tomorrow's lesson starts with these two sentences. You already know them – so День 5 starts with a win.
- «Ляг! – Встань!» One person gives the orders, the others do them: «Ложи́сь!» 〰️ · «Ляг!» ✅ · «Встава́й!» 〰️ · «Встань!» ✅. Only on the right word! 😄
- Morning in slow motion. Lie on the sofa and get up very slowly: «Я встаю́… встаю́… встаю́…» – then a stamp: «Встал(а)!»
- He or she? Point at people (or toys) and say: «Он лёг» · «Она́ легла́» · «Они́ легли́». Then: «Он встал» · «Она́ вста́ла».
Remembering a word with the whole body works better than reading it again.
Watch Natasha's video from День 1 again – now you understand much more: she sits down, lies down and gets up on the sofa. Listen for «ложу́сь» and «встаю́». The bar at its top brings you to День 1.
Who gets up early, God gives to him.
The early bird catches the worm. «встаёт» – today's verb, the «он» form. 🤸 Gesture: jump up from your chair on «встаёт», open your hands like getting a present on «даёт».
Read every line aloud, slowly. Every word is one you know. Tap a word to check. ✋
встава́ть, встать, стоя́ть – one root: ста- · оста́новка – a bus stop: where the bus stands 🚌 · ста́вить – to stand something up (День 6)
Just look and smile – you don't have to learn these now. 😊
Ве́чер. Я ложу́сь спать… Легла́! Я лежу́. – Я ложу́сь… Лёг! Лежу́. – У́тро! Я встаю́… Вста́ла! Я стою́. Ри́чард, встава́й! – Я встаю́… встаю́… – Я лёг! – Ска́ффлз, ты не лёг – ты легла́! Ты ко́шка! – Я легла́… и лежу́. И не встаю́! – Мя́у!
Evening. I am going to bed… I lay down! I am lying. – I am lying down… I lay down! I'm lying. – Morning! I am getting up… I got up! I am standing. Richard, get up! – I'm getting up… getting up… – I lay down! (Scuffles's mistake: the «he» form) – Scuffles, not «лёг» – «легла́»! You are a she-cat! – I lay down… and I'm lying here. And I'm not getting up! – Miaow!
- 🛌 〰️ ложи́ться – ✅ лечь – 📍 лежа́ть
- 🧍 〰️ встава́ть – ✅ встать – 📍 стоя́ть
- ложи́ться: я ложу́сь, ты ложи́шься, он ложи́тся… · лечь: лёг, легла́, легли́ (future я ля́гу)
- встава́ть: я встаю́, ты встаёшь, он встаёт… (no -ва- in the present!) · встать: встал, вста́ла, вста́ли (future я вста́ну)
- Commands: Ложи́сь! Ляг! · Встава́й! Встань! (+ -те for вы)
ЛО́НДОН – the stress is on the first syllable, as in English. But Russians say a real, round о: LON-d’n, not LUN-dun. The second о comes after the stress, so it is short and weak (like the a in sofa).
ТЕЛЕФО́Н – not like the English TEL-ih-fohn: the stress is on the last syllable: ti-li-FON (е without stress sounds like a short и). That is why we mark the stress.
🎯 Why does о sound like а?
English speakers mix up lie and lay – so do Russians! Many Russians say «я ложу́ кни́гу» – but that is wrong. «Я ложу́сь» (I lie down) ✔ is fine – with -сь. What do you do with a book? Tomorrow Scuffles makes this mistake, and you will learn the right word. 😄
🔬 Почему́ так · Why this way
- A win in the first minute. Yesterday's three (сади́ться – сесть – сиде́ть) comes back as the warm-up, before the two new threes.
- The same pattern, twice. Two new threes follow the same gestures – the student recognises the pattern instead of learning six separate verbs (Ellis 2002, frequency and patterns).
- Natalia's colours for he / she. лёг in blue, легла́ in pink – the past endings of Курс 2 are seen, not only heard (design-rules.md).
- The body does the verb. Lying down and getting up while saying the verb: Macedonia · Knösche 2011.
- The cat makes the mistakes. Scuffles says «Я лёг!» – a she-cat with the «he» ending. The student laughs and is never the one who is wrong.
