Can you do it without the video? – Молоде́ц! Go to the tap quiz.

✔ Прове́рьте себя́ · Check yourself

Guess, then tap. A wrong tap is a guess. 😊

1 😾 Scuffles: «Я люблю́ Пу́шкин!» How is it right?

Я люблю́ ПУ́ШКИНА!
Я люблю́ ПУ́ШКИНУ!
Я люблю́ ПУ́ШКИНОМ!

2 ⛵ «Беле́ет па́рус одино́кий» – who wrote it?

Ле́рмонтов
Пу́шкин
Че́хов

3 🧀 «Воро́на и Лиси́ца» – who wrote it?

Крыло́в
Ле́рмонтов
Пу́шкин

4 🙇 Why «Я вас люби́л», not «тебя́»?

polite and distant – the love is in the past
he loved many people
it is easier to say

5 🧥 «Чья соба́ка?» – the dog of Natasha:

НАТА́ШИНА
НАТА́ШИН
НАТА́ШИНО

Хорошо́! Молоде́ц! Two small things left – two minutes.

🔊 Звук дня · Sound of the day: the sounds of the poets

Say them one after the other – one sound from each day:

  • the beat ДА-да (17): бу́ря мгло́ю · the beat da-ДА (18): я по́мню · soft and hard Л (19): люби́л
  • Ё is stressed (20): орёл · воро́на – во́рон – воро́та (21) · Е = ЙЕ (22): беле́ет · Х (23): хамелео́н
  • Clap on the loud syllable: РУ́С-ска-я КНИ́Ж-на-я ПО́Л-ка 👏👏👏. 30 seconds, every day.
🏠 Дома́шняя рабо́та · Homework – one small thing

Tomorrow a new part begins: styles. Say «hello» three ways – to the boss with a little bow 🙇, to a friend with a wave 👋, to a best friend with a big smile 😄: «Здра́вствуйте!» · «Приве́т!» · «Здоро́во!» – and tell the riddle (in Part 2) to someone at home.
That is the first minute of День 25. You already know it – so День 25 starts with a win.

✔ Часть 1 гото́ва! Part 1 done.
The third part of Курс 4 is done – Pushkin and the poets. 🎉 You read Russian literature in the original! See you tomorrow: День 25 · Здра́вствуйте! – Приве́т! – Здоро́во! ▶
Часть 2 · Е́сли хоти́те · +25 мину́тPart 2 – only if you want more. Nothing here is needed for tomorrow.
🧩 Зага́дка · a riddle · 👂 listen, guess, then open
Не куст, а с листо́чками, не руба́шка, а сши́та, не челове́к, а расска́зывает.
Not a bush, but it has leaves; not a shirt, but it is sewn; not a person, but it tells stories. What is it? 🤔
Tap here for the answer 👇

Кни́га! 📖 – a book. Its pages are «leaves» (листы́, листо́чки), old books were sewn together, and it tells stories.
сши́та – sewn: a «done to it» word, short form (День 4: прочи́тана, закры́та)! 😄
🤸 Жестова́я игра́ · Gesture game

«Кто написа́л?» – who wrote it? – a game for the whole family.

  1. One says a line from this week – the others say the writer: «Беле́ет па́рус одино́кий» – «Ле́рмонтов!» · «Чья соба́ка?» – «Че́хов!»
  2. Show the text. One shows only the gesture (storm 🌨️, cheese 🧀, sail ⛵, coat 🧥, eagle 🦅) – the others say the title.
  3. The bookshelf. Put four books on a chair-shelf. Each person takes one and says: «Я люблю́ Пу́шкина!» – the ending -а every time. 📚
🦉 Посло́вица дня · proverb of the day · 👂 listen and read
Кни́га – ма́ленькое око́шко, че́рез него́ весь мир ви́дно.

A book is a little window – through it you can see the whole world.
An old Russian proverb – and the idea of this part of the course: through four writers you saw old Russia, its winters, its loves, its markets. 📖🪟 🤸 Gesture: open a book in front of your face like a window, look through it.

Пу́шкин – «Бу́ря мгло́ю не́бо кро́ет…» Крыло́в – «Воро́не где́-то Бог посла́л кусо́чек сы́ру…» Ле́рмонтов – «Беле́ет па́рус одино́кий…» Че́хов – «Чья соба́ка?» – Я люблю́ Пу́шкин! – Пу́шкина, Ска́ффлз! (Scuffles's mistake: whom? – Пу́шкина) – «Пу́шкина», Scuffles! I love whom? – Pushkin-a. Like «I love the cat» – кота́. – I love Pushkin! Pushkin wrote «The Sail»! – No, «The Sail» is Lermontov! – And «The Crow and the Fox» is Scuffles! There's cheese in it! – Miaow!

💡 Пра́вило · Rule
  • ★ Повтори́м – День 17–23:
  • Poems have a beat: ДА-да (17) · da-ДА (18). Poem forms: мгло́ю, мгнове́нье.
  • вы / ты carry feelings (19) · за + instrumental, adjective after the noun (20)
  • little sweet words = лесть (21) · colour verbs беле́ть (22) · чей / чья, Ната́шин (23)
  • Я люблю́ Пу́шкина – a person: -а.
ударе́ние – словарь ударе́ние – stress – shows the syllable you say louder and longer, just like in English: LUN-dun (London), TEL-ih-fohn (telephone).

ЛО́НДОН – словарь ЛО́НДОН – the stress is on the first syllable, as in English. But Russians say a real, round о: LON-d’n, not LUN-dun. The second о comes after the stress, so it is short and weak (like the a in sofa).
ТЕЛЕФО́Н – словарь ТЕЛЕФО́Н – not like the English TEL-ih-fohn: the stress is on the last syllable: ti-li-FON (е without stress sounds like a short и). That is why we mark the stress.

The sign is only a help for learners. Russian books don't print it, and you don't write it.
🎯 Why does о sound like а?
😄 Для тех, кто говори́т по-англи́йски · For English speakers

In one week you read Pushkin, Krylov, Lermontov and Chekhov in the original. Many English speakers who study Russian for years never do. Every Russian knows these lines by heart – say one at a Russian dinner table and watch the faces. 😄💪

🔬 Почему́ так · Why this way

  • A review day with no new words. Words met again after a gap of a few days are remembered much better than words met many times in one go – Rogers · Nakata · Chiu 2025.
  • Seven texts side by side. One table with one line and one rule from each text helps the student see the whole week (Schmidt 1990, the noticing hypothesis).
  • Remember first, then check. Reading a week's words alone, then tapping to check, is retrieval practice – Agarwal · Nunes · Blunt 2021.
  • A riddle at the end. A riddle makes the student guess before the answer – guessing first, even wrongly, helps the answer stay (Kornell, Hays · Bjork 2009, the pretesting effect).
  • The cat makes the mistakes. Scuffles says «Я люблю́ Пу́шкин» and gives «Па́рус» to the wrong poet. The student laughs and is never the one who is wrong.
