Russian -ива

When the addition of a prefix to a Russian base verb brings a new meaning and it makes the verb perfective then an extra addition of the suffix -ива makes the verb imperfective with the meanings of duration or continuous repetition of the action:
- закончить → заканчивать finish
and multiplicity or repetition
- говорить → говаривать,
- сидеть → сиживать
