📚 Слова́ дня · Words of the day: none – today we repeat!

· Это повторе́ние. Все слова́ вы уже́ зна́ете.
Stand up! Your homework from День 15: fists up, a big smile – «У меня́ ничего́ не боли́т!» 💪
You remembered it – that is your first win today. Today is a review day – Повтори́м! 🔁
- Don't read anything yet. Listen: what does Richard buy? How many? What does Scuffles buy? What time does the shop close? 👂
- You know магази́н from Курс 1 (День 16) – and every other word too.
Say every word aloud and show it – the gesture is under the picture. 🔁 Old friends – the words of День 9–15, with the gestures you know:
👂 Listen first – then read it. Do the gesture on every line. 🛍️
Сли́нки (sits in the empty shopping bag): Мя́у! 😄
★ Повтори́м – День 9–15. 30 seconds. You know them all:
Say the story aloud – first the seller, then the buyer. 🛍️
Здра́вствуйте! Ско́лько сто́ит огуре́ц? – Два́дцать рубле́й.
Пять огурцо́в, пожа́луйста! – Сто рубле́й. 🥒
У вас есть моро́женое? – Есть! 🍦
Кото́рый час? – Де́вять часо́в. Ве́чер.
Ой! У меня́ боли́т спина́! – Вдыха́ем… выдыха́ем!
👀 and the motto of the review days: Повторе́ние – мать уче́ния! 🔁
- Play the shop: put things on the table. Buyer: «Ско́лько сто́ит?» – seller: «Пять рубле́й!» – buyer: «Я покупа́ю!» 💰
- Ask: «У вас есть моро́женое?» – «Есть!» 🍦
- Look at the clock: «Кото́рый час?» – and say your hour.
- Speaking is optional – listening and doing count too.
Can you do it without the video? – Молоде́ц! Go to the tap quiz.
Guess, then tap. The number or the person decides the end. A wrong tap is a guess. 😊
Хорошо́! Молоде́ц! Two small things left – two minutes.
Повтори́м the soft sounds of День 9–15 – smile 🙂 on every one:
- ть – пять, де́сять · ль – рубль · ч – час, ве́чер · пь – пью, пьёшь
- And the hard ones, lips forward 😗: ж – муж, жена́ · ш – ша́рик, дышу́.
- Soft – hard – soft: пять – муж – рубль. 30 seconds, every day.
Tomorrow a new part begins: yesterday and tomorrow. Get ready – say two things you do every day: «Я пью чай. Я рабо́таю.» ☕💻 – and say the riddle to someone at home (it is in Part 2).
That is the first minute of День 17. You already know it – so День 17 starts with a win.
The second part of Курс 2 is done – numbers, money, real life. 🎉 See you tomorrow: День 17 · Вчера́ я чита́л(а) ▶
Кто его́ раздева́ет, тот слёзы пролива́ет.
«Магази́н» – a game for the whole family.
- The shop. One sells, the others buy: «Ско́лько сто́ит?» – «Два рубля́!» – «Я покупа́ю!» Every buyer needs a different number: 1, 2 or 5 – so all three forms come. 💰
- Gesture → word. Make a gesture – the others say the word: 🖐️ «пять!» · ⌚ «час!» · 🤗 «семья́!» · ☕ «пью!» · 🩺 «до́ктор!» · 🤕 «боли́т!»
- Closing time! Somebody calls: «Де́вять часо́в! Магази́н закрыва́ется!» – everybody runs out with their bag. 🏃 😄
Who bought the potatoes? – Natasha watches her old video and tells a funny shopping story. 🥔
Listen for the numbers and the shop words. Tap the title – the page opens; the bar at its top brings you back here.
Love is not a potato – you can't throw it out of the window.
Richard bought cucumbers today – somebody else bought the potatoes (see the video lesson above). 🥔 🤸 Gesture: hands on your heart on «любо́вь», shake your head on «не карто́шка», throw something out of the window on «не вы́бросишь в око́шко».
Read every word aloud, then tap it to check. Count the words you read! ✋

лук – an onion 🧅 – and also a bow 🏹! Two words that sound the same.
Just look and smile – you don't have to learn these now. 😊

ЛО́НДОН – the stress is on the first syllable, as in English. But Russians say a real, round о: LON-d’n, not LUN-dun. The second о comes after the stress, so it is short and weak (like the a in sofa).
ТЕЛЕФО́Н – not like the English TEL-ih-fohn: the stress is on the last syllable: ti-li-FON (е without stress sounds like a short и). That is why we mark the stress.
🎯 Why does о sound like а?
In a Russian shop you often pay at the ка́сса first, get a receipt (a чек 🧾) and then collect your things – the old Soviet way, still alive in some markets.
Seven days, 22 words – and you can count to 20, buy, order coffee, tell the time and see the doctor. That is real life! 🛍️
🔬 Почему́ так · Why this way
- A review day with no new words. Words met again after a gap of a few days are remembered much better than words met many times in one go – Rogers · Nakata · Chiu 2025.
- One story with everything. The shop brings the numbers, money, the café, the clock, the family and the doctor into one scene – words used together in a situation are easier to recall.
- Remember first, then check. Reading seven days' words alone, then tapping to check, is retrieval practice – Agarwal · Nunes · Blunt 2021.
- A riddle at the end. Guessing before the answer – even wrongly – helps the answer stay (Kornell, Hays · Bjork 2009, the pretesting effect).
- The cat makes the mistakes. Scuffles says «два рубле́й». The student laughs and is never the one who is wrong.
