День 15 из 32: До́ктор, у меня́ боли́т!
📚 Слова́ дня · Words of the day: 3 – до́ктор, боли́т, живо́т (and the body words of Курс 1: голова́, рука́, нога́, у́хо, глаз).
🗣️ Say it as one piece: «У меня́ боли́т голова́.» · «Что у вас боли́т?» · and for two: «У меня́ боля́т но́ги.»
⏱ Part 1 = 15 minutes – everybody finishes it. Part 2 = more, only if you want. · 🗺️ All days
Your homework from День 14. Stand up, three times: «Вдыха́ем… и выдыха́ем!» 🙆🙇
You know it – that is your first win today. And today the doctor will say it to you. 🩺
- Don't read anything yet. Listen: what hurts Richard? What does the doctor say? What hurts Scuffles? 👂
- Listen: у меня́ боли́т – the «у меня́» of yesterday's family day. «At me hurts the back.»
Say every word aloud and show it – the gesture is under the picture. Tap a word or its picture – the dictionary opens. 🔊 = listen.
- У меня́ боли́т + the place: голова́ 🤕, спина́, живо́т, у́хо, рука́, нога́.
- Two or more – боля́т: у меня́ боля́т но́ги, у меня́ боля́т глаза́. 👀
- Ничего́ не боли́т! – nothing hurts! 💪
👂 Listen first. Show where it hurts on every line. 🤕
🌱 The seed of the day: one thing hurts – боли́т, more than one – боля́т. Like он ды́шит – они́ ды́шат (День 14).
Say every line aloud, and show the place.
До́ктор, у меня́ боли́т голова́. 🤕
У меня́ боли́т спина́. У меня́ боли́т живо́т.
У меня́ боля́т но́ги. 🦵🦵
Что у вас боли́т? 🩺
Вдыха́ем… выдыха́ем! Хорошо́.
У меня́ ничего́ не боли́т! 💪
- Play the doctor with someone (or with a teddy): «Что у вас боли́т?» 🩺 – «У меня́ боли́т живо́т!»
- Show the place and say it: голова́, спина́, у́хо, нога́ – «У меня́ боли́т …»
- End with a smile and fists up: «У меня́ ничего́ не боли́т!» 💪
- Speaking is optional – listening and doing count too.
Can you say it without looking? – Молоде́ц! Go to the tap quiz.
Guess, then tap. One thing or more? A wrong tap is a guess. 😊
Хорошо́! Молоде́ц! Two small things left – two minutes.
О is a real «о» only when it is loud.
- до́ктор – the first о is loud: до́. The second is quiet – it sounds almost like a short «ъ»: «до́ктър».
- голова́ – only the last syllable is loud, so the о's sound like а: «галава́».
- боли́т – «бали́т». Listen and copy – don't read letter by letter. 30 seconds, every day.
Tomorrow morning, fists up and a big smile: «У меня́ ничего́ не боли́т!» 💪 (and if something hurts – say what!)
That is the first minute of День 16 – the review day. You already know it – so День 16 starts with a win.
- Doctor, doctor! One is the doctor: «Что у вас боли́т?» – the patient shows and says: «У меня́ боли́т у́хо!» 👂 The doctor: «Вдыха́ем… выдыха́ем!» Then swap.
- Touch and say. Somebody says a body word – everybody touches it: «Голова́!» 🤕 «Живо́т!» «Спина́!» «Но́ги!» – faster and faster.
- Боли́т – боля́т. One finger up – «у меня́ боли́т рука́»; two fingers – «у меня́ боля́т ру́ки». ☝️✌️
Doctor, I have a problem! – a patient who can't hear well… but hears «обе́д» (lunch) at once. 😄
Tap the title – the page opens; the bar at its top brings you back here.
Health is worth more than money.
де́нег – the money of День 10, in the «more than» form. And здоро́вье is the root of «здра́вствуйте» (День 1) – «be healthy!» 🤸 Gesture: fists up, strong, on «здоро́вье», push the coins away on «доро́же де́нег».
Read every line aloud, slowly. Every word is one you know. Tap a word to check. ✋
🙌 Today's words: ДО́КТОР · БОЛИ́Т · БОЛЯ́Т · ЖИВО́Т · У МЕНЯ́ БОЛИ́Т
У Ри́чарда боли́т спина́.
Ната́ша – до́ктор. «Что у вас боли́т?»
У Ска́ффлз боля́т ла́пы. 🐾
А у Сли́нки ничего́ не боли́т. Она́ спит.
А у вас? У вас ничего́ не боли́т? Молоде́ц! 💪
до́ктор ← Latin doctor = a teacher! · the everyday Russian word is врач 🩺
Just look and smile – you don't have to learn these now. 😊
Oh! My back hurts! – Richard, does your head hurt? – No, my head doesn't hurt. My back hurts! – Hello! I'm the doctor. What hurts? – Doctor, my back hurts. And my tummy. – Breathe in… breathe out! Good. – Doctor! My paws hurts! (Scuffles's mistake) – No, Scuffles! One paw – hurts. Two paws – hurt. – Grrr… My paws hurt. – And nothing hurts Slinky. – Purr…
- У меня́ боли́т + one thing: голова́, спина́, живо́т.
- У меня́ боля́т + more: но́ги, ру́ки, глаза́.
- Что у вас боли́т? – What hurts? (the doctor's question)
- У меня́ ничего́ не боли́т. – Nothing hurts.
ЛО́НДОН – the stress is on the first syllable, as in English. But Russians say a real, round о: LON-d’n, not LUN-dun. The second о comes after the stress, so it is short and weak (like the a in sofa).
ТЕЛЕФО́Н – not like the English TEL-ih-fohn: the stress is on the last syllable: ti-li-FON (е without stress sounds like a short и). That is why we mark the stress.
🎯 Why does о sound like а?
English says «my head hurts» – the head is the subject. Russian says «у меня́ боли́т голова́» – «at me hurts the head». Same idea as «у меня́ есть» (День 13). 🤕
In a Russian polyclinic you first go to the терапе́вт – the GP. 🏥
🔬 Почему́ так · Why this way
- A sentence for real need. «У меня́ боли́т…» is one of the first sentences a visitor really needs. It reuses «у меня́» from yesterday, so it costs almost nothing new.
- The body words come back. голова́, рука́, нога́, у́хо, глаз from Курс 1 return with a new job – spaced returns: Rogers · Nakata · Chiu 2025.
- Show the place. Touching the body part while saying it ties the word to a movement: Macedonia · Knösche 2011.
- The cat makes the mistakes. Scuffles says «боли́т ла́пы». The student laughs and is never the one who is wrong.
