★ The future. 30 seconds. One helper verb – бу́ду – with the ends of family 1 (День 4). Then any verb, as in the dictionary:

The verb after бу́ду never changes – only бу́ду does the work. Scuffles says «бу́ду ем» – you don't. 😄

У in бу́ду – lips round and far forward, like a whistle 😗 – much rounder than English oo.

  • бу́ - ду – both у are round; the first is loud and long.
  • бу́ду, бу́дешь, бу́дут – push the lips out on every у.

  • The verb after бу́ду stays as it is: бу́ду чита́ть, бу́дем пить.
  • The time line: вчера́ (чита́л) 👈 · сего́дня (чита́ю) 👇 · за́втра (бу́ду чита́ть) 👉
ударе́ние – словарь ударе́ние – stress – shows the syllable you say louder and longer, just like in English: LUN-dun (London), TEL-ih-fohn (telephone).

ЛО́НДОН – словарь ЛО́НДОН – the stress is on the first syllable, as in English. But Russians say a real, round о: LON-d’n, not LUN-dun. The second о comes after the stress, so it is short and weak (like the a in sofa).
ТЕЛЕФО́Н – словарь ТЕЛЕФО́Н – not like the English TEL-ih-fohn: the stress is on the last syllable: ti-li-FON (е without stress sounds like a short и). That is why we mark the stress.

The sign is only a help for learners. Russian books don't print it, and you don't write it.
🎯 Why does о sound like а?

Russian «бу́ду чита́ть» = English «will read» – a helper word + the verb. The same idea! 😄 And English be and Russian быть, бу́ду are old cousins. 👪
Three tenses – done: чита́л · чита́ю · бу́ду чита́ть. English has a dozen. Russian has three. 🎉

🔬 Почему́ так · Why this way

  • The future right after the past. With вчера́ (День 17) and за́втра (today) the student has the whole time line in four days – and sees how simple Russian time is.
  • Old ends, new verb. бу́ду, бу́дешь… has the family-1 ends of День 4 – nothing new to learn but one word.
  • A line on the floor. Walking from yesterday to tomorrow ties each tense to a place in space: Macedonia · Knösche 2011.
  • The cat makes the mistakes. The student laughs and is never the one who is wrong.
