«Вчера́ – сего́дня – за́втра» – a game for the whole family.
- The time line on the floor. Three papers: ВЧЕРА́ · СЕГО́ДНЯ · ЗА́ВТРА. Somebody names a verb – «пить!» – you jump on a paper and say it in that tense: «Вчера́ я пил(а́)!» · «Сего́дня я пью!» · «За́втра я бу́ду пить!» ☕
- Scuffles's mix-up. Somebody says a wrong sentence on purpose: «Вчера́ я бу́ду спать!» – everybody shouts «Нет, Ска́ффлз!» and says it right. 😄

ударе́ние – stress – shows the syllable you say louder and longer, just like in English: LUN-dun (London), TEL-ih-fohn (telephone).
ЛО́НДОН – the stress is on the first syllable, as in English. But Russians say a real, round о: LON-d’n, not LUN-dun. The second о comes after the stress, so it is short and weak (like the a in sofa).
ТЕЛЕФО́Н – not like the English TEL-ih-fohn: the stress is on the last syllable: ti-li-FON (е without stress sounds like a short и). That is why we mark the stress.
🎯 Why does о sound like а?
Three tenses – done! English has about twelve (I read, I am reading, I have read, I had been reading…). Russian has three – and a trick for the rest, which comes next week: doing or done. 😄

- A review day with no new words. Words met again after a gap of a few days are remembered much better than words met many times in one go – Rogers · Nakata · Chiu 2025.
- All three tenses in one story. Past, present and future side by side make the differences easy to see (Schmidt 1990, the noticing hypothesis).
- Remember first, then check. Reading seven days' words alone, then tapping to check, is retrieval practice – Agarwal · Nunes · Blunt 2021.
- A riddle at the end. Guessing before the answer – even wrongly – helps the answer stay (Kornell, Hays · Bjork 2009, the pretesting effect).
- The cat makes the mistakes. The student laughs and is never the one who is wrong.
