In Курс 1 you stood up. In Курс 2 you started moving: verbs, yesterday and tomorrow, «doing» and «done». Now we spread our wings: where things are, where we go, and how Russian builds its words. 🤸

«Вчера́ я сде́лал(а)…, за́втра я сде́лаю…» – for example: «Вчера́ я прочита́л(а) письмо́. За́втра я напишу́ отве́т.»
You can still do it – that is your first win of Course 3. ✅
- Tap a word and listen. Then do it: sit – stand – lie (or put your head on your hands, like on a pillow).
- These verbs say where something is and how: a person sits, stands or lies. Russian asks где? – the answer has the ending -е from Курс 1: на дива́не, на сту́ле, на полу́.

Three verbs of position (глаго́лы положе́ния): сиде́ть 🪑 – стоя́ть 🧍 – лежа́ть 🛌. Today: the state – where you are now. How you get there (сади́ться, встава́ть, ложи́ться) comes on День 3 and 4.

🌱 The seed of the day: где? – на дива́не, на сту́ле, на окне́. A person (or a cat!) сиди́т, стои́т, лежи́т somewhere. Natasha's logic for these verbs comes on День 3.

- Sit down: Я сижу́. Stand up: Я стою́. Put your head on your hands: Я лежу́.
- Where is your cat, your bag, your phone? Ко́шка лежи́т на дива́не. (or on the floor – на полу́).
- Ask someone (or the mirror): Вы сиди́те и́ли стои́те?
- Speaking is optional – listening and doing count too.

Хорошо́! Молоде́ц! Two small things left – two minutes.
ЛЕЖУ́ has the letter Ж – the sound of a bee: ж-ж-ж. 🐝 It is always hard, even before Е and И: лежу́, лежи́т sounds like «лежы́т».
- Buzz like a bee: ж-ж-ж. Then: ле-жу́ – ле-жи́т – ле-жа́ть.
- сижу́ has Ж too: си-жу́ – the same hard buzz.
- 30 seconds, every day. This is aerobics for the tongue.
Tomorrow morning, look round your room and say where three things or people are: «Я сижу́ на сту́ле. Ко́шка лежи́т на дива́не. Ча́шка…» – what does a cup do? Guess! The answer is on День 2.
That is the first minute of День 2. You already know most of it – so День 2 starts with a win.
- Word → body. Someone says the word – you do it: «Сижу́!» 🪑 · «Стою́!» 🧍 · «Лежу́!» 🛌. Faster and faster.
- Встаём! Сади́тесь! – Natasha's game from Курс 1. Stand up on «Встаём!», sit down on «Сади́тесь!». The one who stands at the wrong time says «Не засыпа́йте!» 😄
- Who is where? Point and say: «Ри́чард сиди́т. Ко́шка лежи́т. Я стою́.»

- сиде́ть, стоя́ть, лежа́ть – where someone is and how: sitting, standing, lying. The question is где? → на дива́не, на сту́ле (-е, Курс 1).
- сижу́, сиди́шь, сиди́т… – the -ишь family of Курс 2 (like говори́ть). Only «я» is special: сиде́ть → сижу́ (д → ж).
- стою́, стои́шь… · лежу́, лежи́шь… – also the -ишь family.
- «Не засыпа́йте!» – a command with -йте, like «Сади́тесь!» and «Встава́йте!». Today just say it; how you get into a position comes on День 3–4.
ударе́ние – stress – shows the syllable you say louder and longer, just like in English: LUN-dun (London), TEL-ih-fohn (telephone).
ЛО́НДОН – the stress is on the first syllable, as in English. But Russians say a real, round о: LON-d’n, not LUN-dun. The second о comes after the stress, so it is short and weak (like the a in sofa).
ТЕЛЕФО́Н – not like the English TEL-ih-fohn: the stress is on the last syllable: ti-li-FON (е without stress sounds like a short и). That is why we mark the stress.
🎯 Why does о sound like а?
In English a book is on the table. In Russian it lies there: «Кни́га лежи́т на столе́». A cup stands: «Ча́шка стои́т на столе́». Russians see every thing as sitting, standing or lying – tomorrow you will see it too. 😄
🔬 Почему́ так · Why this way
- A win in the first minute. Course 3 starts with Course 2's homework – a sentence the student can already say. Remembering yesterday's work without looking is one of the best-proven tools: Agarwal · Nunes · Blunt 2021.
- The state first, the movement later. Today only сиде́ть – стоя́ть – лежа́ть (where you are). Natasha's three – movement → result → state (сади́ться – сесть – сиде́ть) – comes on День 3, when the student already owns the state.
- Old chunks come back. «Встаём! Сади́тесь!» were heard in Курс 1 as ready phrases; now they get their system. Every form is met 3–4 times before its ★ rule.
- The body does the verb. Sitting, standing and lying while saying the word ties the word to the movement: Macedonia · Knösche 2011.
- The cat makes the mistakes. Scuffles lies down and says «Я сижу́!» – the student laughs and is never the one who is wrong.
