  • …то был бы не рот, а це́лый огоро́д! 🥕 – «…it would be not a mouth, but a whole vegetable garden!»
  • Ы, Ы, Ы: бы, кабы́, грибы́, был бы – slowly first, then faster. 30 seconds. This is aerobics for the tongue.

Пух! 🪶 – down, a tiny soft feather.
It is light – легко́ подни́мешь; but the air stops it – далеко́ не забро́сишь. A bird's wing is full of it – for the day of «кры́лья»! 🕊️ And a riddle has two halves joined by но – a long sentence too. 💬
🤸 Жестова́я игра́ · Gesture game

«Расправля́ем кры́лья» – a game for the whole family.

  1. The long-sentence chain. The leader starts: «Я иду́ в магази́н…» – the next adds «…что́бы купи́ть хлеб…» – the next «…потому́ что я голо́дный…» – the next «…и е́сли пойдёт дождь, я возьму́ зо́нтик!» Who can make it longer? 💬
  2. Clap the word. The leader says a long sentence – everybody claps 👏 on the long-sentence word.
  3. Fly! Everybody spreads their arms: «Е́сли бы у меня́ бы́ли кры́лья, я бы полете́л(а) в…» – and «flies» there across the room. 🕊️

💡 Пра́вило · Rule
  • ★ Повтори́м – День 33–39:
  • потому́ что + sentence – because (33)
  • е́сли + future – if (34)
  • что́бы + dictionary form – in order to (35)
  • кото́рый / -ая / -ое / -ые – who, which (36)
  • зна́ю, что / где / когда́ – no «?» (37)
  • е́сли бы … бы + past – a dream (38)
  • когда́ + past – a story (39)
ударе́ние – словарь ударе́ние – stress – shows the syllable you say louder and longer, just like in English: LUN-dun (London), TEL-ih-fohn (telephone).

ЛО́НДОН – словарь ЛО́НДОН – the stress is on the first syllable, as in English. But Russians say a real, round о: LON-d’n, not LUN-dun. The second о comes after the stress, so it is short and weak (like the a in sofa).
ТЕЛЕФО́Н – словарь ТЕЛЕФО́Н – not like the English TEL-ih-fohn: the stress is on the last syllable: ti-li-FON (е without stress sounds like a short и). That is why we mark the stress.

The sign is only a help for learners. Russian books don't print it, and you don't write it.
🎯 Why does о sound like а?
😄 Для тех, кто говори́т по-англи́йски · For English speakers

Look how far you have flown: in Курс 3 you learned to say where things are (лежи́т, стои́т), how you move (иду́ / хожу́), to read prefixes and roots – and now to join sentences like a Russian. English speakers who reach this point can read simple Russian books and chat with Russian friends. 🕊️ Молоде́ц!

🔬 Почему́ так · Why this way

  • A review day with no new words. Words met again after a gap of a few days are remembered much better than words met many times in one go – Rogers · Nakata · Chiu 2025.
  • All the link words side by side. One table of what comes after each word – easier to tell apart (Schmidt 1990, the noticing hypothesis).
  • Remember first, then check. Reading a week's words alone, then tapping to check, is retrieval practice – Agarwal · Nunes · Blunt 2021.
  • The five promises. The student checks the goals of День 1 – seeing how far they have come keeps them going (Bandura 1997, self-efficacy).
  • A riddle. Guessing first helps the answer stay (Kornell, Hays · Bjork 2009, the pretesting effect).
  • The cat makes the mistakes. Scuffles wants to fly into the fridge – the student laughs and is never the one who is wrong.
