Russian ты
Russian nouns are replaced by the personal pronouns depending on the established gender and number.
ВЫ vs ТЫ[edit]
When referring to one person вы is used:
- When a child or a teenager addresses an adult
- Sometimes when an adult teenagers a teenager
- Between adults of the same age and the same status
- When referring to someone older than you
If you use ты in a public place instead of вы it can be taken for an insult. It’s always better to ask before start using ты.
Ты is used:
- Between friends and family
- Between children and teenagers
- When you address children, teenagers (sometimes), nature, animals and God
