ВЫ vs ТЫ[edit]

When referring to one person вы is used:

  • When a child or a teenager addresses an adult
  • Sometimes when an adult teenagers a teenager
  • Between adults of the same age and the same status
  • When referring to someone older than you

If you use ты in a public place instead of вы it can be taken for an insult. It’s always better to ask before start using ты.

Ты is used:

  • Between friends and family
  • Between children and teenagers
  • When you address children, teenagers (sometimes), nature, animals and God
