День 39 из 40: Перево́дим уро́к
📚 Слова́ дня · Words of the day: 3 – уро́к, помо́щник, на … язы́к.
🗣️ Глаго́л дня · Verb of the day: перевести́ – «Я переведу́ уро́к на мой язы́к» – I will translate (✅)
⏱ Part 1 = 15 minutes – everybody finishes it. Part 2 = more, only if you want. · 🗺️ All days
Your homework from День 38: День 1's line in your language:
«Высоко́ сижу́ – далеко́ гляжу́!» – 🌍 «…»
You remembered it – that is your first win today. Today you translate a whole little lesson – and become a helper of WikiTranslate.
- Tap and listen. Then do it: move the lesson from one hand to the other ⚽ – then point at yourself: мой язык.
- переводи́ть / перевести́ на + language: на англи́йский, на францу́зский, на ваш язы́к. Richard translates the lessons на англи́йский – that is his work on WikiTranslate. 📒
Say every word aloud and show it – the gesture is under the picture. Tap a word or its picture – the dictionary opens. 🔊 = listen.
уро́к – a lesson: open a book, look up – «today we…» 📖 · помо́щник – a helper: give somebody a hand 🤝
👂 Listen first. Move the lesson across ⚽ on every «
🌍 Translate a lesson – four steps
1. Прочита́йте – read it all first 📖 · 2. Пойми́те – understand every line (dictionary, the English, День 1–38) 💡
3. Переведи́те смысл – not word for word (День 37): names stay (Ска́ффлз = Scuffles), jokes stay jokes, a Russian proverb gets your language's twin (День 38) ⚽
4. Прове́рьте – read it aloud; give it to a friend: does it sound like your language? 🤝
переводи́ть на + accusative: на англи́йский, на ваш язы́к · с + genitive: с ру́сского – from Russian.
🌱 The seed of the day: you started as a student – now you can be a helper. Tomorrow – the last day: check the five promises of День 1. 🎓
Say the four steps aloud – one finger for each.
Прочита́йте. 📖☝️
Пойми́те. 💡✌️
Переведи́те смысл. ⚽🤟
Прове́рьте. 🤝🖐️
Я переведу́ уро́к с ру́сского на мой язы́к! 🌍
- Translate the little text of День 1 («Ска́ффлз, где ты? – …») into your language – in the box below. ✍️🌍
- Read your translation aloud. Does it sound like your language? Then it's good. 👍
- Speaking is optional – writing counts too.
Can you do it without looking? – Молоде́ц! Go to the tap quiz.
Guess, then tap. A wrong tap is a guess. 😊
Хорошо́! Молоде́ц! Two small things left – two minutes.
ЯЗЫ́К sounds «йизы́к»: Я before the stress is weak – «йи».
- язы́к «йизы́к» · пяти́ «пити́» · ряды́ «риды́» · тяжёлый «тижо́лый».
- переведу́ – four syllables, the stress at the end: пе-ре-ве-ДУ́.
- Clap on the loud syllable: я-ЗЫ́К 👏 · у-РО́К 👏 · по-МО́Щ-ник 👏. 30 seconds, every day.
Tomorrow is the last day of Курс 4. Stand on a step or by a chair, hand up ☝️, hand above your eyes 🫡 – the line of День 1, in «мы»: «Высоко́ сиди́м – далеко́ гляди́м!» – and tell the riddle (in Part 2) to someone at home.
That is the first minute of День 40. You already know it – so День 40 starts with a win.
You may stop here – see you tomorrow: День 40 · Высоко́ сиди́м – далеко́ гляди́м! ▶
- Translation relay. One reads a Russian line from День 1 – the next translates it into English – the next back into Russian. Does it come back the same? 😄
- На какой язык? Point at a flag (or a country on a map) – the others say: «на англи́йский!» · «на францу́зский!» · «на испа́нский!» · «на коша́чий!» 😼
- Four fingers. Show 1, 2, 3, 4 fingers – the others say the step: «
Write your translation in your notebook. Richard's English is in the «Text» box of День 1 – compare them after you finish. If you have an account on WikiTranslate, ask Natasha how to add your language. 🌍
Whoever wants to know a lot must sleep little.
Learning takes time – but you are nearly at the end of Курс 4! 🌙📚 And Slinky? She sleeps a lot – and knows a lot too. 😴 🤸 Gesture: open a book, yawn, open it again.
Read the День 1 text in the box above aloud – then translate one line at a time. ✋
🙌 Today's words: УРО́К · ПОМО́ЩНИК · НА … ЯЗЫ́К
Can you still find Scuffles's mistake of День 1? (гляди́т → гляжу́) – And how will you show it in your language? A translator keeps the joke. 😼
язы́к – a tongue; a language · языково́й – language (adj.) · многоязы́чный – multilingual – like WikiTranslate! 🌍
Just look and smile – you don't have to learn these now. 😊
I translate the lessons into English. That's my work! – I'm translating the lesson «в» cat language! (Scuffles's mistake: на + language) – «На» cat language, Scuffles! You translate «на» a language: into English, into Russian, into Cat. – Miaow miaow miaow! That's «High I sit – far I see»! – And where is the translation of «cheese»? – «MIAOW!» Loudly. Slinky is lying on the keyboard. The translation is ready: «ffffffff».
- переводи́ть с + genitive на + accusative: с ру́сского на англи́йский.
- Four steps: прочита́йте – пойми́те – переведи́те смысл – прове́рьте.
- Names stay, jokes stay jokes, proverbs get your language's twin.
ЛО́НДОН – the stress is on the first syllable, as in English. But Russians say a real, round о: LON-d’n, not LUN-dun. The second о comes after the stress, so it is short and weak (like the a in sofa).
ТЕЛЕФО́Н – not like the English TEL-ih-fohn: the stress is on the last syllable: ti-li-FON (е without stress sounds like a short и). That is why we mark the stress.
🎯 Why does о sound like а?
Richard translates every Russian lesson of WikiTranslate into English – so the English page you read is his work. 📒 Now you can do the same for your language: Spanish, French, German, Chinese… Every new language opens the course to new people. 🌍
🔬 Почему́ так · Why this way
- Yesterday's homework first. Remembering without looking is one of the best-proven tools: Agarwal · Nunes · Blunt 2021.
- Learning by teaching. Students who prepare material for others learn it more deeply (Fiorella · Mayer 2013, the learning-by-teaching effect).
- A real task. Translating a real lesson for real readers gives the work a purpose beyond the course (Ellis 2003, task-based learning).
- The cat makes the mistakes. Scuffles says it wrong – the student laughs and is never the one who is wrong.
