Со́лнце! ☀️ – the sun. It is higher than everything – it sits высоко́ and sees далеко́. The last riddle of Курс 4 is about the first words of Курс 4. ☝️🫡
вы́ше, краси́вее – «higher, more beautiful»: the comparative (выше ← высо́кий, День 1!).

ударе́ние – stress – shows the syllable you say louder and longer, just like in English: LUN-dun (London), TEL-ih-fohn (telephone).
ЛО́НДОН – the stress is on the first syllable, as in English. But Russians say a real, round о: LON-d’n, not LUN-dun. The second о comes after the stress, so it is short and weak (like the a in sofa).
ТЕЛЕФО́Н – not like the English TEL-ih-fohn: the stress is on the last syllable: ti-li-FON (е without stress sounds like a short и). That is why we mark the stress.
🎯 Why does о sound like а?
Four courses: you stood up, started moving, spread your wings – and now you sit high and see far. You read Pushkin and Chekhov, you know which «hello» to say, you can write a letter and translate a proverb. That is the level where Russian stops being a school subject and becomes a language you live in. 🕊️☝️🫡 Молоде́ц!
🔬 Почему́ так · Why this way
- A review day with no new words. Words met again after a gap of a few days are remembered much better than words met many times in one go – Rogers · Nakata · Chiu 2025.
- The whole course in one table. Five parts side by side show the student how far they have come (Schmidt 1990, the noticing hypothesis).
- Remember first, then check. Reading a week's words alone, then tapping to check, is retrieval practice – Agarwal · Nunes · Blunt 2021.
- The five promises. The student checks the goals of День 1 – seeing how far they have come keeps them going (Bandura 1997, self-efficacy).
- A riddle. Guessing first helps the answer stay (Kornell, Hays · Bjork 2009, the pretesting effect).
- The cat makes the mistakes. Scuffles makes the mistake of День 1 again – the student laughs, and sees how easy it is now.
