День 12 из 32: Кото́рый час?
📚 Слова́ дня · Words of the day: 3 – час, мину́та, ве́чер (and у́тро from Курс 1).
🗣️ Say it as one piece: «Кото́рый час?» · «Семь часо́в.» · «Я встаю́!» · «Ещё пять мину́т…»
⏱ Part 1 = 15 minutes – everybody finishes it. Part 2 = more, only if you want. · 🗺️ All days
Your homework from День 11. Your cup to your lips: «Я пью чай.» ☕ And ask: «Ты пьёшь ко́фе?»
You know it – that is your first win today. And look up: every day says «15 мину́т» – today you learn what it means. ⏱
- Don't read anything yet. Listen: what time does Natasha get up? What does Richard want? When does Slinky sleep? 👂
- Listen: семь часо́в – the same «-ов» as пять огурцо́в (День 9)!
Say every word aloud and show it – the gesture is under the picture. Tap a word or its picture – the dictionary opens. 🔊 = listen.
- час after numbers, like огуре́ц: оди́н час · два часа́ · пять часо́в.
- пять мину́т, пятна́дцать мину́т – just say it as one piece. ⏱
- у́тро → ве́чер – morning → evening. «До́брое у́тро!» – «До́брый ве́чер!»
👂 Listen first. Tap your wrist on every «час». ⌚
- Ната́ша: У́тро! Кото́рый час? – Семь часо́в. Я встаю́! 🙆
- Ри́чард (under the pillow): Ещё пять мину́т… 😴
🌱 The seed of the day: the three forms of День 9 tell the time too – оди́н час, два часа́, пять часо́в.
Say every line aloud, with the gestures.
Кото́рый час? ⌚
Оди́н час. Два часа́. Пять часо́в.
У́тро. Семь часо́в. Я встаю́! 🙆
Ещё пять мину́т… 😴
Ве́чер. Де́сять часо́в. Споко́йной но́чи! 🌙
- Look at your clock: «Кото́рый час?» – say the hour: «Де́вять часо́в!» ⏰
- Pillow on your head: «Ещё пять мину́т…» 😴 – then jump up: «Я встаю́!»
- Say goodnight to the cat: «Ве́чер. Споко́йной но́чи!» 🌙
- Speaking is optional – listening and doing count too.
Can you say it without looking? – Молоде́ц! Go to the tap quiz.
Guess, then tap. The number decides the end. A wrong tap is a guess. 😊
Хорошо́! Молоде́ц! Two small things left – two minutes.
Ч in час is always soft – softer than English ch.
- Smile 🙂, lips a little forward: ч-ч-ч – like a quiet train: чух-чух! 🚂
- час, ча́шка, чай, ве́чер – the same soft ч everywhere.
- After ч the letter а still sounds а: час, not «чяс». 30 seconds, every day.
Tomorrow when you get up, look at the clock: «Кото́рый час? – Семь часо́в. Я встаю́!» 🙆 (your own hour, of course)
That is the first minute of День 13. You already know it – so День 13 starts with a win.
- The human clock. Your arms are the hands of a clock. Somebody says «Три часа́!» – you show it with your arms. ⏰ Then «Шесть часо́в!», «Двена́дцать часо́в!»
- Morning – evening. «У́тро!» – arms up, stretch, «Я встаю́!» 🙆 · «Ве́чер!» – hands come down slowly, yawn, «Споко́йной но́чи!» 🌙
- Five more minutes. Lie on the sofa: «Ещё пять мину́т…» – somebody rings like an alarm: «Дзынь!» – jump up! 😄
What time is it? – the other way to ask, and the clock: «Кото́рый сейча́с час?»

The morning is wiser than the evening. – Sleep on it.
In Russian fairy tales the hero is told this before a hard task – and in the morning everything is easy. 🌅 Today's ве́чер and Курс 1's у́тро. 🤸 Gesture: arms up on «у́тро», hands slowly down on «ве́чера», a finger to your temple on «мудрене́е».
Read every line aloud, slowly. Every word is one you know. Tap a word to check. ✋
🙌 Today's words: ЧАС · ЧАСО́В · МИНУ́Т · ВЕ́ЧЕР · КОТО́РЫЙ ЧАС?
У́тро. Кото́рый час? Семь часо́в.
Ната́ша встаёт. Ри́чард спит: «Ещё пять мину́т…»
Ска́ффлз счита́ет: оди́н час, два часа́, семь часо́в!
Ве́чер. Де́сять часо́в. Споко́йной но́чи! 🌙
мину́та → «Мину́тку!» – just a moment! ☝️
Just look and smile – you don't have to learn these now. 😊
У́тро! Кото́рый час? – Семь часо́в. Я встаю́! – Ещё пять мину́т… – Ри́чард! Семь часо́в! Ты рабо́таешь! – Семь час! – Нет, Ска́ффлз! Оди́н час, два часа́… семь часо́в. – Р-р-р… Семь часо́в. – А Сли́нки спит у́тром, днём и ве́чером. – Мур-р… – Ве́чер. Де́сять часо́в. Споко́йной но́чи!
Morning! What time is it? – Seven o'clock. I'm getting up! – Five more minutes… – Richard! Seven o'clock! You're working (today)! – Seven hour! (Scuffles's mistake) – No, Scuffles! One o'clock, two o'clock… seven o'clock. – Grrr… Seven o'clock. – And Slinky sleeps in the morning, in the day and in the evening. – Purr… – Evening. Ten o'clock. Good night!
- Кото́рый час? – What time is it?
- час after numbers, like огуре́ц (День 9): 1 час · 2, 3, 4 часа́ · 5 … 12 часо́в
- пять мину́т – say it as one piece.
- у́тром, днём, ве́чером – in the morning, in the day, in the evening.
ЛО́НДОН – the stress is on the first syllable, as in English. But Russians say a real, round о: LON-d’n, not LUN-dun. The second о comes after the stress, so it is short and weak (like the a in sofa).
ТЕЛЕФО́Н – not like the English TEL-ih-fohn: the stress is on the last syllable: ti-li-FON (е without stress sounds like a short и). That is why we mark the stress.
🎯 Why does о sound like а?
English says «seven o'clock» – of the clock. Russian just says «семь часо́в» – seven hours. ⏰
Russian railways used Moscow time all over the country for many years – a train in Vladivostok left «at 3 o'clock» when it was 10 o'clock there! 🚂
🔬 Почему́ так · Why this way
- The same rule a third time. огурцо́в (День 9), рубле́й (День 10), часо́в (today): one pattern met on three days in three situations is learned without a table – spaced returns: Rogers · Nakata · Chiu 2025.
- Chunks for the hard parts. «пять мину́т», «я встаю́», «споко́йной но́чи» are used as whole pieces now; their grammar comes later (встава́ть belongs to the verbs of position in Курс 3).
- The student's own day. Telling one's own time of getting up makes the words personal – personal sentences stay longer.
- The cat makes the mistakes. Scuffles says «семь час». The student laughs and is never the one who is wrong.
