День 11 из 40: Е́ду и́ли е́зжу?
📚 Слова́ дня · Words of the day: 4 – е́хать, е́здить, маши́на, авто́бус.
🗣️ Глаго́лы дня · Verbs of the day: е́хать – я е́ду ➡️ · е́здить – я е́зжу 🔄 – not on foot, by transport
⏱ Part 1 = 15 minutes – everybody finishes it. Part 2 = more, only if you want. · 🗺️ All days
Your homework from День 10: one «every day» and one «now» sentence:
«Ка́ждый день я хожу́ на рабо́ту. 🔄 Сейча́с я иду́ на ку́хню. ➡️»
You remembered it – that is your first win today. ✅
- Tap and listen. Hands on the wheel: drive forward ➡️ «е́ду!» – drive there and back 🔄 «е́зжу!»
- On foot – идти́ / ходи́ть (День 9–10). By car, by bus – е́хать / е́здить. The same logic: ➡️ and 🔄.
Say every word aloud and show it – the gesture is under the picture. Tap a word or its picture – the dictionary opens.
How? – на + the transport with -е: на маши́не, на авто́бусе (like на столе́, День 5).
👂 Listen first. Hands on the wheel: ➡️ on «е́ду», 🔄 on «е́зжу».
- Ри́чард: Ка́ждый день я е́зжу на рабо́ту на авто́бусе. 🔄 🚌
- Ри́чард: А сего́дня я е́ду на маши́не! ➡️ 🚗 – Ната́ша: Куда́ ты е́дешь? – Ри́чард: На рабо́ту! Би-би́!
- Ната́ша: Пешко́м – иду́. На маши́не – е́ду. 🚶 🚗
Ска́ффлз: (on the car roof) Я иду́ в Москву́ на маши́не!
- Ната́ша: Ска́ффлз! На маши́не не иду́т – на маши́не е́дут!
Ска́ффлз: (she jumps onto Richard's shoulder) Хорошо́. Я е́ду… на Ри́чарде! 😹 –
Сли́нки: Мя́у. (she stays at home)
🌱 The seed of the day: on foot or not? 🚶 идти́ / ходи́ть · 🚗 е́хать / е́здить. Then Natasha's question: ➡️ one way, now – or 🔄 often, there and back? я е́зжу – зд → зж only for «я».
Say every line aloud, hands on the wheel. 🚗
Я е́ду. ➡️ Ты е́дешь. Он е́дет.
Я е́зжу. 🔄 Ты е́здишь. Он е́здит.
Ка́ждый день я е́зжу на рабо́ту на авто́бусе. 🚌
Сего́дня я е́ду на маши́не. Би-би́! 🚗
- How do you go to work, to school, to the shop? «Я хожу́ пешко́м.» 🚶 or «Я е́зжу на авто́бусе / на маши́не.» 🔄
- And today? «Сего́дня я е́ду на…» ➡️
- Ask someone: «Куда́ ты е́дешь?»
- Speaking is optional – listening and doing count too.
Can you say it without looking? – Молоде́ц! Go to the tap quiz.
Guess, then tap. Two questions: 🚶 or 🚗? ➡️ or 🔄? 😊
Хорошо́! Молоде́ц! Two small things left – two minutes.
е́зжу – you write з + ж, you say one long soft «жж»: «е́жжу». 🐝🐝
- Buzz like the bee of День 1: ж-ж-ж – then make it longer and softer: жж.
- Then: е́-жжу – «Я е́жжу на авто́бусе». (The same in по́зже – later.)
- 30 seconds, every day. This is aerobics for the tongue.
Tomorrow morning, say how you go to work, to school or to the shop – and how you go today:
«Ка́ждый день я е́зжу на авто́бусе. 🔄 Сего́дня я иду́ пешко́м. ➡️» (or your own sentence)
That is the first minute of День 12. You already know it – so День 12 starts with a win.
- 🚶 or 🚗? Somebody names a place and a way – «В парк – пешко́м!» «В Москву́ – на маши́не!» – the others walk or drive and say «иду́!» or «е́ду!».
- The bus. Everybody stands in a row and holds a handle above their head: «Мы е́дем на авто́бусе!» ➡️ The driver says «Стоп!» – everybody stands still. 🚌
- Every day. Each person says how they go to work or school: «Я е́зжу на маши́не.» «Я хожу́ пешко́м.» 🔄
The song you sang in Курс 2 – now you know its verb: е́хали – we were going (by transport). Sing it and drive! The bar at its top belongs to Курс 2 – come back here with the back button.
The quieter you go, the further you get.
Slow and steady wins the race. «е́дешь» – today's verb, the «ты» form. 🤸 Gesture: hands on the wheel, drive very slowly… and smile – you are far ahead!
по́езд – a train: the thing that goes! 🚆 · пое́здка – a trip
Just look and smile – you don't have to learn these now. 😊
Ка́ждый день я е́зжу на рабо́ту на авто́бусе. А сего́дня я е́ду на маши́не! – Куда́ ты е́дешь? – На рабо́ту! Би-би́! – Пешко́м – иду́. На маши́не – е́ду. – Я иду́ в Москву́ на маши́не! – Ска́ффлз! На маши́не не иду́т – на маши́не е́дут! – Хорошо́. Я е́ду… на Ри́чарде! – Мя́у.
Every day I go to work by bus. And today I'm going by car! – Where are you going? – To work! Beep-beep! – On foot – «иду́». By car – «е́ду». – I'm walking to Moscow by car! (Scuffles's mistake) – Scuffles! You don't walk in a car – you ride! – All right. I'm riding… on Richard! – Miaow.
- 🚶 on foot: идти́ ➡️ / ходи́ть 🔄 · 🚗 by transport: е́хать ➡️ / е́здить 🔄
- е́хать: я е́ду, ты е́дешь, он е́дет, мы е́дем, вы е́дете, они́ е́дут · е́хал, е́хала
- е́здить: я е́зжу, ты е́здишь, он е́здит… (зд → зж only for «я») · е́здил, е́здила
- How? на маши́не, на авто́бусе, на по́езде · on foot – пешко́м
ЛО́НДОН – the stress is on the first syllable, as in English. But Russians say a real, round о: LON-d’n, not LUN-dun. The second о comes after the stress, so it is short and weak (like the a in sofa).
ТЕЛЕФО́Н – not like the English TEL-ih-fohn: the stress is on the last syllable: ti-li-FON (е without stress sounds like a short и). That is why we mark the stress.
🎯 Why does о sound like а?
In English you «go» everywhere – on foot, by car, by plane. In Russian you must first decide: feet or wheels? 🚶 / 🚗 – and then: ➡️ or 🔄? So «I go to London by train every week» = «Я е́зжу в Ло́ндон на по́езде ка́ждую неде́лю.»
🔬 Почему́ так · Why this way
- The same logic, a new pair. The ➡️ / 🔄 question of День 10 is used again at once – the second pair makes the system visible (Ellis 2002, frequency and patterns).
- An old song. «Мы е́хали, е́хали» from Курс 2 was a chunk; now its verb gets its place.
- Hands on the wheel. A clear gesture separates on foot 🚶 from by transport 🚗: Macedonia · Knösche 2011.
- The cat makes the mistakes. Scuffles «walks» to Moscow by car. The student laughs and is never the one who is wrong.
