🎬 The videos for Course 3 come after the videos for Courses 1 and 2. Until then every day works with the text, the pictures and the sound. Start now – the lesson is the same.

Хожу́!
I go (often, there and back) – ходи́ть. ★ Natasha's logic: ➡️ идти́ / 🔄 ходи́ть
⏱ 15 (+ 25 if you want more) min · 🎒 You need: space to walk 🚶

📚 Слова́ дня · Words of the day: 2 – ходи́ть, ка́ждый день. (Old friends: идти́, магази́н, шко́ла.)
🗣️ Глаго́л дня · Verb of the day: ходи́ть – я хожу́, ты хо́дишь… 🔄 – and its pair идти́ ➡️
⏱ Part 1 = 15 minutes – everybody finishes it. Part 2 = more, only if you want. · 🗺️ All days

Часть 1 · Обяза́тельно · 15 мину́тPart 1 – everybody does this. 15 minutes.
🤸 Разми́нка · Warm-up (1 min)

Your homework from День 9: walk out of the room and say where you are going – one arm forward ➡️:
«Я иду́ на ку́хню!» – «Я иду́ в магази́н!»
You remembered it – that is your first win today. ✅

👀👂 Смотри́те и слу́шайте · Watch and listen
🔊 ХОЖУ́! 🔄
  • Tap and listen. Then walk there and back: to the door and back again – «хожу́, хожу́…» 🔄
  • Yesterday: иду́ ➡️ – one way, now. Today: хожу́ 🔄 – often, or there and back.
👋 Скажи́те и покажи́те · Say it and show it

Say every word aloud and show it. The gestures of the motion days: ➡️ one arm points and moves forward, one way · 🔄 the hand goes there and back (or draws a circle).

➡️ one way, now · directed

one way, now
я иду́, ты идёшь
🤸 one arm forward, walk
🔄 often, there and back · non-directed

often · there and back · round and round

👂 Listen first. Walk: ➡️ on «иду́», there and back 🔄 on «хожу́».

  • Ната́ша: Ка́ждый день я хожу́ в магази́н. 🔄 А сейча́с я иду́ в парк! ➡️
  • Ри́чард: Я хожу́ на рабо́ту ка́ждый день. 🔄 А сейча́с я иду́ домо́й. ➡️ 📒
  • Ната́ша: Сли́нки хо́дит по ко́мнате. 🔄 – Сли́нки: Мя́у… (round and round)
  • Ска́ффлз: Ка́ждый день я иду́ на ку́хню!
  • Ната́ша: Ска́ффлз! Ка́ждый день – ты хо́дишь на ку́хню. 🔄 Сейча́с – ты идёшь. ➡️
  • Ска́ффлз: Я хожу́ на ку́хню ка́ждый день… и сейча́с иду́! 😼

★ Natasha's logic – 30 seconds. Two verbs, one pair. Both are impf.

  • ➡️ идти́ – one way, now, I am on my way: «Сейча́с я иду́ в магази́н.» (Куда́?)
  • 🔄 ходи́ть – often: «Я хожу́ в магази́н ка́ждый день.» · there and back: «Вчера́ я ходи́л(а) в магази́н.» (I went and came back) · no direction: «Ко́шка хо́дит по ко́мнате.» (Где?)

Ask yourself: one way, now? → идти́. Otherwise → ходи́ть.
💡 Natasha's logic for all 14 pairs – her table is in Part 2. Explanation: Natalia Brown, WikiTranslate.

🌱 The seed of the day: я хожу́ – Д → Ж only for «я», like сижу́ (День 1). The rest: хо́дишь, хо́дит, хо́дим, хо́дите, хо́дят.

🔁 Повторя́йте · Repeat

Say every line aloud and walk: ➡️ or 🔄.

Ка́ждый день я хожу́ в магази́н. 🔄
Сейча́с я иду́ в парк. ➡️
Ри́чард хо́дит на рабо́ту. Сейча́с он идёт домо́й.
Сли́нки хо́дит по ко́мнате. 🔄 Ска́ффлз идёт на ку́хню. ➡️ 😼

🗣️ Ва́ша о́чередь! · Your turn!
  • Walk to the door and back: «Я хожу́!» 🔄 Walk out: «Я иду́!» ➡️
  • Tell about every day: «Ка́ждый день я хожу́ на рабо́ту / в шко́лу / в магази́н.»
  • And now: «А сейча́с я иду́ на ку́хню.»
  • Speaking is optional – listening and doing count too.

Can you say it without looking? – Молоде́ц! Go to the tap quiz.

2 ➡️ Right now, on my way: Сейча́с я … в магази́н.

3 🔄 Round and round: Ко́шка … по ко́мнате.

4 🫵 Every day: Вы … в шко́лу?

КА́ЖДЫЙ ДЕНЬ Я ХО́ДИТ НА КУ́ХНЮ
КА́ЖДЫЙ ДЕНЬ Я ИДЁШЬ НА КУ́ХНЮ

Хорошо́! Молоде́ц! Two small things left – two minutes.

🔊 Звук дня · Sound of the day: the stress moves: хожу́ – хо́дишь

хожу́ – the stress is at the end, so the О is weak: «ха-жу́». хо́дишь – the stress jumps to the front, and the О is clear: «хо́-дишь».

  • Clap: ха-ЖУ́ 👏 – ХО́-дишь 👏 – ХО́-дит 👏
  • The same as сижу́ – сиди́шь? No! There the stress stays. Every verb has its own music. 🎵
  • 30 seconds, every day. This is aerobics for the tongue.
🏠 Дома́шняя рабо́та · Homework – one small thing

Tomorrow morning, say one «every day» sentence and one «now» sentence:
«Ка́ждый день я хожу́ на рабо́ту. 🔄 Сейча́с я иду́ на ку́хню. ➡️»
That is the first minute of День 11. You already know it – so День 11 starts with a win.

✔ Часть 1 гото́ва! Part 1 done.
You may stop here – see you tomorrow: День 11 · Е́ду и́ли е́зжу? ▶
Часть 2 · Е́сли хоти́те · +25 мину́тPart 2 – only if you want more. Nothing here is needed for tomorrow.
🤸 Жестова́я игра́ · Gesture game
  1. ➡️ or 🔄? One person says a sentence without the verb – «Ка́ждый день я … в шко́лу» – the others show ➡️ or 🔄 and say the verb: «хожу́!»
  2. The walking circle. Walk round the table: «Я хожу́ по ко́мнате.» 🔄 On «Стоп!» – walk to the door: «Я иду́ на ку́хню!» ➡️
  3. Six persons, round and round. 👆 хожу́ · 🫳 хо́дишь · 👉 хо́дит · ⭕ хо́дим · 🫵 хо́дите · 🙌 хо́дят.
💡 Natasha's table · the verbs of motion

Today look only at the first row – идти́ ➡️ · ходи́ть 🔄 (yellow). Every verb of motion has a pair like this; you meet the other rows by День 14. Just look – don't learn the table now.

Глаго́лы движе́ния · verbs of motion: 2 verbs in a pair
💡 The logic · ло́гика
Russian verbs of motion come in pairs. Both verbs are imperfective:
➡️ directed – one direction, one trip, now. Куда́? Отку́да?
🔄 non-directed – there and back, many times, or no direction at all. Где?
➡️ Я иду́ в шко́лу. · ➡️ Ма́ма идёт из магази́на.
🔄 Я хожу́ в шко́лу ка́ждый день. · 🔄 Ко́шка хо́дит по ко́мнате.
✅ Perfective: по- + directed – to set off: Пойдём в кино́!
🚶 subject or object – it moves itself · 🧳 subject with an object – we carry, lead or drive something.
English often has one verb (go, walk); Russian has two – learn them as a pair.

🦉 Посло́вица дня · proverb of the day · 👂 listen and read
Беда́ одна́ не хо́дит.

Trouble never walks alone.
When one bad thing happens, another often comes – so be ready, and be kind. «хо́дит» – today's verb, the 🔄 form. 🤸 Gesture: walk in a circle 🔄 with a sad face… then a second person joins you!

📖 Чита́йте са́ми · Read alone – guess, then tap

Read every line aloud, slowly. Every word is one you know. Tap a word to check. ✋

🙌 Today's words: ХОДИ́ТЬ · КА́ЖДЫЙ ДЕНЬ
Ка́ждый день Ната́ша хо́дит в магази́н.
Сего́дня она́ идёт в парк.
Ри́чард хо́дит на рабо́ту. Сейча́с он идёт домо́й.
Сли́нки хо́дит по ко́мнате, а Ска́ффлз идёт на ку́хню. 😼

🔗 Одно́ сло́во – мно́го слов · one word – many words
ходи́ть – to go (often, there and back) · ход – a move, a way (a move in chess!) ♟️
пешехо́д – a pedestrian: пеш- (on foot) + ход 🚶 · вход, вы́ход – the way in, the way out (День 28)

Just look and smile – you don't have to learn these now. 😊

📖 Текст уро́ка · The text – open it only after you can say it without reading

Every day I go to the shop. And now I'm going to the park! – I go to work every day. And now I'm going home. – Slinky is walking round the room. – Miaow… – Every day I «am going» to the kitchen! (Scuffles's mistake) – Scuffles! Every day – you «хо́дишь» to the kitchen. Now – you «идёшь». – I go to the kitchen every day… and now I'm going!

💡 Пра́вило · Rule
  • ★ идти́ ➡️ – one way, now · ходи́ть 🔄 – often, there and back, round and round. Both impf.
  • ходи́ть: я хожу́, ты хо́дишь, он хо́дит, мы хо́дим, вы хо́дите, они́ хо́дят · ходи́л, ходи́ла · Ходи́!
  • «Вчера́ я ходи́л(а) в магази́н» – I went and came back.
  • ➡️ Куда́? – в парк · 🔄 Где? – по ко́мнате (round the room)
ударе́ние – словарь ударе́ние – stress – shows the syllable you say louder and longer, just like in English: LUN-dun (London), TEL-ih-fohn (telephone).

ЛО́НДОН – словарь ЛО́НДОН – the stress is on the first syllable, as in English. But Russians say a real, round о: LON-d’n, not LUN-dun. The second о comes after the stress, so it is short and weak (like the a in sofa).
ТЕЛЕФО́Н – словарь ТЕЛЕФО́Н – not like the English TEL-ih-fohn: the stress is on the last syllable: ti-li-FON (е without stress sounds like a short и). That is why we mark the stress.

The sign is only a help for learners. Russian books don't print it, and you don't write it.
🎯 Why does о sound like а?
😄 Для тех, кто говори́т по-англи́йски · For English speakers

English «I go to school» (every day) and «I'm going to school» (now) – English uses the tense. Russian uses another verb: хожу́ 🔄 / иду́ ➡️. Your -ing feeling is a good helper: «I'm going» → иду́. 😉

🔬 Почему́ так · Why this way

  • The pair after the single. Yesterday идти́ alone; today its partner – and only then the ★ box comparing them. Learning two look-alike words on the same day mixes them up (Tinkham 1993: words that are too alike, learned together, get mixed up).
  • Natasha's logic, in her words. The ➡️ / 🔄 explanation is Natalia Brown's; her table is shown in Part 2 with her credit.
  • The body knows the difference. Walking forward vs. walking there and back makes the two verbs two different movements: Macedonia · Knösche 2011.
  • The cat makes the mistakes. Scuffles «is going» to the kitchen every day. The student laughs and is never the one who is wrong.
