День 17 из 40: Приста́вь приста́вки!
📚 Слова́ дня · Words of the day: 4 – вста́вить, переста́вить, расста́вить, приста́вка. (Old friend: ста́вить – поста́вить, День 6.)
🗣️ Глаго́л дня · Verb of the day: ста́вить + a prefix: поста́вить · вста́вить · переста́вить · расста́вить
⏱ Part 1 = 15 minutes – everybody finishes it. Part 2 = more, only if you want. · 🗺️ All days
Your homework from День 16: put a cup on the table and say the verb of День 6:
«Я ста́влю ча́шку на стол.» ☕ – and the riddle: «Хо́дят, хо́дят, а с ме́ста не схо́дят.» – Часы́! 🕰️
You remembered it – that is your first win today. Now the verb gets little words in front of it. ✅
- Tap and listen. Do it with cups: put down – put in – move over – set out in a row.
- ста́вить is the root verb (День 6). A prefix (приста́вка) in front changes where and how.
Say every prefix aloud and show it – the gesture is under the picture. Tap a picture – the prefix page opens.
раз- becomes рас- before с, т, к… (расста́вить). All four are ✅ pf.
👂 Listen first. Do it with cups: по- ✅ · в- into · пере- an arc · рас- apart.
Ска́ффлз: (her head in an empty box) А я вста́вила себя́ в коро́бку! 😹 –
Сли́нки: Мя́у!
★ What is a prefix? – 30 seconds.
- A prefix – приста́вка – is a small part in front of a word: пере+ста́вить.
- The word itself is built the same way: при-став-к-а – «something put next to» – a prefix! 😄
- The root (став) keeps the main meaning – «stand». The prefix adds where to: in, across, apart…
- A verb with a prefix is usually ✅ pf: вста́вил, переста́вил, расста́вил – done!
Every prefix has its own page with Natasha's direction picture: tap a card.
🌱 The seed of the day: one root – many verbs. Learn the prefix once, and it works with other verbs too: входи́ть (tomorrow), переходи́ть (День 21), перели́ть (День 23).
Say every line aloud and do it with a cup.
Я поста́вил(а) стака́н. ✅
Я вста́вил(а) стака́н в стака́н. 🥛
Я переста́вил(а) стака́н на окно́. 🪟
Я расста́вил(а) стака́ны. 🥛🥛🥛
При-ста́в-ка! 🧩
- Take three cups: расста́вь them in a row – «Я расста́вил(а) ча́шки.»
- Move one: «Я переста́вил(а) ча́шку.» Put one into another: «Я вста́вил(а) ча́шку в ча́шку.»
- Find the prefix: пере-ста́вить, в-ста́вить, при-ста́в-ка.
- Speaking is optional – listening and doing count too.
Can you say it without looking? – Молоде́ц! Go to the tap quiz.
Guess, then tap. Look at the prefix: in? across? apart? 😊
Хорошо́! Молоде́ц! Two small things left – two minutes.
ста́вить – but я ста́влю: an Л comes in after В for «я» (like День 6). Say it smoothly, no gap: «ста́в-лю» → «ста́влю».
- Say: влю – влю – влю (like «люблю́»).
- Then: ста́влю, вста́влю, переста́влю.
- 30 seconds, every day. This is aerobics for the tongue.
Tomorrow morning, go through a door: stop in the doorway, go in – then out again. Watch your feet – tomorrow's prefixes are в- (in) and вы- (out). 🚪
And say once: «Я расста́вил(а) ча́шки.»
That is the first minute of День 18. You already know it – so День 18 starts with a win.
- Prefix → hands. Someone says a prefix – you show it: «в-!» one hand into the other · «пере-!» an arc · «рас-!» hands apart · «по-!» a stamp.
- The cup game. One person gives orders with ты: «Вста́вь! Переста́вь! Расста́вь! Поста́вь!» – the other does it with cups. Then change.
- Cut the word. Clap the parts: при – став – к – а · пере – став – ить · в – став – ить. 👏
Natasha's own lesson for Richard, with glasses: поста́вить, вста́вить, переста́вить, расста́вить, соста́вить, отста́вить… and what a prefix is. The bar at its top brings you back here.
People meet you by your clothes and see you off by your mind.
First people look at how you look; when you leave, they remember what you said. Two prefixes: встреча́ть (to meet) and провожа́ть (to see off). 🤸 Gesture: touch your coat on «оде́жке», tap your forehead on «уму́».
Read every line aloud, slowly. Every word is one you know. Tap a word to check. ✋
🙌 Today's prefixes: ПО- · В- · ПЕРЕ- · РАЗ- / РАС-
Ри́чард поста́вил стака́н на стол.
Пото́м он вста́вил стака́н в стака́н.
Ната́ша переста́вила ча́шку на окно́.
Ска́ффлз вста́вила себя́ в коро́бку! 😹
приста́вка = при + став + к + а · оста́новка – the bus stop (День 4) – the same root ста- 🚌
Just look and smile – you don't have to learn these now. 😊
Ри́чард, поста́вь стака́н на стол! – Поста́вил. – Тепе́рь вста́вь стака́н в стака́н! – Вста́вил! – Переста́вь стака́н на окно́! – Переста́вил! – Расста́вь стака́ны на столе́! – Расста́вил! – Я вставля́ю ча́шку на стол! – Нет! В- – э́то в что́-то: в стака́н, в су́мку. На стол – ты ста́вишь. – А я вста́вила себя́ в коро́бку! – Мя́у!
Richard, put the glass on the table! – Done. – Now put the glass into the glass! – Done! – Move the glass to the windowsill! – Done! – Set the glasses out on the table! – Done! – I'm putting the cup «in» on the table! (Scuffles's mistake) – No! В- means «into» something: into a glass, into a bag. On the table – you put it, «ста́вишь». – And I've put myself into a box! – Miaow!
- ★ приста́вка (prefix) – a small part in front: переста́вить. The root keeps the meaning, the prefix adds where to.
- по- put · в- in · пере- to another place · раз- / рас- apart, out in a row
- With a prefix the verb is usually ✅ pf: вста́вить, переста́вить, расста́вить (impf: вставля́ть, переставля́ть, расставля́ть).
- «ты» commands: Вста́вь! Переста́вь! Расста́вь!
ЛО́НДОН – the stress is on the first syllable, as in English. But Russians say a real, round о: LON-d’n, not LUN-dun. The second о comes after the stress, so it is short and weak (like the a in sofa).
ТЕЛЕФО́Н – not like the English TEL-ih-fohn: the stress is on the last syllable: ti-li-FON (е without stress sounds like a short и). That is why we mark the stress.
🎯 Why does о sound like а?
English puts the direction after the verb: put in, put away, put out. Russian puts it in front: вста́вить, вы́ставить, переста́вить. Same idea – only at the other end! 😄
🔬 Почему́ так · Why this way
- A known root, new prefixes. ста́вить was learned on День 6; today only the prefixes are new – one new thing at a time.
- The word explains itself. «при-став-к-а» is cut into parts with the hands – the rule is seen in the word that names it (Schmidt 1990, the noticing hypothesis).
- Hands for directions. Every prefix has a hand movement – in, across, apart: Macedonia · Knösche 2011.
- Natasha's own lesson. Her video with the glasses is the lesson of the day; her direction pictures are on the prefix pages.
- The cat makes the mistakes. Scuffles «puts the cup in» on the table – and then puts herself into a box. The student laughs and is never the one who is wrong.
