идёшь, несёшь, ведёшь, везёшь, плывёшь – the stress is on the Ё of the ending. Ё is always stressed (День 4)!
- Say them in a row, a stamp on every Ё: ид-ЁШЬ, нес-ЁШЬ, вед-ЁШЬ, вез-ЁШЬ, плыв-ЁШЬ 👏
- And «мы»: идЁм, несЁм – the same Ё.
- 30 seconds, every day. This is aerobics for the tongue.
Tomorrow a new part begins: prefixes. Put a cup on the table and say the verb of День 6: «Я ста́влю ча́шку на стол.» ☕ – tomorrow this verb gets little words in front of it. And tell the riddle (in Part 2) to someone at home.
That is the first minute of День 17. You already know it – so День 17 starts with a win.

Часы́! 🕰️ – a clock. In Russian a clock «goes»: «Часы́ хо́дят» = the clock works.
хо́дят – 🔄 round and round, no direction: Natasha's ходи́ть of День 10! «не схо́дят с ме́ста» – they don't go off their place: a prefix (с-), the theme of the next days. 🧩
«Куда́ идём?» – a game for the whole family.
- One person is the leader and says how: «Идём!» 🚶 – everybody walks. «Бежи́м!» 🏃 – everybody runs. «Лети́м!» 🕊️ – everybody flies. «Плывём!» 🐟 – everybody swims. «Е́дем!» 🚗 – hands on the wheel. Faster and faster!
- ➡️ or 🔄? The leader says a verb – the others go in a line (➡️) or in a circle (🔄): «хо́дим» 🔄 · «идём» ➡️ · «бе́гаем» 🔄 · «лети́м» ➡️…
- 👜 🤝 🚗 Carry a cushion, lead somebody by the hand, push a toy car – and say it: «Несу́! Веду́! Везу́!»

ударе́ние – stress – shows the syllable you say louder and longer, just like in English: LUN-dun (London), TEL-ih-fohn (telephone).
ЛО́НДОН – the stress is on the first syllable, as in English. But Russians say a real, round о: LON-d’n, not LUN-dun. The second о comes after the stress, so it is short and weak (like the a in sofa).
ТЕЛЕФО́Н – not like the English TEL-ih-fohn: the stress is on the last syllable: ti-li-FON (е without stress sounds like a short и). That is why we mark the stress.
🎯 Why does о sound like а?
English speakers often say verbs of motion are the hardest part of Russian. You have just learned eight pairs and the rule for «set off» – in one week. Now you can say not only «I go», but how, how often and with what. 💪

- A review day with no new words. Words met again after a gap of a few days are remembered much better than words met many times in one go – Rogers · Nakata · Chiu 2025.
- Three questions instead of a table. How? ➡️ or 🔄? ✅? – the student learns to ask, not to remember a list (Schmidt 1990, the noticing hypothesis).
- Remember first, then check. Reading a week's words alone, then tapping to check, is retrieval practice – Agarwal · Nunes · Blunt 2021.
- A riddle at the end. Guessing first, even wrongly, helps the answer stay (Kornell, Hays · Bjork 2009, the pretesting effect). And «часы́ хо́дят» shows ходи́ть with no direction at all.
- The cat makes the mistakes. Scuffles «flew» to the park by car – and never left the sofa. The student laughs and is never the one who is wrong.
