🙋 Ва́ша о́чередь! – one person, if they want. Ask «Кто хо́чет?» – never «You! Now!»

The ending -ь doesn’t tell you – мой / моя́ does.

🌱 The seed of the day: speaking comes in three steps – I, we, you. And the teacher’s line «Ва́ша о́чередь!» – о́чередь is a she-word.

Scuffles, it’s your lesson. First the teacher speaks, then everybody together, then one. – Slinky, repeat: Miaow! Miaow! … Slinky, «ваш о́чередь»! 💡 Пра́вило · Rule

о́чередь is a she-word: моя́, ва́ша о́чередь.
-ь words: she – о́чередь, дверь, ночь, мышь · he – слова́рь, день. Learn them with мой / моя́.
Three steps: я → все вме́сте → ва́ша о́чередь.
The teacher’s commands: Повтори́те! Скажи́те! Вслух! Сме́ло!

ударе́ние⁠ – stress – shows the syllable you say louder and longer, just like in English: LUN-dun (London), TEL-ih-fohn (telephone).

ЛО́НДОН⁠ – the stress is on the first syllable, as in English. But Russians say a real, round о: LON-d’n, not LUN-dun. The second о comes after the stress, so it is short and weak (like the a in sofa).
ТЕЛЕФО́Н⁠ – not like the English TEL-ih-fohn: the stress is on the last syllable: ti-li-FON (е without stress sounds like a short и). That is why we mark the stress.

The sign is only a help for learners. Russian books don't print it, and you don't write it.
🎯 Why does о sound like а?

English «your turn» – Russian «ва́ша о́чередь». And о́чередь is also a queue – in a shop, at the post office. So in a Russian queue you wait for your turn – and it is the same word! 😄

🔬 Почему́ так · Why this way

A silent period is normal. Many learners understand long before they speak – Krashen 1982.
Fear of speaking. Speaking in front of the class is what language learners fear most – Horwitz · Horwitz · Cope 1986; and anxiety goes with lower results – Botes · Dewaele · Greiff 2020.
Enjoyment helps. Classes that are fun and safe raise enjoyment, and enjoyment helps students try – Dewaele · MacIntyre 2014.
The cat makes the mistake. Scuffles says «ваш о́чередь» – the student laughs and is never the one who is wrong.
