Р in ро́бот is rolled: the tip of the tongue taps the ridge behind your top teeth, very fast – р-р-р.

- Don't worry if it doesn't come yet – a light tap is enough: ро́бот, рабо́таю, говорю́. 30 seconds, every day.
Tomorrow a new part begins: numbers. Count your fingers with Курс 1's numbers: «Оди́н, два, три, четы́ре, пять!» 🖐️ – and say the riddle to someone at home (it is in Part 2).
That is the first minute of День 9. You already know it – so День 9 starts with a win.

Моро́з! ❄️ – the frost. On a winter morning it draws white ferns and flowers on the window. 🪟
«без рук, без ног» – without many hands and legs: the «без» of Курс 1 with the form for «many» (like «без двере́й» in the riddle of День 1). рису́ет – the -у- of День 5!
«Ро́бот – челове́к» – a game for the whole family.
- Somebody says «Ро́бот!» – everybody walks stiff and speaks in a robot voice: «Я ра-бо́-та-ю.» 🤖 Somebody says «Челове́к!» – everybody walks normally and smiles: «Я рабо́таю.» 😊
- Gesture → verb. Make a gesture – the others say the verb with «я»: 📖 «чита́ю!» · 💃 «танцу́ю!» · 🗣️ «говорю́!» · ❤️ «люблю́!» · 🤲 «хочу́!» · 💪 «могу́!»
- Pass the person. One says «я рису́ю» and points – the next answers with the right form: 🫳 «ты рису́ешь!» – 🙌 «они́ рису́ют!»…
We are robots – Natasha talks to a toy robot: я рабо́таю, ты рабо́таешь, мы рабо́таем… in a robot voice. 🤖

ударе́ние – stress – shows the syllable you say louder and longer, just like in English: LUN-dun (London), TEL-ih-fohn (telephone).
ЛО́НДОН – the stress is on the first syllable, as in English. But Russians say a real, round о: LON-d’n, not LUN-dun. The second о comes after the stress, so it is short and weak (like the a in sofa).
ТЕЛЕФО́Н – not like the English TEL-ih-fohn: the stress is on the last syllable: ti-li-FON (е without stress sounds like a short и). That is why we mark the stress.
🎯 Why does о sound like а?
ро́бот is a Slavic word that went round the world: Čapek's play R.U.R. (1920) gave it to English. So when you say robot, you already speak a little Slavic! 🤖
Six forms for every verb – and you can say all of them now. English has only two (I work, he works). You did the harder job! 💪
🔬 Почему́ так · Why this way
- A review day with no new words. Words met again after a gap of a few days are remembered much better than words met many times in one go – Rogers · Nakata · Chiu 2025.
- All the families side by side. Forms that look alike are easier to tell apart when you see them together and notice the difference (Schmidt 1990, the noticing hypothesis).
- Remember first, then check. Reading seven days' words alone, then tapping to check, is retrieval practice – Agarwal · Nunes · Blunt 2021.
- A riddle at the end. A riddle makes the student guess before the answer – guessing first, even wrongly, helps the answer stay (Kornell, Hays · Bjork 2009, the pretesting effect).
- Move, speak, laugh. The robot game: the body moves, the mouth speaks, everybody laughs – Natasha's Language Aerobics.
- The cat makes the mistakes. Scuffles says «мы рабо́тают». The student laughs and is never the one who is wrong.
