⏱ Part 1 = 15 minutes – everybody finishes it. Part 2 = more, only if you want. · 🗺️ All days
· Э́то повторе́ние. Все слова́ вы уже́ зна́ете.
Stand up! Your homework from День 23: a short story with three prefixes:
«Я вошёл / вошла́ в ку́хню. Я нали́л / налила́ чай. Я вы́шел / вы́шла.» 🚪☕🚪
You remembered it – that is your first win today. Today is a review day – Повтори́м! 🔁
- Don't read anything yet. Listen: what does Richard do when he comes home? Count the prefixes! 🤔
- Show every prefix with your hands.
Say every prefix aloud and show it – the gesture is under the picture. 🔁 Old friends – the prefixes of День 17–23:
👂 Listen first – then read it. A gesture on every prefix.
- Ната́ша: Ри́чард пришёл домо́й. 🫴 Он вошёл в ко́мнату. 🚪
- Ната́ша: Он подошёл к столу́ ✌️, нали́л чай 🫗 и переста́вил ча́шку на окно́. 🌈
- Ри́чард: Пото́м я вы́шел на балко́н. 📒
Ска́ффлз: (walking into the kitchen) Я вы́шла в ку́хню!
- Ната́ша: Нет, Ска́ффлз! Ты вошла́ в ку́хню. Вы́шла – из ку́хни.
Ска́ффлз: Хорошо́. Я вошла́ в ку́хню… подошла́ к ми́ске… отошла́… и ушла́ на дива́н. Я ви́жу… сон. 😴 –
Сли́нки: Мя́у.
★ Повтори́м – prefixes and their little words. 30 seconds.
| prefix | where | + little word |
|---|---|---|
| в- / вы- | in / out | в ко́мнату / из ко́мнаты |
| при- / у- | here / away | домо́й / на рабо́ту |
| под- / от- | up to / away from | к столу́ / от стола́ |
| пере- · про- · до- | across · past · as far as | доро́гу · ми́мо · до па́рка |
| на- · раз- | into, onto · apart, all over | в стака́н · на стол |
And the rule (День 22): prefix + 🔄 = impf 〰️ (входи́ть) · prefix + ➡️ = pf ✅ (войти́).
💡 Natasha's direction pictures are on every prefix page – tap a card.
Say the story aloud with the gestures. 🔁
Ри́чард пришёл домо́й. 🫴
Он вошёл в ко́мнату. 🚪
Он подошёл к столу́ и нали́л чай. ✌️🫗
Он переста́вил ча́шку на окно́. 🌈
Пото́м он вы́шел на балко́н. 🚪➡️
👀 and the motto of the review days: Повторе́ние – мать уче́ния! 🔁
- Tell what you did when you came home yesterday: «Я пришёл / пришла́ домо́й. Я вошёл / вошла́…» – as many prefixes as you can!
- Walk it: in through a door, up to the table, pour water, out again. 🚪✌️🫗
- Speaking is optional – listening and doing count too.
Can you do it without the video? – Молоде́ц! Go to the tap quiz.
Guess, then tap. Which prefix? A wrong tap is a guess. 😊
Хорошо́! Молоде́ц! Two small things left – two minutes.
In ✅ pf verbs вы́- always takes the stress: вы́шел, вы́лил, вы́йти. In 〰️ impf it doesn't: выходи́ть, вылива́ть.
- Clap: ВЫ́-шел 👏 · вы-ха-ЖУ́ 👏 · ВЫ́-лил 👏 · вы-ли-ВА́-ю 👏
- A stressed вы́- tells your ear: done! ✅
- 30 seconds, every day. This is aerobics for the tongue.
Tomorrow a new part begins: building words. Call a cat (your own, or a neighbour's, or a toy) in three ways: «Кот! Ко́шка! Ки́са!» 🐈 – and tell the riddle (in Part 2) to someone at home.
That is the first minute of День 25. You already know it – so День 25 starts with a win.
The third part of Курс 3 is done – prefixes. 🎉 Every prefix is in its place! See you tomorrow: День 25 · Кот, ко́шка, ки́са, ки́сонька ▶
«Приста́вки на свои́х места́х» – a game for the whole family.
- The leader says a prefix – everybody does it with the body: «В-!» walk in through a door · «Вы-!» walk out · «Под-!» walk up to the table · «От-!» step back · «Пере-!» cross the «road» · «При-!» come to the leader · «У-!» walk away and wave. 🚪
- Make a verb. The leader says a root – ходи́ть, ста́вить, лить – and a prefix; the others make the verb: «в- + ходи́ть!» – «входи́ть!» · «пере- + ста́вить!» – «переста́вить!» · «на- + лить!» – «нали́ть!»
- 〰️ or ✅? Long line for impf, stamp for pf: «входи́ть» 〰️ · «войти́» ✅ · «вы́лить» ✅ · «налива́ть» 〰️.
Sleep is the best medicine.
When you are ill or tired, sleep! – like Scuffles. 😴 «сон» – the answer of today's riddle. 🤸 Gesture: hands under your cheek, close your eyes… then wake up fresh!
Read every word aloud, then tap it to check. Count the words you read! ✋
Now whole sentences:
РИ́ЧАРД ПРИШЁЛ ДОМО́Й. · ОН ВОШЁЛ В КО́МНАТУ. · ОН ПОДОШЁЛ К СТОЛУ́ И НАЛИ́Л ЧАЙ. · МЫ ПЕРЕХО́ДИМ ДОРО́ГУ. · СКА́ФФЛЗ УШЛА́ НА ДИВА́Н. · ВЫ́ХОД!
за- + кры́ть = закры́ть – to close (the riddle) · от- + кры́ть = откры́ть – to open: one root, opposite prefixes! 🧩
Just look and smile – you don't have to learn these now. 😊
Richard came home. He went into the room. He went up to the table, poured some tea and moved the cup to the windowsill. – Then I went out onto the balcony. – I went «out» into the kitchen! (Scuffles's mistake) – No, Scuffles! You went INTO the kitchen. «Вы́шла» – out of the kitchen. – All right. I went into the kitchen… went up to the bowl… stepped away… and went off to the sofa. I'm seeing… a dream. – Miaow. – Repetition is the mother of learning! Bye!
- ★ Повтори́м – День 17–23:
- в- / вы- in / out (18) · при- / у- here / away (19) · под- / от- up to / away from (20)
- пере- · про- · до- across · past · as far as (21) · на- · вы- · пере- · раз- + лить (23)
- по- · в- · пере- · рас- + ста́вить (17)
- ★ prefix + 🔄 = impf 〰️ · prefix + ➡️ = pf ✅ (22)
- вы́- in pf is always stressed: вы́шел, вы́лил
ЛО́НДОН – the stress is on the first syllable, as in English. But Russians say a real, round о: LON-d’n, not LUN-dun. The second о comes after the stress, so it is short and weak (like the a in sofa).
ТЕЛЕФО́Н – not like the English TEL-ih-fohn: the stress is on the last syllable: ti-li-FON (е without stress sounds like a short и). That is why we mark the stress.
🎯 Why does о sound like а?
With 12 prefixes and a few roots you can now make dozens of verbs you never «learned»: переходи́ть, переста́вить, перели́ть, перее́хать… English needs cross, move, pour into another, move house. Russian needs one prefix. 🧩💪
🔬 Почему́ так · Why this way
- A review day with no new words. Words met again after a gap of a few days are remembered much better than words met many times in one go – Rogers · Nakata · Chiu 2025.
- One table: prefix + little word. The prefixes are seen side by side with their partners – easier to tell apart (Schmidt 1990, the noticing hypothesis).
- Remember first, then check. Reading a week's words alone, then tapping to check, is retrieval practice – Agarwal · Nunes · Blunt 2021.
- A riddle at the end. Guessing first, even wrongly, helps the answer stay (Kornell, Hays · Bjork 2009, the pretesting effect).
- The cat makes the mistakes. Scuffles goes «out» into the kitchen – and ends up asleep. The student laughs and is never the one who is wrong.
Today: no new words – 28 old friends and 12 prefixes. 🔁
