- Make a little mess – then tidy up and say every move: «Я кладу́… ста́влю… ве́шаю… сажа́ю…» 🧹
- At the end, look round and say where everything is: «Кни́га лежи́т. Ча́шка стои́т. Пальто́ виси́т. Ку́кла сиди́т.»
- Then you: «Я сажу́сь… Се́л(а)! Сижу́. Всё на свои́х места́х!»

места́х – only А is loud. The Е before it is weak and sounds like a short «и»: «ми-ста́х». The same in лежа́ть – «ли-жа́ть».
- Clap on the loud syllable: ми-СТА́Х 👏 · ли-ЖА́ТЬ 👏
- Only the loud syllable is clear and long – the others are short and weak. That is the music of Russian. 🎵
- 30 seconds, every day. This is aerobics for the tongue.
Tomorrow a new part begins: going. Walk across your room and say the old words of Курс 1: «Я иду́!» 🚶 – and tell the riddle (in Part 2) to someone at home.
That is the first minute of День 9. You already know it – so День 9 starts with a win.

Морко́вь! 🥕 – the carrot. It «sits» in the earth (the dark prison), and its green leaves (the plait) are outside.
сиди́т – the verb of День 1! A plant «sits» in the earth – like the turnip of День 7. «де́вица» – an old word for a girl, «темни́ца» – a dark prison (from тёмный, dark).
«Всё на свои́х места́х!» – a game for the whole family.
- One person makes a mess: a book on the floor, a cup on its side, a coat on a chair. The others tidy up – and must say every move: «Я ста́влю ча́шку! Поста́вил(а)!» Somebody who tidies without a word puts it back! 😄
- 🙋 or ✋? One says a verb – the others show 🙋 (hand on chest) or ✋ (hand forward): «ложи́ться» 🙋 · «класть» ✋ · «сади́ться» 🙋 · «сажа́ть» ✋ …
- Three in a row. Point at a person: «〰️!» – they say the movement verb, «✅!» – the done verb, «📍!» – the state: «ложи́тся – легла́ – лежи́т».
Where there is order, there is harmony.
A tidy house is a happy house. «лад» – you met it in the proverb of Курс 2, День 13 («когда́ в семье́ лад»). 🤸 Gesture: put things in a row with both hands on «поря́док», a hug on «лад».

ударе́ние – stress – shows the syllable you say louder and longer, just like in English: LUN-dun (London), TEL-ih-fohn (telephone).
ЛО́НДОН – the stress is on the first syllable, as in English. But Russians say a real, round о: LON-d’n, not LUN-dun. The second о comes after the stress, so it is short and weak (like the a in sofa).
ТЕЛЕФО́Н – not like the English TEL-ih-fohn: the stress is on the last syllable: ti-li-FON (е without stress sounds like a short и). That is why we mark the stress.
🎯 Why does о sound like а?
In one week you learned what many English speakers find the hardest part of Russian: where things are and where you put them. English has put and be. You now have eighteen verbs – and a system that holds them together: 〰️ ✅ 📍. 💪
🔬 Почему́ так · Why this way
- A review day with no new words. Words met again after a gap of a few days are remembered much better than words met many times in one go – Rogers · Nakata · Chiu 2025.
- All the threes side by side. Forms that look alike are easier to tell apart when you see them together and notice the difference (Schmidt 1990, the noticing hypothesis).
- Remember first, then check. Reading a week's words alone, then tapping to check, is retrieval practice – Agarwal · Nunes · Blunt 2021.
- A riddle at the end. A riddle makes the student guess before the answer – guessing first, even wrongly, helps the answer stay (Kornell, Hays · Bjork 2009, the pretesting effect).
- Tidy up and talk. The game is real life: the hands move things, the mouth says every move – Natasha's Language Aerobics.
- The cat makes the mistakes. Scuffles «puts herself» on the sofa. The student laughs and is never the one who is wrong.
