День 24 из 37: Что тут написано?
📚 Слова́ дня · Words of the day: 4 – бума́га, ры́жий, се́рый, пишу́ – and ★ one colour, three endings: кра́сный · кра́сная · кра́сное.
🔤 Бу́квы дня · Letters of the day: none. You know all 33 letters. 🎉
⏱ Part 1 = 15 minutes – everybody finishes it. Part 2 = more, only if you want. · 🗺️ All days
Stand up! Yesterday's homework: take three things from your kitchen – «Помидо́р – кра́сный! Огуре́ц – зелёный! Хлеб – бе́лый!» 🍅🥒🍞 – and show the rainbow with your hands: «Кра́сный, ора́нжевый, жёлтый…» 🌈
You remembered it – that is your first win today. Today the colours learn something new: they change their ending. ★
- Don't read anything yet. Listen: Natasha writes cards. What colour is the paper? What colour is the pen? 📄🖊️
- Scuffles reads the cards. Is she right? 🐈
- What does Natasha say when Scuffles gets it wrong again and again?
- Tap the words above to hear them.
Say every word aloud and show it – the gesture is under the picture. The movement falls on the loud syllable.
Tap the word to hear it. Tap the picture to open the word in the dictionary.
🎁 New today – and you can read them:
- пишу́ = I write · напи́сано = (it is) written – «Что тут напи́сано?» = What is written here?
- ры́жий = ginger – for hair and fur only: a ginger cat, a ginger boy. An orange is ора́нжевый, never ры́жий. 🐈
🔁 Old friends – from today's story, with the gestures you already know:
👂 Listen first – then read it. You can read every word! Thumb to the side for он, palms up for она́, a big O for оно́. 🤸
And you? Take a red thing and say it: «Помидо́р – кра́сный! / Ру́чка – кра́сная! / Я́блоко – кра́сное!» – aloud, or just in your head. Both count. 😊
★ Today's rule – 30 seconds. You heard it yesterday («Помидо́р – кра́сный»). Now you see it – the colour takes the ending of its word:
- он → -ый: кра́сный помидо́р · бе́лый хлеб
- она́ → -ая: кра́сная ру́чка · ры́жая ко́шка
- оно́ → -ое: кра́сное я́блоко · бе́лое молоко́
- many → -ые: кра́сные ру́чки – just listen.
The same colours as on our dictionary pages: blue он, pink она́, yellow оно́, green many. Scuffles says «ры́жий ко́шка» – you know better now. 😄
Say the story aloud, with the actions. Then play: do the action – say the word. Mix them up!
👀 read it and say it – the proverb of the day: Ска́ффлз! Тут же чёрным по бе́лому напи́сано! Ры́жая ко́шка! 📝
Ры́жая… ко́шка. – Да! Молоде́ц! 👍
Се́рая ко́шка. – Ри́чард – молоде́ц! 👍
- Take a sheet of white paper and a black pen. Write a card yourself: КРА́СНОЕ Я́БЛОКО – and put it by your apple. 🍎
- Point at three red things: «Помидо́р – кра́сный! Ру́чка – кра́сная! Я́блоко – кра́сное!» – thumb, palms, big O.
- Be Natasha: read a card wrong on purpose («кра́сный ру́чка!») – and then say: «Нет! Кра́сная ру́чка!» 😄
- Speaking is optional – listening and doing count too.
Can you do it without the video? – Молоде́ц! Go to the tap quiz.
Guess, then tap. A wrong tap is not a mistake – it is a guess. 😊
Хорошо́! Молоде́ц! Two small things left – two minutes.
The ending is quiet when the loud syllable is at the front:
- кра́сная and кра́сное sound almost the same – кра́сное sounds «кра́снае». So listen to the word that comes with it: ру́чка or я́блоко.
- But when the ending is loud, you hear it clearly: голуба́я ру́чка · голубо́е я́блоко · голубо́й стол.
- Ры́жий: Ж is always hard – ры́жий sounds «ры́жый», ры́жая – «ры́жая».
- 30 seconds, every day. The tongue is a muscle – this is aerobics. 💪
Tomorrow, take a red pen (or a red apple) and say with the gestures: «Ру́чка – кра́сная! Я́блоко – кра́сное! Помидо́р – кра́сный!» 🖊️🍎🍅 – palms, big O, thumb.
That is the first minute of День 25. You already know it – so День 25 starts with a win.
You may stop here – see you tomorrow: День 25 · Как говори́т соба́ка? ▶
«Он, она́, оно́!» Natasha shows a thing and its colour – you show он, она́ or оно́ with your hands. 👂 Listen and play – you can read every line!
| Say | Do |
|---|---|
| Помидо́р – кра́сный! | thumb to the side – он 👍 |
| Ру́чка – кра́сная! | both palms up to the side – она́ 🤲 |
| Я́блоко – кра́сное! | both hands make a big O – оно́ ⭕ |
| Ру́чки – кра́сные! | arms open wide – many 🙌 |
| Бума́га – бе́лая! Молоко́ – бе́лое! Хлеб – бе́лый! | faster and faster – palms, O, thumb 🌀 |
| Ска́ффлз – ры́жий? – Нет! Ры́жая! | shake one finger, then palms up – and laugh 😄 |
- Play it three times – a little faster each time. Then a friend says the colour – and you show он, она́ or оно́.
- Gesture → word. Don't look at the cards. Make a gesture – say the word. Mixed order: 📄 · ✍️ · 🐭 · 🦁
- Yesterday comes back. Mix in four colours from День 23: кра́сный ✋ · жёлтый 🐥 · зелёный 🌱 · си́ний 🌊.
The question changes too: како́й помидо́р? – кака́я ру́чка? – како́е я́блоко? – just listen. 😉
Зелёная корзи́нка. 🧺
Письмо́ написа́ла тому́, что люби́ла, ✍️💌
А по доро́ге урони́ла –👇
Урони́ла, урони́ла,
По доро́ге урони́ла.
Его́ де́вочка подхвати́ла 👧
И в карма́нчик положи́ла.
Chewing gum, a green basket. She wrote a letter to the boy she loved – and on the way she dropped it. A little girl picked it up and put it in her pocket.
An old English children's song – Natasha's Russian words. зелёная корзи́нка – today's rule: она́ → -ая! написа́ла = she wrote (I write = пишу́, today's word). In the second verse it is a boy: Жёлтая корзи́нка, письмо́ написа́л той, что люби́л… его́ ма́льчик подхвати́л. Его́ sounds «йиво́». Gestures: chew on ЖЕ-ВА́Ч-КА, carry a basket on КОР-ЗИ́Н-КА, write in the air on НА-ПИ-СА́-ЛА, drop it on У-РО-НИ́-ЛА, pick it up on ПОД-ХВА-ТИ́-ЛА, into your pocket on ПО-ЛО-ЖИ́-ЛА. The game: children stand in a circle, one runs round outside and drops a handkerchief; the nearest one picks it up and chases them! Natasha sings it here: «Жева́чка-рези́нка» – with her video. You don't have to learn it – just sing and smile. 😊
This box is brown – коро́бка кори́чневая, стол кори́чневый.
Today's ★ rule: the colour takes the ending of its word. Tap the title – the page opens; the bar at its top brings you back here.
Red apple – кра́сное я́блоко, ора́нжевая маши́на, зелёный попуга́й – listen and look.
It is today's title! The ending follows the word. Tap the title – the page opens; the bar at its top brings you back here.
Look, cover, write, check – four steps to write a new word without mistakes.
Today is a writing day: пишу́ – try it with МА́МА, КОТ, МЕТРО́. Tap the title – the page opens; the bar at its top brings you back here.

ТУТ ЖЕ ЧЁРНЫМ ПО БЕ́ЛОМУ НАПИ́САНО!
All from one root пис-. Just look and smile – you don't have to learn these now. 😊
Black on white.
Natasha wrote the cards in black on white – big and clear. Scuffles still read «ры́жий ко́шка»! So Natasha says: «Тут же чёрным по бе́лому напи́сано!» – it is written very clearly, you can't say you didn't see it. Russians say it just like this, when someone gets wrong something that is written plainly. же = «but… really» – it makes the words stronger. English says in black and white. Gesture: write in the air on «чёрным», hold up a sheet of paper on «по бе́лому». (Proverb page and mp3 to add.)
Вот бума́га. Бума́га – бе́лая. Вот ру́чка. Ру́чка – чёрная. Кра́сный помидо́р. Кра́сная ру́чка. Кра́сное я́блоко. Помидо́р – он: кра́сный. Ру́чка – она́: кра́сная. Ры́жая ко́шка! – Ры́жая… ко́шка. – Да! Молоде́ц! Се́рая ко́шка. – Ри́чард – молоде́ц! Молоде́ц! Пока́!
Here is paper. The paper is white. Here is a pen. The pen is black. A red tomato. A red pen. A red apple. Tomato – "he": red. Pen – "she": red. Apple – "it": red. – Slinky, what is written here? – A red pen! – Yes! Right! – Scuffles, what is written here? – A red (he) pen! – No! A red (she) pen. – Grrr… – And here? – A red (she) apple! – No! A grey cat. – Richard, well done! Well done! Bye!
- ★ The colour takes the ending of its word:
- он → -ый: кра́сный помидо́р
- она́ → -ая: кра́сная ру́чка, ры́жая ко́шка
- оно́ → -ое: кра́сное я́блоко, бе́лое молоко́

- Every new word has two links: tap the word to hear it 🔊, tap the picture to open it in the dictionary 📖.
ЛО́НДОН – the stress is on the first syllable, as in English. But Russians say a real, round о: LON-d’n, not LUN-dun. The second о comes after the stress, so it is short and weak (like the a in sofa).
ТЕЛЕФО́Н – not like the English TEL-ih-fohn: the stress is on the last syllable: ti-li-FON (е without stress sounds like a short и). That is why we mark the stress.
🎯 Why does о sound like а?
РЫ́ЖИЙ and English red (and ruddy) come from one very old root. 🦊
БУМА́ГА came from Italian bambagia – cotton: the first paper was made from cotton rags. 📄
КАРАНДА́Ш (День 15) is Turkic kara taş – «black stone». ✏️
English adjectives never change: a red pen, a red apple. Russian colours change like a chameleon – they take the colour of their word. 🦎
Чёрным по бе́лому = in black and white.
🔬 Почему́ так · Why this way
- Heard first, the rule today. «Помидо́р – кра́сный» was used yesterday as a block; today the endings get a name and a colour. One new thing at a time, so the working memory is not overloaded (Sweller, cognitive load); chunks first, rules later (Wray 2002, formulaic language).
- Colour makes the ending visible. Learners only learn what they notice (Schmidt 1990, noticing). The same blue / pink / yellow / green on every page and in the video helps the eye find the ending.
- Show it with your hands. A word said with a matching gesture, made by the learner, stays in memory far longer than a word only heard. Study with adults – Macedonia · Knösche 2011 (Max Planck Institute, Leipzig). Watching the gesture helps almost as much as doing it – 7 studies, 309 adults – Oppici et al. 2023.
- The action on the loud syllable. A hand beat on the stressed syllable helps adults pronounce new words. Studies with adults – Prieto's group, Barcelona.
- Remember first, then check. Reading alone, then tapping to check, is retrieval practice – 50 classroom experiments – Agarwal · Nunes · Blunt 2021. The first minute (yesterday's homework) works the same way.
- 15 minutes a day, not one long lesson. Short daily sessions beat one long one. Study with adults – Stoltzfus · Sukseemuang 2018.
- The proverb outside the core. Extras inside the core lower learning of the main thing (Mayer, seductive details); an idiom learned with its picture and story is remembered better than with a bare translation (Boers 2001).
- The cat makes the mistakes. Nobody corrects the student. The student laughs and is never the one who is wrong.
- Our own method. Natasha's Language Aerobics – tested for many years with her students.
