День 37 из 37: Загадка!
📚 Слова́ дня · Words of the day: 1 – зага́дка – and ★ all the предло́ги again (prepositions – the little words of День 33–36): из · с · от · у · о́коло · к · о.
🔤 Бу́квы дня · Letters of the day: none. You know all 33 letters. 🎉
⏱ Part 1 = 15 minutes – everybody finishes it. Part 2 = more, only if you want. · 🗺️ All days
· Это повторе́ние. Все слова́ вы уже́ зна́ете – кро́ме одного́.
Stand up! Yesterday's homework: finger to your temple – «Я ду́маю о …!» 🤔 Then point at someone – or your cat: «Мы говори́м о тебе́!» 🐈
You remembered it – that is your first win today. Today Natasha thinks about a riddle… and Scuffles, of course, about a fish. 🐟
- Don't read anything yet. Listen to the riddle. Can you guess the answer before Slinky? 🤔
- Where is Scuffles – and what does she think about? 🐟
- Listen for the предло́ги: ко мне · у стола́ · о́коло холоди́льника · из холоди́льника · от огурца́ · со стола́ · об огурце́. 👂
- Tap the word above to hear it.
Say every word aloud and show it – the gesture is under the picture. The movement falls on the loud syllable.
Tap the word to hear it. Tap the picture to open the word in the dictionary.
🙌 New today – one word:
🔁 Old friends – all the предло́ги (День 33–36), with their gestures:
🔁 And from the story:
- зага́дка = a riddle. «Вот зага́дка! Что э́то?» ❓
- Хм… – Richard thinks. Повтори́м! – let's repeat – the word of every review day. 🔁
👂 Listen first – then read it. You can read every word! Hold up your cucumber (or its picture). 🥒
And you? Look round your room: «Вот о́кна! Вот две́ри!» – then at your cucumber: «Нет око́н! Нет двере́й!» – aloud, or just in your head. Both count. 😊
★ Повтори́м предло́ги! 30 seconds. You know them all. The предло́г tells you the ending:
| из, с ]→ (День 33) | из холоди́льника · со стола́ |
| к →●← (День 34) | к холоди́льнику · ко мне |
| от ]→ (День 34) | от огурца́ |
| у, о́коло ●| (День 35) | у стола́ · о́коло холоди́льника |
| о, об (День 36) | о зага́дке · об огурце́ |
| без (День 29) | без ры́бы · без кольца́ |
Purple = the «нет» ending (из, с, от, у, о́коло, без – шесть предло́гов, one ending!) · orange = the кому́? ending (к) · blue = the где? ending (о). 💡 огуре́ц → огурца́ – the «е» runs away, like па́лец → па́льца (День 33). 🌱 One – many – none: the riddle's ending! After нет and без, many things have their own ending – three kinds. Read each row: one → нет → many → нет:
Look and listen – course 2 practises it. Scuffles says «нет ры́бков» – you know better now! 😉 (The names – роди́тельный, да́тельный, предло́жный – are for later.)
Say the story aloud, with the actions. Then play: do the action – say the word. Mix them up!
👀 read it and say it – the riddle: Без око́н, без двере́й – полна́ го́рница люде́й. 🥒
👀 read it and say it – the proverb of the day: Коне́ц – де́лу вене́ц. 🌿
- Put a cucumber (or a book) in the fridge – take it out: «Беру́ из холоди́льника… огуре́ц!» 🥒
- Stand by your table: «Я у стола́!» – then a few steps from it: «Я о́коло стола́!» – step back: «Иду́ от стола́!» 🚶
- Ask someone at home the riddle: «Без око́н, без двере́й… Что э́то?» ❓
- Speaking is optional – listening and doing count too.
Can you do it without the video? – Молоде́ц! Go to the tap quiz.
Guess, then tap. Look only at the end of the word. A wrong tap is not a mistake – it is a guess. 😊
Хорошо́! Молоде́ц! Two small things left – two minutes.
A предло́г has no stress – it sticks to the next word, as one:
- из холоди́льника = «ис-ха-ла-ди́ль-ни-ка» – З sounds like С before Х.
- от огурца́ = «а-та-гур-ца́» · об огурце́ = «а-ба-гур-це́» – О without stress like «а».
- со стола́ = «са-ста-ла́» · к холоди́льнику = «к-ха-ла-ди́ль-ни-ку».
- коне́ц, вене́ц, огуре́ц – Ц at the end, short and hard (День 11).
- 30 seconds, every day. The tongue is a muscle – this is aerobics. 💪
Tell the riddle to someone at home – or to your cat: «Без око́н, без двере́й – полна́ го́рница люде́й. Что э́то?» 🥒 Then show the cucumber!
That is the first minute of course 2. You already know it – so course 2 starts with a win.
You may stop here – and this was the last day: 🎓 Курс 1 «Встаём на но́ги» – the map
«Иду́ – стоп – иду́!» – all the предло́ги with your whole body. Walk, stop, take, think – and say where you are. 👂 Listen and play – you can read every line!
| Say | Do |
|---|---|
| Иду́ к окну́! | →●← walk to the window 🪟 |
| Стоп! Я у окна́! | stop – touch the window with one hand |
| Иду́ от окна́! | ]→ one step back, palms up |
| Я о́коло дива́на! | ⭕ stop near the sofa – a small circle in the air 🛋️ |
| Беру́ кни́гу из су́мки! | ]→ pull the book out of the bag 👜 |
| Беру́ кни́гу со стола́! | ]→ take the book off the table 📖 |
| Я ду́маю о кни́ге! | 💭 finger to your temple – then point at the book |
| А Ска́ффлз? – О́коло холоди́льника! Опя́ть! | shrug – point at the fridge – laugh 😾 |
- Play it three times – a little faster each time. Then a friend says the line – you do it.
- Gesture → word. Don't look at the cards. Make a gesture – say the word. Mixed order: ❓ зага́дка · ]→ из · 🧹 со · 👉 к · 🔙 от · ✋ у · ⭕ о́коло · 💭 о
- Yesterday comes back. Four words from День 36: о 💭 · ду́маю 🤔 · говорю́ 🗣️ · о ком? 🐈
Шесть предло́гов – из, с, от, у, о́коло, без – and the same «нет» ending. Your hands know them now. 😄
Не ходи́ на тот коне́чик: ☝️
Там мы́шка живёт, 🐭
Тебе́ хво́стик отгрызёт! 😱
Little cucumber, little cucumber, don't go to that end: a mouse lives there – it will bite your tail off!
A folk rhyme – and a game: one child is the mouse, the others walk to «that end»; on the last word the mouse catches them! огуре́чик ← огуре́ц – today's riddle! мы́шка ← мышь, хво́стик ← хвост: -ик, -ка make things small and sweet. Gestures: fingers walk on your arm on О-ГУ-РЕ́, shake your finger on НЕ ХО-ДИ́, point far away on ТАМ, mouse ears on МЫ́Ш-КА, snap your fingers on ОТ-ГРЫ-ЗЁТ. You don't have to learn it – just say it and smile. 😊
You know all 33 letters. Read every word aloud, then tap it to check. Count the words you read! ✋
День 33: ОТКУ́ДА? · ИЗ · С · СНИМА́Ю
День 34: К · ОТ · ОТ КОГО́? · КО МНЕ!
День 35: У · О́КОЛО
День 36: О · О КОМ? · О ЧЁМ? · ДУ́МАЮ · ГОВОРЮ́ · ГОВОРИ́М
День 37: ЗАГА́ДКА
★ One cucumber – all the предло́ги: ИЗ ХОЛОДИ́ЛЬНИКА · К ХОЛОДИ́ЛЬНИКУ · О́КОЛО ХОЛОДИ́ЛЬНИКА · У СТОЛА́ · СО СТОЛА́ · ОТ ОГУРЦА́ · ОБ ОГУРЦЕ́ · О ЗАГА́ДКЕ
★ One – many – none: НЕТ ОКНА́ → НЕТ ОКО́Н · НЕТ ДВЕ́РИ → НЕТ ДВЕРЕ́Й · НЕТ НОГИ́ → НЕТ НОГ · НЕТ РЫ́БКИ → НЕТ РЫ́БОК · НЕТ ОГУРЦА́ → НЕТ ОГУРЦО́В · НЕТ МЫ́ШИ → НЕТ МЫШЕ́Й
Now whole sentences:
👀 And the riddle – read it alone!
БЕЗ ОКО́Н, БЕЗ ДВЕРЕ́Й –
ПОЛНА́ ГО́РНИЦА ЛЮДЕ́Й.
You can read every letter. око́н, двере́й = no windows, no doors – the «нет» ending for many (one: нет окна́, нет две́ри – many: нет око́н, нет двере́й; see «One – many – none» above); люде́й = of people – from лю́ди (people), a new word: you will meet it in course 2, with «one person» – челове́к; полна́ = full; го́рница = an old word for a room – the bright room of a village house. The room is the cucumber – the «people» are its many seeds! 😄 👀 And the proverb of the day:
КОНЕ́Ц – ДЕ́ЛУ ВЕНЕ́Ц.
Just look and smile – you don't have to learn these now. 😊
The end is the crown of the work.
A job is not finished until it is finished – and the end is the best part, like a wreath on top of a finished tower. Today is the end of course 1 – here is your вене́ц! 🌿 коне́ц = the end · де́лу = to the work (the кому́? ending of День 31!) · вене́ц = an old word for a wreath – a вено́к (and sometimes a crown). It comes from вить – to twist, to weave: something woven of flowers, leaves or metal into a ring. Its relatives: вено́к (a wreath) and ве́ник (a broom – twigs tied together)! The proverb may be a free translation of the Latin Finis coronat opus – «the end crowns the work»: we judge a job by how it ends. Russians also say «Всё хорошо́, что хорошо́ конча́ется» (All's well that ends well) and «Ко́нчил де́ло – гуля́й сме́ло» (Job done – go and play!). Gesture: one hand cuts the air – «коне́ц», then both hands put a wreath on your head on «вене́ц». (No proverb page or mp3 yet.)

Дава́йте дви́гаться! – Let's move! → Course 2 (coming soon)
What is in course 2 «Начина́ем дви́гаться» – We start to move?
- 🗣️ verbs – so you start to talk: я иду́, ты идёшь, он идёт
- ⏳ yesterday and tomorrow
- 👐 many things: две́ри, о́кна – the riddle words!
- 🛒 real life: the shop, the café, the doctor
- 🐈 the same family: Richard gets lost, the cats make the mistakes
Hello! Let's repeat! I'm thinking… What am I thinking about? About a riddle! Richard, come to me! Slinky – to me! Scuffles, come to me! Scuffles – not to me, but to the fridge! Again! We are by the table. And Scuffles is near the fridge. Here is a riddle! No windows, no doors – the room is full of people. What is it? – Hmm… A house? – No! – A bag? – No! – Miaow! – Slinky is by the fridge. What's there? I take out of the fridge… a cucumber! – Miaow?! Not a fish?! – No, Scuffles. A cucumber! The cucumber is the room. And here are the people! Richard, we are talking about a cucumber! Scuffles – away from the cucumber! Off the table – shoo! It's not a wolf, Scuffles. It's a cucumber! – Grrr… – Slinky – well done! Richard – well done! We – well done! The end crowns the work. Well done! Bye!
- ★ Повтори́м предло́ги:
- из, с, от, у, о́коло, без + the «нет» ending: из холоди́льника, у стола́.
- к + the кому́? ending: к холоди́льнику, ко мне.
- о + the где? ending: о зага́дке, об огурце́.
- Many – none: нет око́н, нет двере́й, нет огурцо́в.
- The предло́г tells you the ending. Listen to the end of the word!
- Every word has two links: tap the word to hear it 🔊, tap the picture to open it in the dictionary 📖.
ЛО́НДОН – the stress is on the first syllable, as in English. But Russians say a real, round о: LON-d’n, not LUN-dun. The second о comes after the stress, so it is short and weak (like the a in sofa).
ТЕЛЕФО́Н – not like the English TEL-ih-fohn: the stress is on the last syllable: ti-li-FON (е without stress sounds like a short и). That is why we mark the stress.
🎯 Why does о sound like а?
Cats and cucumbers: many cats jump high when they suddenly see a cucumber behind them – maybe it looks like a snake. Scuffles too! 🐍🥒 (Please don't scare your cat on purpose.)
Russian children love зага́дки – riddles in rhyme, about a cucumber, a cabbage, an onion. English has riddles too: What has a neck but no head? – A bottle.
Коне́ц – де́лу вене́ц = the end crowns the work (Latin Finis coronat opus); English also says All's well that ends well.
огуре́ц ← Greek ágouros – unripe: we eat it green! 🥒
🔬 Почему́ так · Why this way
- A review day with one new word. Words met again after a gap of a few days are remembered much better than words met many times in one go – Rogers · Nakata · Chiu 2025; Wegener et al. 2023.
- All the предло́ги side by side. Forms that look alike are easier to tell apart when you meet them together and notice the difference – the noticing hypothesis, Schmidt 1990.
- The ending must carry the meaning. In the tap quiz only the end of the word tells you the answer – structured input (VanPatten · processing instruction).
- Remember first, then check. Reading five days' words alone, then tapping to check, is retrieval practice – 50 classroom experiments – Agarwal · Nunes · Blunt 2021.
- The whole body. Walk, stop, step back while you say the word – Total Physical Response, Asher 1969; a word said with a matching gesture stays in memory far longer – Macedonia · Knösche 2011.
- A riddle as a reward – and a first look at the «many» ending. The riddle's endings (око́н, двере́й, люде́й) are met with words the student already knows (но́ги – нет ног, ры́бки – нет ры́бок, мы́ши – нет мыше́й), in three simple groups; course 2 practises them – chunks first, the rule later (Wray 2002).
- The action on the loud syllable. A hand beat on the stressed syllable helps adults pronounce new words – Prieto's group, Barcelona.
- 15 minutes a day. Short daily sessions beat one long one – Stoltzfus · Sukseemuang 2018.
- The proverb outside the core. Extras inside the core lower learning of the main thing (Mayer, seductive details); an idiom learned with its picture and story is remembered better (Boers 2001).
- The cat makes the mistakes. Nobody corrects the student. The student laughs and is never the one who is wrong.
- Our own method. Natasha's Language Aerobics – tested for many years with her students.
