Э́то рука́. → Я маха́ю руко́й. · This is a hand. → I wave my hand.
Э́то кольцо́. → Рука́ с кольцо́м. · This is a ring. → A hand with a ring.

Чем? – the thing you do it with, the tool. С кем? С чем? – с = together with. Она́-words: -а → -ой (руко́й, ного́й, ру́чкой). Он / оно́: + -ом / -ем (кольцо́м, па́льцем, с кото́м). · This is the instrumental case – the case of the instrument. Questions: with what? with whom?

В ру́сском языке́ сло́во ча́сто меня́ет коне́ц. Така́я фо́рма сло́ва называ́ется «паде́ж». · In Russian a word often changes its ending. Such a form of the word is called a "case".

Твори́тельный паде́ж – оди́н из шести́ падеже́й. Его́ вопро́сы: кем? чем? · The instrumental is one of the six cases. Its questions: by whom? with what?

Когда́? · When do we need it? Most often:

чем? – пишу́ ру́чкой, ем ло́жкой · the tool – I write with a pen, I eat with a spoon

с кем? с чем? – чай с молоко́м, я с Ната́шей · with – tea with milk, I am with Natasha

кем? – я рабо́таю учи́телем, он был студе́нтом · as – I work as a teacher, he was a student

когда́? – у́тром, ве́чером, зимо́й · when – in the morning, in the evening, in winter (no preposition)

💡 Почему́ «твори́тельный»? От сло́ва твори́ть – де́лать, создава́ть. Э́тот паде́ж говори́т, чем мы де́лаем и с кем: пишу́ ру́чкой, рабо́таю с Ната́шей. · Why "instrumental"? From твори́ть – to make, to create. It is the case of the instrument: with what we do it, and with whom. The Latin name says the same: instrumentalis.
