Russian sense verbs
Russian ns, prons, adjs & nums decline in gender: m, f, n; number: s, p & case: n, g, d, a, i, p. Adv, conj, interj, prep stay the same. Verbs: 3 ten, 2 asp; asp pairs are formed: via pref, suf & lex. Beware of verbs of position and motion!
There are three different types of Russian sense verbs:
- Russian passive sense verbs relate to the things we sense unintentionally, without trying; our senses have simply picked them up; видеть, слышать, обонять, осязать, ощущать, чувствовать: Мы видим солнце днём, а не ночью.
- Russian dynamic sense verbs describe an intentional action, we try make our senses work; смотреть, слушать, нюхать, щупать, обонять: Ночью сколько не смотри в небо, а солнце не увидишь!
- Russian stative sense verbs tell us about what we’re sensing, and how our senses are responding and how they make us feel; выглядеть, пахнуть: Вы так хорошо выглядите!
