День 31 из 37: Дай мне кольцо!
📚 Слова́ дня · Words of the day: 4 – кому́?, дай, бо́льно, лёд – and ★ one question, two endings: кому́? – Ри́чарду, па́льцу · ко́шке, руке́ · мне, тебе́.
🔤 Бу́квы дня · Letters of the day: none. You know all 33 letters. 🎉
⏱ Part 1 = 15 minutes – everybody finishes it. Part 2 = more, only if you want. · 🗺️ All days
· Это не первый день. Почти все слова вы уже знаете.
Stand up! Yesterday's homework: write your name in the air with your finger – «Пишу́ па́льцем!» ☝️ Then with your foot – «Пишу́ ного́й!» 🦶 And: «Чем? – Руко́й!» ✋
You remembered it – that is your first win today. Now look at your ring… Today Scuffles has it – and she gives you the wrong one! 😮
- Don't read anything yet. Listen: who gets the ring? Who gets the fish? Who gets the tea? 🤔
- Scuffles gives a ring – is it Natasha's ring? 💍
- Listen to the end of the word: Ри́чард – чай Ри́чарду, ко́шка – ры́бку ко́шке. Do you hear it? 👂
- Tap the word above to hear it.
Say every word aloud and show it – the gesture is under the picture. The movement falls on the loud syllable.
Tap the word to hear it. Tap the picture to open the word in the dictionary.
🙌 New today – four words, and you can read them:
- кому́? = to whom? It is кто with today's ending: «Кому́ чай? – Ри́чарду!» ❓ (Yesterday: чем? – today: кому́?)
- дай! = give (me)! «Дай мне кольцо́!» 🤲 – and даю́ = I give: «Даю́ лёд Ри́чарду.» (The same word in the dictionary: дава́ть – дать.)
- бо́льно = it hurts: «Па́льцу бо́льно!» – «to the finger – it hurts». 🤕
- лёд = ice. 🧊 Ё is always loud, and Д at the end sounds like Т: «лёт».
🔁 Old friends – from today's story, with the gestures you already know:
👂 Listen first – then read it. You can read every word! Take a pen and a cup – and give them to somebody. 🖊️☕
And you? Hold out a pen to someone (or to your cat, or to a chair) and say: «Ру́чку – Ри́чарду!» – then to yourself: «Ру́чку – мне!» – aloud, or just in your head. Both count. 😊
★ Today's rule – 30 seconds. You heard it already: «Мне тепло́!» (День 27), «Ната́ша, э́то тебе́!» (День 11), «Не всё коту́ ма́сленица» (День 28). Now you see it – one question, кому́?:
- кому́? – the one who gets something: дай мне, чай – Ри́чарду, ры́бку – ко́шке.
- кому́? – the one who feels something: па́льцу бо́льно, руке́ хо́лодно, мне тепло́.
- он and оно́-words → -у (-ю): кот → коту́ · Ри́чард → Ри́чарду · па́лец → па́льцу · кольцо́ → кольцу́
- она́-words → -е: ко́шка → ко́шке · рука́ → руке́ · Ната́ша → Ната́ше
- я → мне · ты → тебе́
No word for «to» – the ending says it: чай Ри́чарду = tea to Richard. Names from other languages don't change: ры́бку – Сли́нки. Scuffles says «чай – Ри́чард» – you know better now. 😄 (Кому́? = да́тельный паде́ж, dative – from дать, to give. The name is for later.)
Say the story aloud, with the actions. Then play: do the action – say the word. Mix them up!
👀 read it and say it – the proverb of the day: Ко́шке игру́шки, а мы́шке слёзки! 🐈🐭
- Hold out your open hand to someone: «Дай мне ру́чку!» 🤲 Give it back: «Ру́чку – тебе́!» 🖊️
- Give three things – to a friend, to your cat, to a chair: «Чай – Ри́чарду! Ры́бку – ко́шке! Игру́шку – мне!» ☕🐟🧸
- Cold water on your hand: «Руке́ хо́лодно!» – pinch your finger gently: «Па́льцу бо́льно!» 🥶🤕
- Speaking is optional – listening and doing count too.
Can you do it without the video? – Молоде́ц! Go to the tap quiz.
Guess, then tap. Look only at the end of the word. A wrong tap is not a mistake – it is a guess. 😊
Хорошо́! Молоде́ц! Two small things left – two minutes.
Ё – always loud, always «йо»:
- лёд · моё · слёзки · ёж 🧊💍🐭🦔 – the voice goes up on Ё. Every time!
- And Д at the end sounds like Т: лёд = «лёт» (like под = «пот», День 6).
- Books for grown-ups often write Е for Ё – the voice still goes up there. Our pages always write Ё.
- 30 seconds, every day. The tongue is a muscle – this is aerobics. 💪
Tomorrow, hold out your open hand to someone and say: «Дай мне ру́чку!» 🤲 Give it back: «Ру́чку – тебе́!» 🖊️ And a little cold water on your hand: «Руке́ хо́лодно!» 🥶
That is the first minute of День 32. You already know it – so День 32 starts with a win.
«Кому́?» – take a little thing (a pen, a cup, a toy) and give it round: to the right, to the left, down to the cat, back to yourself. Natasha asks to whom – you give it. 👂 Listen and play – you can read every line!
| Say | Do |
|---|---|
| Кому́ ру́чку? – Ри́чарду! | hold out a pen to the right 🖊️ |
| Кому́ ча́шку? – Ната́ше! | a cup to the left ☕ |
| Кому́ ры́бку? – Ко́шке! | bend down – a fish for the cat 🐟 |
| Кому́ лёд? – Па́льцу! Бр-р-р! | ice on your finger – shiver 🧊 |
| Кому́ игру́шку? – Мне! Мне! | hug the toy 🧸 |
| Ска́ффлз? – Мя́у! – И тебе́! | a toy for the cat too 🐈 |
- Play it three times – a little faster each time. Then a friend asks «Кому́?» – and you give.
- Соро́ка-белобо́ка comes back (День 19)! Say the finger rhyme and bend your fingers one by one: «Э́тому дала́, э́тому дала́…» – кому́? – э́тому па́льцу! 🖐 (дала́ = she gave – from дать, like дай! And э́тому has today's ending too.)
- Gesture → word. Don't look at the cards. Make a gesture – say the word. Mixed order: 🎁 кому́? · 🤲 дай · 🤕 бо́льно · 🧊 лёд · 💍 кольцо́
- Yesterday comes back. Mix in four words from День 30: чем? ✊ · с 🔗 · ло́жка 🥄 · дива́н 🛋️.
Кому́? = the one who gets it. Чем? (yesterday) = the tool you do it with. 😄
- Аэро́бика: Ру́ки 1 – the hand, in the hand, from the hand – and to the hand: к руке́, today's ending! With her video
- Аэро́бика: Ру́ки 2 – Natasha and Maya: all the forms of рука́, with her video
- Аэро́бика: Па́льцы 1 – the fingers, the ring from finger to finger, and the magpie rhyme, with her video
The same words as today – watch, listen and move with her. 😊
You know all 33 letters. Read every word aloud, then tap it to check. ✋
🙌 Today's words:
★ who feels it? МНЕ ХО́ЛОДНО · МНЕ ТЕПЛО́ · ПА́ЛЬЦУ БО́ЛЬНО · РУКЕ́ ХО́ЛОДНО · КОТУ́ ТЕПЛО́
Now whole sentences:
👀 And the proverb of the day:
КО́ШКЕ ИГРУ́ШКИ, А МЫ́ШКЕ СЛЁЗКИ!
💡 For она́-words the ending looks like где?: в руке́ (where) – руке́ хо́лодно (to the hand). The question tells you which. Names from other languages don't change: Сли́нки, Ска́ффлз.
💡 More, with the ring story: Дай мне кольцо́ – the case lesson page.
Just look and smile – you don't have to learn these now. 😊
Toys for the cat – little tears for the mouse.
Scuffles played with the little toy ring – fun for her! But Natasha's finger hurt. Russians say it when one has fun and another one pays for it: the cat plays – the mouse cries. And look – both words have today's ending: ко́шке, мы́шке (мы́шка = a little мышь, День 13; слёзки = little tears, from слеза́). English has an old saying like it: What is play to the cat is death to the mouse. Gesture: paws play on «ко́шке игру́шки», one finger draws a tear down your cheek on «мы́шке слёзки». (Proverb page and mp3 to add.)
The ring is big… Oh! The ring fell! – Scuffles, give me the ring! Give! – Miaow! – Thank you, Scuffles! Oh! The ring is small! This is not my ring! It's a toy! Oh! My finger hurts! It hurts! – Natasha, what? Does it hurt? – Yes! My finger hurts! – Here is ice! – Brrr! My hand is cold! And now it doesn't hurt. Thank you, Richard! Scuffles, where is my ring? Give me my ring! – Miaow! No! – Scuffles! No, no, no! The ring is not for you, it's for me! – Grrr… – Miaow! – Here is my ring! Thank you, Slinky! Who gets a fish? Slinky! Slinky – well done! And who gets the tea? Richard! – Miaow! And me? – Here's a toy for you – just like that! Toys for the cat, tears for the mouse! Well done! Bye!
- ★ One question – кому́?
- The one who gets: дай мне, чай – Ри́чарду.
- The one who feels: па́льцу бо́льно, руке́ хо́лодно.
- он, оно́ → -у: коту́, Ри́чарду, па́льцу.
- она́ → -е: ко́шке, руке́. я → мне, ты → тебе́.
- Every new word has two links: tap the word to hear it 🔊, tap the picture to open it in the dictionary 📖.
ЛО́НДОН – the stress is on the first syllable, as in English. But Russians say a real, round о: LON-d’n, not LUN-dun. The second о comes after the stress, so it is short and weak (like the a in sofa).
ТЕЛЕФО́Н – not like the English TEL-ih-fohn: the stress is on the last syllable: ti-li-FON (е without stress sounds like a short и). That is why we mark the stress.
🎯 Why does о sound like а?
English needs «to»: give the tea to Richard. Russian needs only the ending: чай Ри́чарду. No extra word! ☕👨
«Мне хо́лодно» – Russian doesn't say «I am cold», it says «to me – it is cold». The same with «Па́льцу бо́льно» – «to the finger – it hurts». 🥶
Да́тельный (dative) comes from дать – to give; the Latin name dativus comes from dare – to give. The same idea! 🎁
You met it on День 28 without knowing: «Не всё коту́ ма́сленица» – коту́ = for the cat. 😄
Ко́шке игру́шки, а мы́шке слёзки ≈ What is play to the cat is death to the mouse.
🔬 Почему́ так · Why this way
- The ending must carry the meaning. In the tap quiz only the end of the word tells you the answer – structured input, the learner must use the form to understand (VanPatten · processing instruction).
- Chunks first, the rule later. «Мне тепло́» (День 27), «Э́то тебе́!» (День 11), «Не всё коту́ ма́сленица» (День 28) were heard as whole blocks; today the pattern behind them gets a name – formulaic language (Wray 2002).
- A short rule after many meetings. Short explicit teaching works better than none – 49 studies – Norris · Ortega 2000.
- Noticing. The orange endings make the change visible – Schmidt 1990, noticing.
- Giving with the hands. You hold out a thing and give it – the dative is felt before it is named – Total Physical Response, Asher 1969; gestures with words – Macedonia · Knösche 2011.
- The action on the loud syllable. A hand beat on the stressed syllable helps adults pronounce new words. Studies with adults – Prieto's group, Barcelona.
- Remember first, then check. Retrieval practice – 50 classroom experiments – Agarwal · Nunes · Blunt 2021.
- 15 minutes a day. Short daily sessions beat one long one – Stoltzfus · Sukseemuang 2018.
- The proverb outside the core. Extras inside the core lower learning of the main thing (Mayer, seductive details); an idiom learned with its picture and story is remembered better (Boers 2001).
- The cat makes the mistakes. Nobody corrects the student. The student laughs and is never the one who is wrong.
- Our own method. Natasha's Language Aerobics – tested for many years with her students.
