День 30 из 37: Рукой? Ногой? Лапой!
📚 Слова́ дня · Words of the day: 2 – чем?, с – and ★ two questions, one ending: чем? – руко́й, па́льцем · с чем? – с кольцо́м.
🔤 Бу́квы дня · Letters of the day: none. You know all 33 letters. 🎉
⏱ Part 1 = 15 minutes – everybody finishes it. Part 2 = more, only if you want. · 🗺️ All days
· Это не первый день. Почти все слова вы уже знаете.
Stand up! Yesterday's homework: hide one thing – «Чего́ нет? – Ру́чки нет!» 🙈 Find it: «Вот ру́чка!» 🖊️ And to someone sad: «Ничего́!» 🙂
You remembered it – that is your first win today. Now look at your ring: it is big… Today it rolls under the sofa! 😮
- Don't read anything yet. Listen: Natasha tries three times – with what? 🤔
- Who gets the ring out – Scuffles with her head, or Slinky with her paw? 🐈
- Listen to the end of the word: рука́ – руко́й, нога́ – ного́й. Do you hear it? 👂
- Tap the word above to hear it.
Say every word aloud and show it – the gesture is under the picture. The movement falls on the loud syllable.
Tap the word to hear it. Tap the picture to open the word in the dictionary.
🙌 New today – two words, and you can read them:
- чем? = with what? It is что with today's ending: «Чем? – Руко́й!» ❓ (Yesterday: чего́? – today: чем?)
- с = with, together with: «Сли́нки с кольцо́м!» – Slinky and the ring together. 🐈💍 (One letter – one word! Say it together with the next word: «скольцо́м».)
🔁 Old friends – from today's story, with the gestures you already know:
👂 Listen first – then read it. You can read every word! Take a pen and write in the air. ✍️
- Ната́ша: Вот ру́чка. 🖊️ Пишу́. Чем пишу́?
Сли́нки: Ру́чкой! — Ната́ша: Да! Так! 😊
- Ната́ша (writes in the air with her finger): А сейча́с? Чем пишу́? ☝️
Ска́ффлз: Па́лец! — Ната́ша: Нет! Па́льцем. — Ска́ффлз: Р-р-р… па́льцем.
- Ри́чард: А я пишу́ карандашо́м! ✏️ — Ната́ша: Ри́чард – молоде́ц!
And you? Write in the air and say: «Пишу́ ру́чкой!» – then with your finger: «Пишу́ па́льцем!» – aloud, or just in your head. Both count. 😊
★ Today's rule – 30 seconds. You said it for many days: «Бана́н под столо́м» (День 6), «Я под газе́той» (День 7), «под сту́лом» (День 26). Now you see it – two questions, one ending:
- чем? – the tool, what you do it with: пишу́ ру́чкой, беру́ ла́пой.
- с кем? с чем? – с = together with: Сли́нки с кольцо́м, Ната́ша с Ри́чардом.
- он and оно́-words → -ом (-ем): каранда́ш → карандашо́м · кольцо́ → с кольцо́м · па́лец → па́льцем
- она́-words → -ой (-ей): рука́ → руко́й · нога́ → ного́й · ла́па → ла́пой · ло́жка → ло́жкой
A tool – no «с»: пишу́ ру́чкой. Together – with «с»: с Ри́чардом. Scuffles says «пишу́ па́лец» – you know better now. 😄 (Чем? = твори́тельный паде́ж, instrumental – the name is for later.)
Say the story aloud, with the actions. Then play: do the action – say the word. Mix them up!
👀 read it and say it – the proverb of the day: Бери́ не си́лой, а уме́ньем! 💪🧠
- Put a ring (or a coin) on the floor. Pick it up and say: «Чем? – Руко́й!» ✋ Now try: «Па́льцем! Ного́й!» ☝️🦶
- Write in the air: «Пишу́ ру́чкой!» – «Пишу́ карандашо́м!» 🖊️✏️
- Hold something and walk: «Иду́ с кольцо́м!» / «Иду́ с ло́жкой!» 🥄
- Speaking is optional – listening and doing count too.
Can you do it without the video? – Молоде́ц! Go to the tap quiz.
Guess, then tap. Look only at the end of the word. A wrong tap is not a mistake – it is a guess. 😊
Хорошо́! Молоде́ц! Two small things left – two minutes.
The same ending -ой – sometimes loud, sometimes quiet:
- Loud – a clear ОЙ: руко́й · ного́й · голово́й ✋🦶🙆
- Quiet – it sounds almost like «ай»: ла́пой = «ла́пай» · ру́чкой = «ру́чкай» · ло́жкой = «ло́жкай» 🐾🖊️🥄
- The loud syllable tells you: listen where your voice goes up!
- 30 seconds, every day. The tongue is a muscle – this is aerobics. 💪
Tomorrow, write your name in the air with your finger and say: «Пишу́ па́льцем!» ☝️ Then with your foot: «Пишу́ ного́й!» 🦶 And ask someone: «Чем?» – show your hand: «Руко́й!» ✋
That is the first minute of День 31. You already know it – so День 31 starts with a win.
«Пишу́!» – write the word КОТ in the air, big and slow. Natasha says what you write with – you write with it. This is real aerobics! 💪 👂 Listen and play – you can read every line!
| Say | Do |
|---|---|
| Пишу́ ру́чкой! | write КОТ in the air with a pen 🖊️ |
| Пишу́ па́льцем! | with one finger ☝️ |
| Пишу́ руко́й! | with your whole hand – big letters ✋ |
| Пишу́ ного́й! | stand on one foot, write with the other 🦶 |
| Пишу́ голово́й! | write with your head – slowly! 🙆 |
| Пишу́ но́сом! | write with the tip of your nose 👃 |
| Ска́ффлз? – Пишу́ ла́пой! – Мя́у! | a cat's paw in the air – a wobbly line 🐾 |
- Play it three times – a little faster each time. Then a friend says the lines – and you write.
- Gesture → word. Don't look at the cards. Make a gesture – say the word. Mixed order: ✊ чем? · 🔗 с · ✋ рука́ · 🦶 нога́ · 🐾 ла́па
- Yesterday comes back. Mix in four words from День 29: чего́? ❓ · ничего́ 🙂 · есть 🙌 · нет 🙅.
A tool has no «с»: пишу́ па́льцем. But together – «с»: иду́ с кольцо́м. 😄
- Аэро́бика: Ру́ки 2 – Natasha and Maya move their hands, and you hear руко́й, рука́ми again and again, with her video
- Аэро́бика: Па́льцы 1 – the fingers, with her video
- Аэро́бика: Но́ги 1 – the feet and the loud syllable, with her video
The same words as today – watch, listen and move with her. 😊
With my head – exercises with every part of the body: пра́вой руко́й, ле́вой ного́й…
It is today's title: руко́й? ного́й? ла́пой! Tap the title – the page opens; the bar at its top brings you back here.
A sandwich with pâté – хлеб с сы́ром, хлеб с колбасо́й… Is it tasty?
Today's с чем?: с паште́том, с колбасо́й. Tap the title – the page opens; the bar at its top brings you back here.
You know all 33 letters. Read every word aloud, then tap it to check. ✋
🙌 Today's words:
Now whole sentences:
👀 And the proverb of the day:
БЕРИ́ НЕ СИ́ЛОЙ, А УМЕ́НЬЕМ!
💡 -ом or -ем? -ой or -ей? After ж, ш, ч, щ, ц a quiet ending is written with е: па́льцем, Ната́шей; a loud one with о: карандашо́м, кольцо́м. Names from other languages don't change: с Ска́ффлз, с Сли́нки.
💡 More, with the ring story: Руко́й, ного́й, па́льцем – the case lesson page.
Just look and smile – you don't have to learn these now. 😊
Take it not by force, but by skill.
Scuffles pushed with her big head – that is си́ла (force), and it did not work. Slinky put in her thin paw – that is уме́нье (skill, knowing how – from уме́ть, to be able), and the ring came out! Russians say it when someone pulls and pushes too hard: stop – think – do it cleverly. And look – both words have today's ending: си́лой, уме́ньем! English says: Brains, not brawn. Gesture: show a strong arm on «не си́лой», tap your forehead on «уме́ньем». (Proverb page and mp3 to add.)
The ring is big… Oh! The ring fell! Where to? Under the sofa! Where is the ring? Under the sofa! I take the ring… With what? With my hand! No! With a finger? – No! With my foot? – No! – Natasha, not like that! Like this – with a spoon! Oh… No. – Scuffles – with your head? No! The head is big! – Grrr… – Miaow! – With the paw! Here is the ring! Slinky with the ring! Slinky – well done! – Thank you, Slinky! – Scuffles! With your paw – under the sofa?! No, no, no! Shoo! – Grrr… – Miaow! – The ring – into my hand. I walk with the ring in my hand! Brains, not brawn! Well done! Bye!
- ★ Two questions, one ending:
- чем? – the tool: пишу́ ру́чкой, беру́ руко́й.
- с кем? с чем? – together: с кольцо́м, с Ри́чардом.
- он, оно́ → -ом (-ем): карандашо́м, кольцо́м, па́льцем.
- она́ → -ой (-ей): руко́й, ного́й, ла́пой.
- Every new word has two links: tap the word to hear it 🔊, tap the picture to open it in the dictionary 📖.
ЛО́НДОН – the stress is on the first syllable, as in English. But Russians say a real, round о: LON-d’n, not LUN-dun. The second о comes after the stress, so it is short and weak (like the a in sofa).
ТЕЛЕФО́Н – not like the English TEL-ih-fohn: the stress is on the last syllable: ti-li-FON (е without stress sounds like a short и). That is why we mark the stress.
🎯 Why does о sound like а?
English has one «with» for two jobs: with a pen (a tool) and with Richard (together). Russian: a tool – only the ending, no «с»: ру́чкой. Together – «с» and the ending: с Ри́чардом. 🖊️👨
Never say «с ру́чкой» when you write with it – that means «I have a pen with me»! 😄
Твори́тельный (instrumental) comes from твори́ть – to make, to create: the case of the thing you make something with. 🔨
ру́чка = «a little hand» – a pen, and also a door handle: you hold them in your hand. 🚪
Бери́ не си́лой, а уме́ньем ≈ Brains, not brawn.
🔬 Почему́ так · Why this way
- The ending must carry the meaning. In the tap quiz only the end of the word tells you the answer – structured input, the learner must use the form to understand (VanPatten · processing instruction).
- Chunks first, the rule later. «Под столо́м» (День 6), «под газе́той» (День 7), «под сту́лом» (День 26) were heard and said as whole blocks; today the pattern behind them gets a name – formulaic language (Wray 2002).
- A short rule after many meetings. Short explicit teaching works better than none – 49 studies – Norris · Ortega 2000.
- Noticing. The green endings make the change visible – Schmidt 1990, noticing.
- The body is the tool. Writing with your finger, hand, foot and nose – the instrumental is felt before it is named – Total Physical Response, Asher 1969; gestures with words – Macedonia · Knösche 2011.
- The action on the loud syllable. A hand beat on the stressed syllable helps adults pronounce new words. Studies with adults – Prieto's group, Barcelona.
- Remember first, then check. Retrieval practice – 50 classroom experiments – Agarwal · Nunes · Blunt 2021.
- 15 minutes a day. Short daily sessions beat one long one – Stoltzfus · Sukseemuang 2018.
- The proverb outside the core. Extras inside the core lower learning of the main thing (Mayer, seductive details); an idiom learned with its picture and story is remembered better (Boers 2001).
- The cat makes the mistakes. Nobody corrects the student. The student laughs and is never the one who is wrong.
- Our own method. Natasha's Language Aerobics – tested for many years with her students.
