День 15 из 37: Где Скаффлз? В сумке!
📚 Слова́ дня · Words of the day: 4 – ру́чка, каранда́ш, кни́га, куда́ – and you can read them all!
🔤 Бу́квы дня · Letters of the day: none. You know all 33 letters – from today you can read everything. 🎉
⏱ Part 1 = 15 minutes – everybody finishes it. Part 2 = more, only if you want. · 🗺️ All days
Stand up! Yesterday's homework: point at your own things – «Э́то мой чай. Э́то моя́ ча́шка.» ☕ – then at a thing of your cat or a friend: «Э́то твоя́ ми́ска!» 🐈
You remembered it – that is your first win today. Today we play hide-and-seek – пря́тки – and ask где? = where? 🔍
- Don't read anything yet. Listen: where does Slinky hide? 🪟
- What gives Scuffles away? 🐈
- Where does Scuffles put the fish at the end? 🐟
- Tap the words above to hear them.
Say every word aloud and show it – the gesture is under the picture. The movement falls on the loud syllable.
Tap the word to hear it. Tap the picture to open the word in the dictionary.
🎁 New today – and you can read them:
- где? = where? – a thing stays in its place: «Где кни́га? – На по́лке.» (hand over your eyes, as on День 7)
- куда́? = where to? – a thing (or a cat!) is moving: «Ска́ффлз, куда́? – В су́мку!» Just listen to it today.
- ру́чка = a pen – and also a little hand (День 10)! A pen is the little hand that writes. ✍️
🔁 Old friends – the places in today's story, with the gestures you already know:
👂 Listen first – then read it. You can read every word! Pat the place on «на сту́ле», «на столе́», «в су́мке». 🤸
And you? Put your pen somewhere and ask: «Где ру́чка?» – «На столе́!» – aloud, or just in your head. Both count. 😊 🌱 The seed of the day: где? → the end -е. You heard it from День 4 – now you see it: стол → на столе́ · стул → на сту́ле · су́мка → в су́мке · окно́ → на окне́ · по́лка → на по́лке · па́лец → на па́льце. Scuffles says «на стол» – Natasha says «Нет! На столе́.» And куда́? is different: the cat is moving – «в су́мку!» Just listen to that one – it comes back soon.
Say the story aloud, with the actions. Then play: do the action – say the word. Mix them up!
👀 read it and say it – the proverb of the day: Всяк сверчо́к знай свой шесто́к. 🦗
- Hide a thing and ask yourself: Где ру́чка? – find it: На столе́! В су́мке! 🖊️
- Point and say: Кни́га на по́лке. Каранда́ш на столе́. 📖✏️
- Your cat (or your bag) jumps: Куда́? – В су́мку! 👜
- Speaking is optional – listening and doing count too.
Can you do it without the video? – Молоде́ц! Go to the tap quiz.
Guess, then tap. A wrong tap is not a mistake – it is a guess. 😊
Хорошо́! Молоде́ц! Two small things left – two minutes.
Today's end -е does something to the sound before it:
- стол → на стоЛЕ́ – the Л becomes soft, like l in leaf. Not «столэ́»!
- стул → на сту́ЛЕ · су́мка → в су́мКЕ (a soft К, like k in key) · окно́ → на окНЕ́ (soft Н, like n in new).
- Hard – soft: стол – столе́ · су́мка – су́мке · по́лка – по́лке.
- Smile a little on Е – the tongue goes up, and the sound becomes soft. 😊
- 30 seconds, every day. The tongue is a muscle – this is aerobics. 💪
Tomorrow, hide your pen – then ask «Где ру́чка?» and find it: «В су́мке! Вот ру́чка!» 🖊️👜
That is the first minute of День 16. You already know it – so День 16 starts with a win.
«Ру́чка на голове́!» – take a pen and put it where Natasha says. Every place ends in -е – feel it in your hands! 🖊️ 👂 Listen and play – you can read every line!
| Say | Do |
|---|---|
| Вот ру́чка! | show your pen high on РУЧ 🖊️ |
| Ру́чка на голове́! | put it on your head on ВЕ (careful – keep still!) 🙆 |
| Ру́чка на плече́! | put it on your shoulder on ЧЕ |
| Ру́чка в руке́! | hold it tight in your fist on КЕ ✊ |
| Ру́чка на столе́! | lay it on the table on ЛЕ |
| Ру́чка в су́мке! | drop it into your bag on СУМ 👜 |
| Где ру́чка? – Вот ру́чка! | hand over your eyes on ГДЕ – take it out and show it on ВОТ 🎉 |
| Ой! Ру́чка на полу́! | Scuffles's line – drop it on the floor on ЛУ, hands on your cheeks 🙀 |
- Play it three times – a little faster each time. Then do it with a pencil: «Каранда́ш на голове́!» ✏️
- Gesture → word. Don't look at the cards. Make a gesture – say the word. Mixed order: 🖊️ · ✏️ · 📖 · 👜 · 🪑 · 🪟 · 📦
- Yesterday comes back. Mix in four words from День 14: твой 🎁 · я́щик 📦 · сыр 🧀 · мышь 🐭.
на полу́ – a little rebel: «пол» does not take -е, it says «на полу́» (you heard it on День 6). Just copy it. 😄
Я иду́ иска́ть! 🙈
Кто не спря́тался – 🫣
Я не винова́т! 🤷
One, two, three, four, five – I'm coming to look! Whoever didn't hide – it's not my fault!
A folk rhyme. Gesture: open your fingers one by one on «раз, два, три, четы́ре, пять», cover your eyes, then take big steps on «я иду́ иска́ть», look around on «кто не спря́тался», shrug and smile on «не винова́т». Natasha says it at the start of today's video. You can read every word – but you don't have to learn it. Just say it and smile. 😊
Numbers 1–10 – count with the video from оди́н to де́сять, and the rocket flies! 🚀

👀 And the proverb of the day:
ВСЯК СВЕРЧО́К ЗНАЙ СВОЙ ШЕСТО́К.
Every cricket, know your own ledge = know your place.
In an old Russian house a cricket (сверчо́к) lived in the warm corner by the big stove and sang there at night. шесто́к = the little ledge in front of the stove – the cricket's own place. Russians say it when someone goes where they shouldn't – like a cat on the table! Scuffles's place is her chair. 🪑 всяк is an old short word for «вся́кий» (every), свой = your own. Gesture: shake your finger on «всяк сверчо́к», point down at your own place on «свой шесто́к». (Proverb page and mp3 to add.)
One, two, three, four, five – I'm coming to look! Where is Slinky? On the chair? – No! In the box? – No! On the window sill? – Yes! Here is Slinky! Slinky is on the window sill. And where is Scuffles? Scuffles is in the bag! And her tail is on the floor! Where is the pen? – On the table. Where is the pencil? – In the bag. Where is the book? – On the shelf. Scuffles, where to? – Into the bag! – Where is Scuffles? – In the bag! – Natasha, where is my book? – On the shelf! – Slinky, well done! The fish is in the bowl. Scuffles! No, no, no! The fish goes in the bowl, and the cat goes on the chair! Shoo! – Grrr… Every cricket, know your own ledge. Well done! Bye!
- Где? = where? The answer: в (in) or на (on) + the word with -е: на столе́, на сту́ле, в су́мке, на окне́.
- You have heard it since День 4 («Сок в стака́не») – today you see the rule. ★
- Куда́? = where to? – something moves: «В су́мку!» Just listen – it comes back soon.
- A few words are rebels: «на полу́». Just copy them.
- Every new word has two links: tap the word to hear it 🔊, tap the picture to open it in the dictionary 📖.
ЛО́НДОН – the stress is on the first syllable, as in English. But Russians say a real, round о: LON-d’n, not LUN-dun. The second о comes after the stress, so it is short and weak (like the a in sofa).
ТЕЛЕФО́Н – not like the English TEL-ih-fohn: the stress is on the last syllable: ti-li-FON (е without stress sounds like a short и). That is why we mark the stress.
🎯 Why does о sound like а?
КУДА́ – old English had this word too: whither? = where to? English lost it – Russian kept it. 🧭
КАРАНДА́Ш comes from Turkic kara taş = black stone – the black lead inside. ✏️
РУ́ЧКА = a little hand – and a pen, and a door handle. One small word, three jobs! ✍️
ПРЯ́ТКИ = hide-and-seek – from пря́тать (to hide). 🙈
СВЕРЧО́К – the talking cricket in the Russian Pinocchio story («Золото́й клю́чик») is «Говоря́щий Сверчо́к». 🦗
🔬 Почему́ так · Why this way
- Many examples first, the rule later. The student has heard «в стака́не», «на столе́», «в су́мке» for ten days; today the ending is shown. Learners must first notice a form in what they hear before they can learn it – the noticing hypothesis, Schmidt 1990. The rule comes as a short box after the examples, not before (Wray 2002, formulaic language).
- A gesture that matches the word. A word said with a matching gesture, made by the learner, stays in memory far longer than a word only heard. Study with adults – Macedonia · Knösche 2011 (Max Planck Institute, Leipzig). Watching the gesture helps almost as much as doing it – 7 studies, 309 adults – Oppici et al. 2023.
- Put the pen on your head. Moving a real thing to the place you name ties the ending to a body memory – the old Total Physical Response (Asher 1969).
- The action on the loud syllable. A hand beat on the stressed syllable helps adults pronounce new words. Studies with adults – Prieto's group, Barcelona.
- Remember first, then check. Reading alone, then tapping to check, is retrieval practice – 50 classroom experiments – Agarwal · Nunes · Blunt 2021. The first minute (yesterday's homework) works the same way.
- 15 minutes a day, not one long lesson. Short daily sessions beat one long one. Study with adults – Stoltzfus · Sukseemuang 2018.
- The proverb outside the core. Extras inside the core lower learning of the main thing (Mayer, seductive details); an idiom learned with its picture and story is remembered better than with a bare translation (Boers 2001).
- The cat makes the mistakes. Nobody corrects the student. The student laughs and is never the one who is wrong.
- Our own method. Natasha's Language Aerobics – tested for many years with her students.
