День 29 из 37: Кольца нет!
📚 Слова́ дня · Words of the day: 2 – чего́?, ничего́ – and ★ one question, one ending: чего́ нет? – нет кольца́ · без ру́чки.
🔤 Бу́квы дня · Letters of the day: none. You know all 33 letters. 🎉
⏱ Part 1 = 15 minutes – everybody finishes it. Part 2 = more, only if you want. · 🗺️ All days
· Это не первый день. Почти все слова вы уже знаете.
Stand up! Yesterday's homework: look at a calendar – «Сейча́с ноя́брь!» 📅 Then the four seasons with your hands: «Зима́! Весна́! Ле́то! О́сень!» ❄️🌱☀️🍂
You remembered it – that is your first win today. Now look at your hand: is your ring there? Today it goes missing! 😮
- Don't read anything yet. Listen: where does Natasha look for the ring? On the table? In the bag? 🤔
- What does Slinky find under the sofa – the ring or Richard's pen? 🐈
- Listen to the end of the word: кольцо́ – нет кольца́. Do you hear the difference? 👂
- Tap the word above to hear it.
Say every word aloud and show it – the gesture is under the picture. The movement falls on the loud syllable.
Tap the word to hear it. Tap the picture to open the word in the dictionary.
🙌 New today – two words, and you can read them:
- чего́? = of what? what is missing? It is что with the ending of today: «Чего́ нет? – Кольца́ нет!» ❓ (Say «чиво́» – Г sounds like В, as in сего́дня, День 22.)
- ничего́ = nothing – and also «it's OK, never mind!» Richard says it to Natasha: «Ничего́, Ната́ша!» 🙂 (Say «ничиво́».)
🔁 Old friends – from today's story, with the gestures you already know:
👂 Listen first – then read it. You can read every word! Show the thing – then hide it behind your back. 🙈
- Ри́чард (at the fridge): А сы́ра нет! 🧀 — Ната́ша: Ри́чард – молоде́ц! Сы́ра нет.
And you? Hide your pen and say: «Ру́чки нет!» – then your ring: «Кольца́ нет!» – aloud, or just in your head. Both count. 😊
★ Today's rule – 30 seconds. You heard it for many days: «нет молока́» (День 16), «без ша́пки» (День 27). Now you see it – one question, one ending:
- чего́ нет? – after нет and без the end of the word changes:
- он and оно́-words → -а: сыр → нет сы́ра · кольцо́ → без кольца́ (-й → -я: чай → нет ча́я)
- она́-words → -ы: ры́ба → нет ры́бы · after к, г, х, ж, ш, ч, щ → -и: ру́чка → нет ру́чки · ча́шка → нет ча́шки
«Кольцо́ есть. – Кольца́ нет.» Listen to the end of the word – and you know if the thing is there or not. Scuffles says «ча́шка нет» – you know better now. 😄 (Чего́? = роди́тельный паде́ж, genitive – the name is for later. You also hear it in «у Ри́чарда», «ру́чка Ри́чарда», «два кота́», «пе́рвого ию́ня» – just listen.)
Say the story aloud, with the actions. Then play: do the action – say the word. Mix them up!
👀 read it and say it – the proverb of the day: Нет ху́да без добра́! 🌈
- Ring (or ribbon) off, hide it: «Чего́ нет? – Кольца́ нет!» Ring on: «Вот кольцо́!» 💍
- Hide your pen: «Ру́чки нет!» Drink your tea to the end: «Ча́я нет!» 🖊️☕
- Someone is sad? Say: «Ничего́!» 🙂
- Speaking is optional – listening and doing count too.
Can you do it without the video? – Молоде́ц! Go to the tap quiz.
Guess, then tap. Look only at the end of the word. A wrong tap is not a mistake – it is a guess. 😊
Хорошо́! Молоде́ц! Two small things left – two minutes.
In some words an О or an Е runs away when the ending changes:
- па́лец → на па́льце → нет па́льца ✋
- носо́к → нет носка́ 🧦
- пода́рок → нет пода́рка 🎁
- Say them slowly, then fast: па́-лец – па́-льца. The Е is gone – but the Ь stays to keep the Л soft!
- 30 seconds, every day. The tongue is a muscle – this is aerobics. 💪
Tomorrow, hide one thing – your pen or your ring – and say: «Чего́ нет? – Ру́чки нет!» 🙈 Find it: «Вот ру́чка!» 🖊️ And if someone is sad: «Ничего́!» 🙂
That is the first minute of День 30. You already know it – so День 30 starts with a win.
You may stop here – see you tomorrow: День 30 · Руко́й? Ного́й? Ла́пой! ▶
«Есть – нет!» – show it or hide it! Natasha says a line: есть – you show the thing, palms up; нет – you hide it behind your back and shake your head. 👂 Listen and play – you can read every line!
| Say | Do |
|---|---|
| Ру́чка есть! | show the pen on both palms 🖊️ |
| Ру́чки нет! | hide it behind your back, shake your head 🙈 |
| Кольцо́ есть! | show your ring 💍 |
| Кольца́ нет! | hide your hand behind your back 🙈 |
| Ча́шка есть! | show the cup ☕ |
| Ча́шки нет! | hide it 🙈 |
| Ло́жка есть! | show a spoon 🥄 |
| Ло́жки нет! | hide it 🙈 |
| Ска́ффлз есть? – Ска́ффлз нет! – Мя́у! – Ска́ффлз есть! | look round, shrug – then laugh: there she is! 🐈 |
- Play it three times – a little faster each time. Then a friend says the lines – and you show or hide.
- Gesture → word. Don't look at the cards. Make a gesture – say the word. Mixed order: ❓ чего́? · 🙂 ничего́ · 🙅 нет · 🙌 есть
- Yesterday comes back. Mix in four words from День 28: зима́ ❄️ · весна́ 🌱 · ле́то ☀️ · о́сень 🍂.
Names like Ска́ффлз and Сли́нки don't change: нет Ска́ффлз! But Ри́чард does: нет Ри́чарда! 😄
- Что есть и чего́ нет – what there is and what there isn't, with her video
- Там что́-то есть! – «Что́-то есть! – Ничего́ нет!», with her video
- У меня́ пропа́л мой но́сик – the game where your nose goes missing (like День 8!)
The same words as today – watch, listen and say them with her. 😊
What there is and what there isn't – Natasha pours the sugar out: есть са́хар – нет са́хара!
Today's ★ rule: нет + the new ending. Tap the title – the page opens; the bar at its top brings you back here.
Something is there! – what is in the red bag? In the black bag? Remember – Natasha asks you at the end!
что́-то есть – ничего́ нет: today's есть ↔ нет. Tap the title – the page opens; the bar at its top brings you back here.
You know all 33 letters. Read every word aloud, then tap it to check. ✋
🙌 Today's words: ЧЕГО́? · НИЧЕГО́ · НЕТ · БЕЗ · ЕСТЬ
★ есть – нет: КОЛЬЦО́ – НЕТ КОЛЬЦА́ · РУ́ЧКА – НЕТ РУ́ЧКИ · ЧАЙ – НЕТ ЧА́Я · СЫР – НЕТ СЫ́РА · ЧА́ШКА – НЕТ ЧА́ШКИ · МОЛОКО́ – НЕТ МОЛОКА́

👀 And the proverb of the day:
НЕТ ХУ́ДА БЕЗ ДОБРА́!
💡 -ы or -и? After к, г, х, ж, ш, ч, щ always -и (the same rule as ру́ки, но́ги). Names from other languages don't change: нет Ска́ффлз, нет Сли́нки.
💡 More, with the ring story: Кольца́ нет! – the case lesson page.
Just look and smile – you don't have to learn these now. 😊
There is no bad without some good.
The ring was gone – that was bad. But looking for it, Slinky found Richard's lost pen – that was good! Russians say it to comfort someone after a small trouble. ху́до = bad (an old word; today we say пло́хо), добро́ = good. And look – both words have today's ending: нет ху́да, без добра́! English says: Every cloud has a silver lining. Gesture: thumb down on «нет ху́да», thumb up on «без добра́». (Proverb page and mp3 to add.)
I wash my hands. The ring – onto the table. I put the ring on the table. – Natasha, I want tea! – Here is the tea. The tea is in the cup. – And where is my pen? The pen is gone! – I don't know, Richard! – Oh! Where is the ring? What is missing? The ring is gone! There is no ring on my finger! On the table? – No ring! Under the table? – No ring! In the bag? – No ring! I am without my ring… – Never mind, Natasha! – Miaow! – The ring? No… Oh! Here is a pen! Richard's pen! – My pen! Thank you, Slinky! – Oh! The tea is gone… and in the cup – the ring! – The ring in the cup?! Who did this? – Miaow… – Scuffles! A cat on the table?! No, no, no! A ring is not a toy! Shoo! – Grrr… – The ring is on my finger! – And the pen is with me! – Every cloud has a silver lining! Well done! Bye!
- ★ One question, one ending:
- чего́ нет? – after нет and без:
- он, оно́ → -а (-я): нет сы́ра, нет кольца́, нет ча́я.
- она́ → -ы / -и: нет ры́бы, нет ру́чки.
- есть ↔ нет – there is ↔ there isn't.
- Every new word has two links: tap the word to hear it 🔊, tap the picture to open it in the dictionary 📖.
ЛО́НДОН – the stress is on the first syllable, as in English. But Russians say a real, round о: LON-d’n, not LUN-dun. The second о comes after the stress, so it is short and weak (like the a in sofa).
ТЕЛЕФО́Н – not like the English TEL-ih-fohn: the stress is on the last syllable: ti-li-FON (е without stress sounds like a short и). That is why we mark the stress.
🎯 Why does о sound like а?
English says «no» and the word stays the same: no ring, no pen. Russian says «нет» – and the word changes its end: нет кольца́, нет ру́чки. 🎯
English «Richard's pen» – Russian ру́чка Ри́чарда: the same ending as after нет! One ending, many jobs. 🖊️
Роди́тельный (genitive) comes from роди́тель – a parent: the old grammar books showed it with «сын отца́» – the son of the father. 👨👦
ничего́ is written with Г – but say «ничиво́», like сего́дня (День 22). 😄
Нет ху́да без добра́ = Every cloud has a silver lining.
🔬 Почему́ так · Why this way
- The ending must carry the meaning. In the tap quiz only the end of the word tells you if the thing is there or not – structured input, the learner must use the form to understand (VanPatten · processing instruction).
- Chunks first, the rule later. «Нет молока́» (День 16) and «без ша́пки» (День 27) were heard and said as whole blocks; today the pattern behind them gets a name – formulaic language (Wray 2002).
- A short rule after many meetings. Short explicit teaching works better than none – 49 studies – Norris · Ortega 2000.
- Noticing. The purple endings make the change visible – Schmidt 1990, noticing.
- Show or hide. The body feels «there is» and «there isn't» before the head knows the rule – Total Physical Response, Asher 1969; gestures with words – Macedonia · Knösche 2011.
- The action on the loud syllable. A hand beat on the stressed syllable helps adults pronounce new words. Studies with adults – Prieto's group, Barcelona.
- Remember first, then check. Retrieval practice – 50 classroom experiments – Agarwal · Nunes · Blunt 2021.
- 15 minutes a day. Short daily sessions beat one long one – Stoltzfus · Sukseemuang 2018.
- The proverb outside the core. Extras inside the core lower learning of the main thing (Mayer, seductive details); an idiom learned with its picture and story is remembered better (Boers 2001).
- The cat makes the mistakes. Nobody corrects the student. The student laughs and is never the one who is wrong.
- Our own method. Natasha's Language Aerobics – tested for many years with her students.
